Ordered some food to go. Went by some recommendations on Unilocal and ordered the beef with garlic lunch special. This dish is dominated by a brown sauce, coating slivers of bamboo shoots, black fungus, carrots, chives, sliced garlic, and shreds of beef, though you can order this dish with chicken or pork as well. I really enjoyed the little bit of crunch you get from the components of this dish The sauce itself is a tad sweet for me, and there was a puddle of dark brown sauce in my to go container. It was a very generic dark sweet soy sauce that you can commonly find in most American Chinese food. I did overall enjoy the dish. The lunch specials are only served with the white rice option and does not include a side. My total after tax was $ 7.60, a moderate value for the amount of food you get. I did have leftovers for dinner though, so yay for that!

King Flavor’s got some fairly inexpensive dishes, and everything we ordered had pretty good taste. — Beef in Garlic sauce(was nicely sweetened. Some might say it’s overly sweet but I liked it just fine). — Chicken/mushrooms(nice balance with ginger in it). — tofu/pork dish I gave all 3 dishes above a thumbs up. This joint also offers free, self-serve traditional rice soup/porridge. It’s not quite the white-ish congee you might be thinking of, but it’s healthier. I went on a Monday at noon, and it was sparse. By 12:30, every seat was taken.

The beef garlic is soooo good. The soups are a little pricey at $ 6, since I would have liked to add a soup to my meal but not at that price.

This place is a hidden gem. The taste of the food is truly authentic. The location is next to one of the Banana Leaf Restaurants(newer one). It is a bit hard to see at first until you get close because it is tucked away in the corner of the plaza. However, it was definitely good enough for me to go back! The interior of the store is a bit small. However, it seems popular enough to where most of the tables were filled. The only downside to this place is that they don’t have tables with lazy-susans. Thus, getting large amount of dishes is difficult to share with multiple people at times. Most of the tables are rectangular instead of round which hinder access to dishes. I’m not sure if the owner was the one that was serving us, but the service was great. We had everything brought to us pretty quickly. The food was definitely superb. I’m not sure if my friend just ordered all the right thing or if the place is just amazing, but it was worth it. IMPORTANT: they only take cash so be sure to have some on hand!

We almost missed this restaurant hidden away around the back corner near banana leaf. Very small with only a few tables this place is not good for large groups. King had a pretty extensive menu with items I don’t normally see such as lamb. We ordered the cumin lamb and eggplant. The lamb had an interesting taste and was pretty strong. Not my favorite but definitely a dish for someone who wants something different. The eggplant was some of the best I had! It was really fresh and seasoned with gooey sauce and minced meat. Service was also pretty good, polite and made sure our waters were filled. Price was a bit more expensive than most china town places but we had leftovers for at least one extra meal.

Locating this restaurant took a little time. Once you pass the main shopping center towards the front, then you head straight back till you see AA Supermarket. The restaurant is to the left of the supermarket in the corner. Be careful with back traffic that passes through there. I placed an order to go and did not have to wait long to pick it up. First, pork and leeks steamed dumplings. Though I was able to find a dipping sauce in my fridge, it would have been nice to have some from the restaurant. They are light and the filling is a nice combination. I waited for the soup to cool off, and it was worth it. The soup is really good and added ginger to it which helped me reduce some of muscle soreness from bike riding the day before. The melon was not sweet, and made a nice mix with the shrimp and onions. The broth did not taste high in salt and was still flavorful.

Hidden gem! King Flavor is tucked away in the back of a series of shopping centers. If you can find the Golden Foods Supermarket, go left, past Banana Leaf(which is the left end of that shopping center), and then go around that corner further back on the left on a perpendicular shopping strip and you will see King Flavor. It’s well worth locating! Easy parking. My kids devoured the pork and leeks steamed dumplings as well as the chicken fried rice. The eggplants in spicy garlic sauce and dried sauteed string beans were also a hit. We ordered a bowl of hot and sour soup, which was an enormous(and delicious) portion that probably could have fed 8. I enjoyed the Wuhan dry noodles, although I will definitely explore some of the other noodle dishes next time. The only dish that we didn’t so much care for was kung pao chicken, but there are so many other things that we want to try, so no big deal. The service is polite, and the food is cheap. Definitely planing a return visit. Heads-up: cash only!

Delicious delicate, homemade tasting sweet/tangy sauce on Eggplant with garlic. Enormous portion with chunks of garlic and chopped chives on top. Will dream of it. Dumplings were a major good deal, I’ve had better seasoned filling, but the dough and portion were awesome. Split these 2 between me and boyfriend– both of us came in super hungry, left w box of 1⁄3 of eggplant. Pay cash. Place was empty. Polite guy. Support this little gem– go. (Wanted to try the Singapore rice noodles, but it had pork. We’ll ask if they can make without next time.)

This restaurant is one of those gems you find tucked away in the far corners of Chinatown. It’s not located in a busting and busy shopping center, so no trouble finding parking here! Expect to be the only ones dining in because sometimes I’m the only customer during lunch and dinner times. They have a really great lunch special; cheap and delicious! I always order the shredded pork with bean curd. Some places leave the pork big and chunky BUT this place finely chops it. *Please remember to bring cash! The owner is very nice and friendly.

I was there with Asian Dining Group(ADG) members. When I arrived 9968 Bellaire, It was hard for me to find the restaurant. The location is near a Malaysian restaurant and Tai chi class room. It was super hard for non-Asians to find the restaurant, because of a lot of Chinese characters. You don’t have to use GPS, please just follow aroma of Chinese chicken. You will be there. That was very small restaurant. We had 8 – 10 plates. We were very diverse group. Latinos, Asians and Whites. We loved the foods there. The prices were very cheap. We shared the foods. I paid around $ 11.Popular restaurants in H-town must make not only Chinese but everyone happy. After this dinner, I was supposed to go to Walmart. I had to buy a lot of frozen Chinese foods at Walmart. This restaurant made me feel eating tons of Chinese food!

Went with a group last night, 8 of us foodies tried 10 dishes and 1 soup, cost us only $ 15 each including tax and tips! All dishes were so delicious, and healthy, we were so full. The following were voted as favorite dish by us foodies. Singapore fried vermicelli; — all voted and asked for 2nd order. Cumin Lamb; Shrimp with Yellow Chive; Shredded pork with Chive; Winter melon with dried shrimp soup; Fish and spinach dumpling; — the dumplings are so good, the wrap is so thin and soft besides the tasty fish and spinach. And well cooked with no broken wrap. It’s not easy to have soft and thin wrap, with content well cooked and wrap not broken. If you try different places, you will know what I am talking about. The place is tidy and clean too. Will sure go back. I would rate it 4.5 stars. Healthiness of food — 5 star(low fat, low sugar, low salt, good balance of veggie and meat, Value — quality/price ratio — 5 star; Quality– 4 – 5 Ambience — 4 Service — 4; The most special feature of this restaurant is that quite a few dishes are very unique, that you don’t get to see in other restaurants. Try it, worth every penny!

We stopped in here on a whim & I’m so glad we did. Great food and wonderful service. We will definitely be coming back! Try the Vermicelli Noodle stir fry, you won’t be disappointed. My boyfriend had the Kung Pao Beef and that too was awesome! So inexpensive and you get SO much food. This place is a must try!!!

Had food catered from there last week. The shrimp fried rice was excellent and fresh. The best I’ve ever had. Oh and I had it today too. :)

This unassuming restaurant is tucked in the back of the Golden Foods Shopping Center. We usually come here for dinner with family and order a large variety of home-style dishes(jia tsang tsai). The pig blood and intestines clay pot dish, spicy chicken and cilantro, mapo tofu, and shrimp and chives are all excellent! Huge portions and great prices. We almost always have leftovers(hooray!) and the parents hugely approve, which is not an easy task.

Came in with high expectations based on some of the Unilocaler reviews here… for the most part the place is on par with many of the chinese restaurants in the area in my opinion. They have what appears to be a consistent and loyal following with what appears to be a very traditional chinese menu of soup and noodles and dumplings. This place isn’t bad and I wouldn’t mind coming back to meet up with friends.

I was again craving good beef noodles soup. I got a little tired of the beef noodles from Xiong’s Café(it’s just if you eat it too often you get used to it and stop appreciating it) and wanted to find something better. This place shows hand-cut noodles and the pictures look good. For people who like non-spicy beef noodles soup this place isn’t bad. Honestly I did think the broth was good, but just not what I was looking for. The meat was kinda tough and not really flavorful. The chile oil was not spicy at all so if you think by adding chile oil you will get spicy beef noodles soup you would be wrong. The service is not bad. I got there at 1:30 pm so it wasn’t crowded. The lady there was actually really nice and tried her best to be attentive. I may go back to try their dumplings since I did think the noodle dough was good. So maybe the dumping dough will be good too. I will write an update after I try their dumplings. Don’t know when though.

Is is common with Chinese restaurants, the owner/chef changed recently. We walked in on a Saturday night, and it was quiet. Undaunted, we checked out the menu and ordered several dishes. The owner/chef was very polite and helpful. This is your typical self-service, homestyle, casual not-fast food café. Dishes: pork belly, vermicelli, and pickled cabbage soup, pork with bamboo, and pork with chives. We like our pork! The soup came out first, and it was quite tasty. The chef even refilled our liquid portion after about 15 mins(the soup is absorbed by the noodles). It has the requisite tartness, which was balanced by the fattiness of the pork belly. Gigantic portions. The pork with bamboo and the chives were both also delicious. We had plenty to eat, as well as good portion of leftovers for the next day. Food: 3 stars Service: 1 star Value: +1 star

My family and I eat in Chinatown often and this is one of the places we dine or take out frequently. It is very authentic Beijing style food. Our usual favorites are bamboo w shredded pork, shrimp w edammamme, green onion pancake and awesome shrimp fried rice. They also have good dumplings, beef noodle soup and many other dishes. They only take cash though like most Chinese places.

King Flavor, the story of King George I of Houston and the review site that helped the unsure foodie find his lunch, and in the process, become worthy of the title of Unilocal Elite, that was bestowed upon him rather unexpectedly. I hate the homemade noodles here. I hate the way they taste, That chewy, gluten squishiness, And the way they expand my waist. I hate the steamy, savory broth, Filled with chunks of tendon and beef. I hate the way it makes me feel, When it gets stuck between my teef. I hate how smug i feel, as the first one to review, Knowing that pride comes before the fall. But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate this place. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all. :) Now that that’s done with, all the noodle soups are pretty good, especially the lamb. You can get half beef half tendon as well. Dumplings are average, and this place is cash only. CLOSED on Wednesdays.
