The Ribs and the loaded potato is the best I can always count them to have excellent food.

Not as good as it once was. New owners have changed what worked for years. Food is ok. Ribs are pretty good. Just not great food anymore. The service is great as always.

I had this place bookmarked for a long time after reading about it and always looking for good BBQ. I went there last night coming in from out of state for dinner. This part of town is an area I don’t frequent but since I was passing by I gave it a shot. For dinner I tried their ½ chicken plate with 2 sides. I chose the beans and upon the waitresses suggestion the potato salad. The chicken was very warm and reasonably moist with their BBQ sauce slathered over it. It was ok but not better than a 3. The sauce was basic in taste and nothing memorable. The beans were pinto beans and also rated as a 3. However the potato salad which was mayo based was a 4. Creamy and flavorful I enjoyed. It was a spot on recommendation. My service was good. My overall experience was a 3. I doubt I will return because of its location relative to where I live. If I did I would like to try another meat. My belief is that this place is only a 3 no matter what you order.

I am always on the hunt for BBQ and was in the area and picked this place based on the Unilocal reviews(plus not many BBQ options in the area), which based on my experience, are skewed high for this place. I ordered a two meat plate with brisket, ribs, potato salad and beans. Brisket: Flavor — 2⁄5. There was very little smoke flavor and almost no seasoning discernible. Given the color and flavor, I am guessing that it had been cooked prior to the day of my visit and what I was served had been reheated Tenderness /Texture — 2.5 /5. Cut easily with a fork, but was pretty dry, again, likely due to reheating. Ribs: The meat pulls easily off of the bone with a great flavor that is a little on the sweet side and the right amount of seasoning. No sauce required. I should have skipped the brisket all together and gotten just ribs. Their small size is the only thing holding them back from a 4. 3.5 /5 Sauce: The sauce was«non-traditional» and not one that I cared for. 2⁄5 Potato Salad: Generic out of the tub potato salad that is a little heavy on the mayonnaise for my liking. 2.5 /5 Beans: The beans seemed to be more of a ‘Ranch Style” with a flavored sauce that was ok. 3⁄5 Value: The price for my two meat plate was $ 11.95 and my soft drink was at or slightly above $ 2.00. Given the quantity(three slices of brisket and two ribs on the smaller side) and quality, the price is about $ 2 per plate too high. While $ 2+ for the price of a Coke is getting to be more and more common, it is ridiculous given the very low cost for ice, CO2 and syrup. 2.25 /5 Overall score: My score averages out to 2.5, but as Unilocal doesn’t do partial scores for reviews, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and round up to 3⁄5. I wouldn’t make a point to stop here in the future, but it would do in a pinch. I would use what I know now to make a different selection. Note: Several of my co-diners commented on sides that they really liked, which included corn nuggets, coleslaw and the fried okra.

What is there bad to say about this hidden pleasure nestled behind little Mexico? Nothing! Thank you Unilocal and reviewers for leading me on the righteous path of this establishment I would have NEVER found nor looked for in a hundred years. If you find yourself on I 10 coming or going around the Freeport/I10 East area, do a Unilocal«nearby» search and this will pop up. The directions/map are pretty much dead on. Drive past the construction barrels(if they still exist when you read this) and through what you will find as an extended part of a Hispanic culture neighborhood riddled with Fruiterias, Carnicersas y Mercados. The restaurant will be on your right as you come up to a light and may I suggested you not take that first parking spot you see on your right because getting out will be very hazardous and tricky when you leave, you’ve been warned. Instead, turn right around the corner and see if any of those are open, you will not have to fight the perils of backing into oncoming traffic as much as the other side. Does not look fancy from the outside nor does it look run down BUT once you step inside you will get a smacking in the face from the rich smokey aroma emitting from their smoker wherever it is. Now if you’ve made your way to the table that you pick without biting off someone’s arm you will find the menus on the table. A waitress will be with you shortly. Prices are VERY decent for what you get and the amount. I got the 3 meat plate which consisted of the brisket, sausage and ribs. The sides that I chose enhanced my wow factor and surprised me with the crisp and freshness of the onion rings. These aren’t the whataburger half dollar sized battered onion rights I’m used too, these things were a very good size. The potato salad, have you ever taken a fork/spoon of a potato salad and was turned off by the over powered flavor of mustard or it was too dry? Well say no more, they had it on spot today, just the right amount of wet ingredients to allow the bits to slide down the throat while allowing you to still enjoy the flavor without all of the mustard that some places use. The brisket was very tender, you don’t need a knife to cut it but it does not have the depth of smoke that a place like my now favorite Corkscrew bbq has, but it is almost close and still better priced. The black charr on the outside boosts the flavor for the inside and the bbq sauce… oh the bbq sauce… The bbq sauce, tangy zing with the sure lingering notes of brown sugar and the eye spectacle of pepper dotting the cup that I got. Not over powered with vinegar and just thick enough to allow it to hold onto your meat that is either poured on or dipped. This sauce would be great if sold in the store. The sausage was ok, was not bad, didn’t knock me off of my chair but still always good company with other bbq meats. The ribs, excellent, fall off of the bone, seasoned, smoked to a way that would make one want just a rack of those. Most of the smoke flavor resides in this little package and will have you coming back for more. It’s probably the best meat on the menu but don’t derive from your adventure to try the others, they’re worth it. Service was good, not overwhelming and lots of sincere. Interior, lots of good country music, down low people coming in just to have some great bbq and a peaceful time. I noticed lots of elderly people here which adds to your backdrop sense that this place is approved by all ages easily. I mean come on, when was the last time you saw a clientell of 60% elderly in a bbq place? Booked marked and vowed to return again.

Barbecue sauce was really good so I suggest asking for a side of the sauce with your meal. I’m a huge fan potato salad and this one for sure was one of the best. Only gripe I have is that I wish there was an option for moist brisket. Overall the atmosphere has that 100% authentic Texan feel with deer heads and country music on the background. Service was excellent. Bring your friends, order Togo, either way you’ll be in good hands

The food is great and rich with flavor. The brisket and ribs are what you come for but the service is what makes you come back. When you walk in, you will be greeted with outdated and a basic dinning setting. Feet not, you’ll keep coming back for the food and hospitality. There is only one item I believe that needs to be adjusted and that’s the chicken tenders. It’s what my kid gets every time we come and every single time they have very little chicken in them. It’s more breading than anything. To me the bbq sauce is good but would be great if it had a little kick to it. Other than those two items, I find the brisket to be smoked and seasoned superbly, as with the ribs. The bird falls off the bone and taste great. All the sides should be tried at least once. It’s a local bbq place that can keep up with the best of them.

Came In for lunch with some friends. You get a lot of BBQ for the money. I had the 3 meat plate with brisket, links and pork ribs. The brisket was pretty salty. All said, not bad, but will keep searching for that perfect Houston BBQ.

Good food, good service and plenty of parking in the back. The brisket, ribs, and links are the bomb! The onion rings are good too. I eat in and get to go orders here quite frequently!

This place has the best BBQ in town! I recommend you go on Wednesdays when they have all you can eat ribs after 4:30 pm. The service is pretty good and you leave feeling satisfied! They recently added more desserts on their menu as well and they’re delicious. Overall, I’ve been a couple of times and I’ve had great experiences. The street that it’s on is currently under construction so it’s a bit annoying, nonetheless there is easy access to the parking lot.

This was some of the best«homemade» barbecue I’ve had in awhile. I was worried about the neighbor hood at first but the food was worth it! I will be back for sure! P. S. All you can eat ribs on Wednesday nights.

I’ve been coming to place for years, and it’s had it’s ups and downs. About 3 years they had a change in ownership and the food had really gone down hill. The brisket had suffered, higher temperature and shorter cook time resulted in a tougher beef and no smoke ring. So for a while I stopped coming back. Because I’m a Texan, I just judge a bbq establishment based on its brisket, and good news the brisket is back to its smokey goodness! Underneath the bark(charred outer parts, most of the seasoning and flavor is located here) is a nice and bright pink smoke ring that indicates that the meat is cooked low and slow, nice and tender, just as it’s supposed to be. So how should you get this smokey, beefy goodness? In a sandwich sliced or chopped(I like chopped more, more of the bark ends up here). You can get in plate with sides. Chopped on a potato and it’ll be fine. Parking can be a bit of a hassle, and togo window are open and closed on different days. Overall it’s a pretty darn good bbq joint. I’ll be coming back again soon.

First visit to Brother in Law’s, it is a house turned into a restaurant, near the corner of Woodforest and Freeport in a large neighborhood. Parking is directly in front where your car is facing the front of the business. Refereshing, since it seems parking spaces near the front of many restaurants are usually always taken and you have to park a good dstance from the door. Inside is a lot tables and a healthy amount of customers the day I visited(around 12:30) I ordered rib plates take out. I got the impression the waitresses are hard working gals that know what their doing. The ribs were tender and the green beans had good favor with some meat added. I am a real fan of thick, oniony, sweet bbg sauce and it seems that it is not the go to for BBQ places in Houston. Brothers is no exception. I really don’t know who ‘is’ providing ‘thick’ sauce in the world of BBQ, but I sure would love to experience that: D The dining room has a good olé Texas Café feel, in the best way :) Keep it comin’ Brother in Laws!

Good food, good price, and plenty of food for your belly. I’ve been eating here for years. I especially like the hamburgers, baked potato, tea, deserts… well, everything I’ve eaten so far there.

WE thoroughly enjoyed a chopped beef sandwich, a loaded baked potato that could have fed 3 people by itself, and a grilled chicken sandwich, and some of the best fried okra we’ve ever eaten. The only item that wasn’t 5 stars was a chicken fried steak, the crust was too thick and crunchy for us, we took a star away for that. Our son loves this place because of the quality of the food and reasonable prices, now we know why.

I’ve been to bbq joints all over the country, but this one, near my boyfriend’s hometown, is the best ever. I’m from Minneapolis and was pretty much in shock at the prices here — it’s so CHEAP! I’d pay twice as much for something not quite as good back home. I loved the atmosphere — felt right at home at our picnic table. I don’t recall the sides being much to write home about, only because the meat was so good it made me forget what I even ordered. Brocolli I think? And mac & cheese??? *shrug* It’s been over a year now, and I still compare any bbq I have to this place. And Brother-In-Law’s always wins. Pretty excited to come for a visit later this year — it will be hard not to come here every day!
