I was in search of a Chinese dress for a party… found one here for $ 30 plus tax. The storekeeper was very helpful with sugestions. She also took one look at me & picked the right size. Please keep in mind that Chinese sizes don’t correlate with US sizes, so don’t get freaked out or hung up on the size. I’m a size 8 or 10 and I wear an XXL in Chinese sizes! They have a nice selection of short/long dresses, blouses — in various styles — halter, sleeveless, short & long sleeves.

The Lunar New Year was approaching and looking for inexpensive red envelopes and cards became a challenge. The prices were hiked up and I refuse to pay more than I need to for these little, festively decorated envelopes that I will inevitable have to fill with money. I thank my lucky stars again for just browsing around this area between King and Hotel St. I searched at CVS, Don Quijote, and even Food Pantry. They did offer a small variety of cards, but even at $ 2 a card was still considered expensive. At Xin Xin, the variety of Chinese New Year celebrated knick kancks were displayed outside the store. It was a nice change to see dollar sings of $ 1 for the packaged red envelopes with plenty of choices to debate over which to purchase. Just for $ 1.50 for the cards and no tax to pay is more than a bargain. If you’re away from your family because they’re all on the mainland, it’s very important to fill the red envelopes with more $$ than spending it on the envelopes, cards and postage to send them out. So smart savings is key during this time of year.
