The curry sauce didn’t look to great the afternoon I stopped in for a quick lunch. It was seasoned well and there were bits of veg in it, but it was clear that the curry was thickened with something. It was almost as if it was congealed. Had the mochiko chicken and rice curry, and the croquette and rice curry. The mochiko chicken was decent, but I’ve definitely seen it done better elsewhere. The croquettes were done quite nicely. It was obvious that I was served the bottom of the rice pot. Not a huge gripe, but it just looks weird. Also ordered a coconut bubble tea. Really sweet, not there greatest I’ve ever tasted. The one thing about this restaurant is you get what you pay for. The quality might not be the best, but they do serve their plates with a lot of food.

I want to make this clear as this is for the last time I came here. I can only compare what I saw to watching a horror movie. After flying back home, my wife and I were tired and didn’t want to cook dinner so we were thinking about where to get some food. We settled for Sumo Ramen as we like or shall I say used to like the taste of the food we had before.(I am cringing as I am typing this) We did a phone order and I went down to pick up our food and after I paid for the food I saw one of the cooks(from the register you have a clear shot of the kitchen) start picking his nose while the other cook sneezed over the food. I instantly felt grossed out. The guy that was waiting to order behind me actually left as I’m sure he saw the same thing. I think these people need a lesson on personal hygiene as that was totally gross.

I ordered the spicy garlic shrimp. This outsider was shocked to find that it comes with legs still attached. I know you can eat them but it just doesn’t seem appetizing and it was pretty unexpected. It’s outdoor eating in a small shopping center. If you want something quick, this might be for you. It had good reviews so we tried it but I wish we would have experienced lunch elsewhere.

rip off portions of food for a outrageous price. This place needs to go out of business. Don’t come here even if it was your last choice. Ordered a unagi plate for $ 12 that came with a quarter piece of frozen unagi and rice. Places like this make eating out such a burden. Go to the won ton place in the same area for a better eat at a better deal.

So we had an armpit hair in our tempura and saw the chefs laughing about it. I got a bubble tea and it was shaken not blended. The milk was really bad or something in it. Do not come here. I paid $ 20.00 for cold udon, gioza and that bubble tea. Horrible. Pick anywhere else around besides this shack.

Despite it being a ramen place this has one of the best Japanese style currys on the island. They also have very good prices I always come here and enjoy their delicious food and encourage everyone to go here

Normally when I’m jonesing for Japanese curry… I always go to Curry House. But sometimes we have to expand your horizons and try new places. Sumo Ramen & Curry is not a new place for me, as I’ve eaten here just a few times… but I gotta say, it’s been a very long time, since I last ate here… Sumo Ramen & Curry is located at the Market City Shopping Center. The little restaurant is located on the backside area facing Kamuki High School. The backside area businesses also have Ben Franklin Crafts, L&L Drive Inn, Fujioka Wines, & Kaimuki Self Storage. Each time I’ve come here, I mostly do take out(as I haven’t had a chance to dine inside yet). What can I say about this place? Well, the food is good… but not outstanding. I noticed the curry they serve here, does not have a lot of «shredded» beef inside, like Curry House. Also the color of their curry is much lighter than Curry House. For tonight’s dinner, I ordered the Spicy Chicken Wings with curry. When I was placing my order, I asked the girl if they had brown rice? Sure enough, this place serves brown rice, and the best thing about that is, they didn’t charge me extra!(NICE!) When I got my plate… another thing I liked was that they separated the curry from the rice, & my entrée. When I got to gubbin’, I was hoping my Spicy Chicken Wings was gonna be crispy, but when I got home to eat it, as I opened up the Styrofoam box to eat my chicken, the wings were soggy. :( Now I’m not sure if it was suppose to be like that, or since they serve up the food hot, when I got home(I live close by), the steam in the box made the chicken soggy? Although the wings were soggy, the taste of the wings was pretty good, & spicy. The curry? It was just okay for me… but I think I like Curry House curry waaaaaaaaaay better. Besides curry, they place serves ramen, fried rice, fried noodles, & Udon.

This is the place I head to when I want a ramen set for less than $ 15. It is not fancy or one of those ramen bistros, but Sumo Ramen & Curry offers cheap, hot, and filling food. Usually, I get food from here when I work those late nights and I want a steaming bowl of noodles after sitting in my cubicle, wrapped in my warm jacket and wearing my Uggs to keep my feet warm. I normally phone in my order when I leave work so that my order is ready for pick up as soon as I get there. I usually order the mochiko chicken ramen set, which includes shoyu ramen, 4 pieces of gyoza, and fried rice. The ramen comes with bean sprouts and char siu. The broth is light and salty. The gyoza is the standard type of gyoza you can find at any ramen shop(cooked in the usual style with one side being pan-fried). The fried rice is surprisingly light. It could use a little more seasoning, but it is not too oily with a good ratio of rice to the other components(which include pieces of char siu, fish cake, peas, carrots, and egg). There is so much food with this ramen set that I always have leftovers. As it is take out, they package the various items separately in four containers. There is one container with the fried rice and mochiko chicken, another container has the gyoza with ponzu sauce, the third container has the ramen noodles and toppings, and the last container has the broth.

This place is on the backside of Market City facing Kaimuki High School. I’ve been here a few times and the food is decent. Obviously, the ramen here isn’t going to be as good as an authentic ramen joint. Their ramen broth has no flavor. It’s basically just salt and water. I’ve tried their ramen once. However, their curry is pretty good. It’s on par with the Curry House. I usually get the oyster fry curry and the hubby gets the mochiko chicken curry. He really likes it. The curry is thick and not watered down. It sort of has a creamy consistency and is full of flavor. The oysters are a nice size and fried perfectly. When I bit into it, I could just taste the oyster juice ooze into my mouth. For me, that’s a good thing because I hate dry oysters. Their portion sizes are also decent. I usually get a small and I get full off of it. Oh, they also serve the green river drink here. They get extra points for that.

Having kids and eating out is more difficult than dining alone. To find a place that kids love and can eat, well that’s awesome. This is one of my kids(3) favorite place to eat, believe it or not. The space seems cramp but you can seat a party of 6. We like it and food is reasonable and tastes good.(no sore stomach after eating here– so far!)

Am I a huge fan of their mochiko chicken and curry udon and many different types of fried rice? Or am I huge fan of their great prices? Probably a little bit of both. Tucked away on the less frequented side of Market City, Sumo Ramen looks modest from the outside and leads you down a long walkway past their kitchen to their dining area in the back of the restaurant. Service isn’t the most enthusiastic, but you will get a «welcome» and a «thank you» as you come and go. One look at the menu and you’ll see that almost everything is under $ 10, which frankly is the best part. A full plate, a full size ramen/udon, all run for about eight or nine bucks. I had some of the chicken katsu and mochiko chicken and both were fried the right amount to still be crisp but not burnt. Portions are generous and food comes fast. They also do take out and honestly that’s probably a better idea. It’s not going to be gourmet cuisine, but it is a great place to stop for a quick and cheap bite!

Good solid food at a decent price served quickly. My family of four still orders enough food for six peeps, but that’s how we roll. As my last chewable meal before I start my three day juice cleanse… this was satisfying. Ordered the calamari curry combo. Small bowl of six calamari rings, lightly breaded, perfectly seasoned sitting on steamed white sticky rice, with a side(looks like a ladel) of Japanese curry. Yummy! so good(and so small) I didn’t share. Small bowl of shio ramen with a small slice of chashu… didn’t even touch it. Took it home for hubby’s lunch tomorrow. And four pieces of gyoza(gyoza was small, but tasty). Add a little gyoza sauce, chili oil, and schimi togarashi… winners! Kiddos got the shrimp tempura cold soba and seafood crispy noodle. Everything was tasty…(**but I am now hit by a carbohydrate-coma… so, let’s finish this review before a kanak attack hits me). Shrimp tempura cold soba came with three shrimp tempuras and a good portion of green cold soba noodles. Delish! «Seafood» crispy noodle was also tasty(gravy was thick and yummy) but the seafood was lacking. There were three small pieces of shrimp, two itty bitty overcooked scallops, and a piece of squid. The most pronounced topping was cabbage, dotted with snap peas and sliced carrots. Hubby got Sumo ramen. Big bowl of ramen topped with half hard boiled egg, four pieces of chicken katsu, seaweed, corn… he asked for no veggies because I don’t like bean sprouts or cabbage in my ramen… Now… isn’t that love? Also got a side order of mochiko chicken… just to try, since I heard good things about it. I am not a fan. I’ve had better mochiko. This was too sweet for me, oily and almost«sticky»… I don’t know how else to explain it. Forgot to mention, on the way out I bought two of the new advertised fruit teas… one lychee and one guava. Other than the employee writing the flavor on the teas… neither I nor my better half could tell which tea was which flavor. This is made with jasmine tea, so it is very floral. We still like it, but we’re tea drinkers.. just don’t be surprised if all you taste is Jasmine.

Daiichi Ramen is Better! You get more for your money. Portions are small here. Also, you have to walk all the way around the parking lot to get to public restroom which is filthy. I have 2 toddlers this place should have a more accessible bathroom. The katsu curry plate was small. I will admit that they have the best gyoza i have ever tasted.

The place is okay. Nothing spectacular. Good place for fast and cheap eats. I usually order the Seafood Fried Rice Omelet and side Spam Katsu… that’s probably my favorite out of everything.

This is a guaranteed place to fix any cravings. The menu selection makes it hard to make a decision. The combos are the best option so at leasr you have a little of everything. The #1 fave is the mochiko chix, peeled& cleaned garlic shrimp and the curry udon noodles. The gyoza, I can do without as it lacks flavor, but some hot sauce dip always benefits and makes it more appetizing. The convenience in location helps as there is other things nearby like the Foodland grocery store for your shopping pleasure. I’ll be back soon, of course!!!

This shop is tucked away at the bottom of Market City Shopping Center. What makes this ramen shop better than others is that they have a WIDE variety of food and combos that you can choose from. They offer different types of ramen, udon, curry, fried rice, and fried noodles. I really like getting their combos because you can get a taste of everything and they’re generous with their portions. I’m usually torn between two combos, the seafood ramen and the mochikio chicken curry combo. The seafood ramen combo consists of seafood ramen, fried rice, and 4 pieces of gyoza. The seafood ramen broth has a very strong garlic taste and it is filled to the rim with noodles, vegetables, and shrimp. The other combo I like is the mochiko chicken curry combo. This consists of shoyu ramen, mochiko chicken curry, and 4 pieces of gyoza. I like how the mochiko chicken isn’t dry and the curry tastes sweet. Service here is great. The workers usually do a great job with taking your order right away and refilling your glass. One thing I didn’t like is how squished it can be depending on where you’re sitting. Overall, this place is has a great selection of food and is a great catch-all for people in your party who may be indecisive. The combos are ~$ 10 which is not to bad to have a variety of everything.

So I will be straight up that when I go here I never get ramen. It’s not that I don’t enjoy a good bowl of noodles & broth… But I am here to rave about the katsu curry! I have only gotten take out here; seating looks limited as it is a small location & they’re great about call ahead orders. I switch it up between pork and chicken in order to not get bored; they’re both cooked to perfection with juicy meat inside and a super crispy panko shell. I actually really like the cook on their pork, I have never gotten it over cooked here which is a pleasant surprise. So this katsu meat is laid on top of a bed of steamed rice. There is so much meat for the price of a plate lunch; it’s the best deal I’ve ever seen for katsu curry. Anyways on to the curry! The curry is thick, full of flavor and nice & creamy. I love that it’s not watery or oily but is truly what I imagine when I am craving curry. I almost always use my hands to dunk my katsu in … Drooling as I type. Yum! I also appreciate they keep the curry on the side(don’t know about eating in) because I hate when the rice sops up all the curry before I finish my katsu. I love this with an ice cold beer on my couch :) check this place out!!!

Came here spontaneously with my girlfriend on a quest to seek something with«rice». Upon arriving, I was surprised at how big this place is. It can actually seat a pretty good amount of people. The food was meh. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse. Per other Unilocal reviews, I tried the mochiko chicken(I got the mochiko chicken curry combo. Comes with mini ramen, gyoza, and mochiko chicken curry). The mochiko chicken was pretty good. Everything else was pretty standard and nothing really stood out. The price definitely makes it worth going back to. Almost everything(including the combos) are under $ 10 so it’s definitely a good place to go to get that curry/ramen fix on the cheap
