Stopped in on Sunday, January 31 for a quick bite. Was underwhelmed with the quality of the food. Fruit salad was old so I traded it in for a bag of chips. The place needs a good scrubbing and an update to the menu.

Unfortunately, this place has gone downhill. It desperately needs a design update. Also, I got the grilled chicken and vegetable side. The steamed broccoli was dry and slightly over cooked. It was also a pretty tiny portion — not even a small fist size. The chicken was requested with the pesto on the side, and they couldn’t get that right. Was also very oily overall — not as healthy as I was expecting. Not going again.

Slow counter folks and a rather dreary interior made this a forgetful restaurant during a trip to Houston. This is the most disappointing Café Express I’ve visited, and that’s unfortunate because I usually love Café Express. My club sandwich was ok but not overwhelmingly tasty nor with the freshest ingredients. The pastry I had was good but on the verge of being stale. On the flip side, the employees who work here(even the slow counter person) are incredibly nice – almost to the point where I was embarrassed for having to ask them to re-do my club because they forgot a few ingredients.

I was looking to go to Panera Bread but it was just too far away. I needed to pick something up. I was not feeling too great so I wanted to get some soup. I had a turkey salad sandwich and a Southwest Turkey chili. The sandwich was okay. The soup was terrible. It was this salt-infused thing they charge close to 5 dollars for. Well, next time I will drive further to get what I want. I will not be back to this place.

John Gill is the master mind here. The regulars are proud to call him by name. He works the floor like a whirling dervish taking orders, greeting guests and giving every staff member constant encouragement. Whenever I go I don’t know what generous gesture he will provide. Once I asked him for veggies to go with the hummus. It was not on the menu, but he made them appear. Mostly he is a gentleman who makes you feel like you’ve come«home» to dine. You will not be disappointed.

I love Café Express and have always loved it since I was a kid. I used to live off their chicken tenders, fries, and my all time favorite, mac n cheese with grilled chicken(fancy for a kid’s meal, right?). This location is my least favorite. The employees were not very nice, and my order was messed up twice. I went to grab my order and pointed out that I had asked for no cheese — Two of the employees spoke and then the woman who took my order came and asked me if she took my order. I told her that yes, she was the one who took my order, and she took the plate and stormed off. I thanked her and apologized for any trouble. I also asked for pesto which was left out the 2nd time, and I was ignored at the counter for about 3 minutes before being approached. Again, I apologized for the inconvenience, and not once did they apologize or speak as if they weren’t pissed off. Café Express is an awesome place to get in and out for a quick lunch, and they have tons of great options. Just wish the employees were a bit friendlier.

Café Express saved me today! I had a confirmed meeting scheduled for 45 ppl at Metropolitan Multiservice Center, as did a group before me, and both of us found the doors locked. Even though the building had a flood, some rooms are available for use and we were even listed on their website as meeting there today. The test we needed to take is a State Mandated test for the camp we hold for individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. It was very hot today so we went across to Café Express, not even calling beforehand. The staff were so accommodating and helped us to put tables together without us even asking. The music was pretty loud, but nice music, however Kevin, the Manager turned it down for us so the group could hear us. I didn’t figure $ in our non profit oeganization’s budget for this, but offered the group a soft drink. Next year, I am going to book the back room and we are going to eat there. All were so helpful and polite, in a most stressful situation. I can’t thank them enough.

I was just introduced to café express, and I have to say the food is delicious. I went to this location because it was right under the art museum so it was convenient because I did not have to walk far. The service was awesome, the condiment bad really amazed me because they have a lot of stuff to choose from such as, pickles, breadsticks, and other types of food. I highly recommend this location. Delicious. Will be returning.

I always come here after my soccer practice(it ends at 5:30) to wait out the traffic and get some work done. Very friendly staff and always fresh food with lots of different choices on the menu. Free wifi is a plus because I need it for homework. Can sit here for hours.

This place was incredibly disappointing. The lady taking our order was a bit rude, and didn’t even ask if I wanted anything to drink, just automatically gave me a water cup. Our food did not come out the way it was supposed to(certain things on side). That would have been completely fine, of course, until I started scraping off all the stuff that wasn’t supposed to be on my burger in the first place and found to be what looked like pubic hair on the lettuce! We will definitely not be returning.

Today I ordered the petite sandwich combo which comes with salad and cup of soup. Chicken salad sandwich and turkey chili were perfect. I could have used less dressing on the Cesar salad because it got soggy. But flavor of dressing was good. The staff was friendly and food was ready by the time I filled my cup and went to table.

I no longer live in Texas, and when I visit I always eat at Café Express at least once. I often order the pesto chicken salad or the veggie chef salad which are fantastic. I have never ordered something that wasn’t delicious. From sandwiches to pasta and salads, I have never been disappointed. When I visit my sister and my nephew, Café Express is a healthy, quick, convenient, and kid friendly place. The food is fresh and they have many healthy options. Additionally, the prices are low and the portions are generous so I normally am able to take some of my meal home. I am always amazed that there aren’t any fast casual restaurants chains like café express in the places I’ve lived in the northeast. Reasonably priced, fresh, healthy, and an extensive menu… Please build one in Rhode Island!

Previously had a not so good experience at the Greenway location, and I told management I was willing to give it another try. Service was excellent, grilled chicken with ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes and green beans were very delicious. My husband is not a fan of Café Express, and he was impressed with their grilled chicken, and veggie entrée. He really enjoyed the complimentary fixings, which added more flavor to his entrée. Parking can be a hassle during peak hours, which is usually during lunch hours. The manager and cashier was very pleasant. Overall, good hot dishes, and nice service.

This is a review of my shrimp and avocado salad… the good: ingredients were pretty fresh. The bad: the shrimp were unseasoned, cold, and looked like they were from one of those grocery store shrimp cocktail rings. They had a dash of hot sauce on top in a half-hearted attempt to give them some flavor. The ugly: there were like 5 shrimp and two hunks of avocado. For fourteen bucks I left very hungry and came home and ate two slices of leftover pizza. I might try here again, but if you’re in the mood for a large, filling salad, head to Salata a few doors down.

I come here when I’m all out of other options and don’t feel like going to the grocery store. The food isn’t bad but I wouldn’t call it gourmet either. Presentation is nice but when you taste the food… it’s just okay. Today I had a Turkey Club with fruit and I honestly felt like I could have made the exact same thing at home. For what they charge, you’d expect it to be a little better. One thing I do love is their brownies. I usually stay away from sweets and carbs but I can’t resist their brownies! Overall, this place gets a «C+» in my book. It’s not bad, it’s not great, it’s just serves overpriced, average food.

Updating this review, as I’ve had some recent very good experiences here. Had breakfast this morning, and it was fab! Plus, the nice woman who took my order even brought it out to me, and brought me butter as well. Super nice. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and I heard the gentleman behind me saying the same things about his eggs. Fresh coffee was yummy too. I will most definitely return for breakfast!

The staff at this location was very helpful and friendly. I made a mistake while ordering and the manager promptly helped me to correct it with no issue. The food was good, but I have to say that the presentation was a bit lacking. I had the salmon and veggies(green beans with artichokes). It all seemed to be thrown on the plate with way too much oil. My friend’s chicken and veggies had a much better presentation. The food was fresh and tasty.

Café Express is notably one of the better places to take a large group or to meet people. Their food serves a basic common denominator, and people have a tendancy to load up on their pickled garlic at the salad station(they should just serve that as a side order — really — people fight over the pickled garlic). I think my biggest beef with this location is that they make what I call a salad-soup. They dredge their salads in so much salad dressing that the lettuce floats at the bottom — and I’ve asked for dressing on the side on several occasions. I have a three strike rule — if you can’t get an order right three separate visits, I don’t bother ordering it again. Personally — if you’re looking for something light, stick to the black bean soup or their vegetable tart. A good majority of my office mates love eating there though, and they love their pastas, burgers, and sandwiches. I’m not a heavy lunch eater, so those plates would be at least two meals for me.
