I noticed Sugar Rush while driving in Kalihi one day and decided to check it out. From the outside, it looks more like a factory than a bakery(or should I say confectionery?) with its heavily tinted windows and peeling paint. At Sugar Rush, the emphasis is on the word SUGAR. All the desserts are super sweet and super rich. This is not the place if you’re on a diet(or trying to have regular levels of insulin). However, for those of us who don’t mind the occasional sweet, They offer a variety of cleverly named, pint-sized desserts that definitely satisfy the sweet tooth. The colors are vivid and you can tell that a lot of detail goes into these creations. Each mini-dessert will run you about $ 1.35 each and they usually have about 8 or 9 to choose from at a time. The menu changes weekly but favorites like the Scarlett O’Hara(red velvet cupcake) and Goldfingers(chocolate dipped flavored cheesecake on a stick) are always available. The desserts are a little too sweet for me(which explains why they are in amuse bouche portions) but all in all a good place to get sweets for the gf.

Bright colors and gold, lots of different flavors, and tiny details were liked by many people at my wedding. I am not into artificial colors and flavors, I don’t like yellow gold. All I wanted was a plain, white, cream-frosting(REAL cream.) 2 or 3 tiered wedding cake, with fresh flowers conservatively placed here and there. Frances told the person who INFORMED my husband and I that they were buying/choosing our wedding cake, «Don’t worry, the top will be white and creamy». It was artificial, ARTIFICIAL! I so wanted a Satura cake. we were so close to ordering it — even picked which one! it was on the smaller side and we were going to just serve sheet cake to the guests. What’s better at a wedding than delicious, light, white, cream-frosted cake?! A Happy Anniversary card sent to us through the person who ordered these desserts was just salt in the wound. It is apparent that Frances doesn’t even know my(the bride’s) name. Sugar Rush desserts are OK. Just exactly what I didn’t want for my wedding. They’d be perfect for a circus-themed party.
