I came here to eat inside this ‘hole in the wall’ with my co-worker due to his recommendation… seating for perhaps 10 people, some two seat tables with some larger…(there were a couple of seats to sit while you wait for take out orders)…clientele ranged from homeless appearance types(as there was the Kalihi-Palama Medical Clinic a few doors DH of the place) to regular downtown workers types(Tamashiro Market would be DH/mauka side of this place one block away)… the pics of the foods on the walls made it look that everything were tasty, and my friend pointed to the the newspaper write up review(that’s posted at the order desk) of a few years ago(Mar 2007) from the Honolulu Star-Bulletin by Nadine Kam(now you KNOW, she is a CRITIC) that ‘there was life after Masa’s…, and that this was the place.” She gave the place 4 stars out of 4 stars for FOOD… I ordered the $ 6.99 roast pork plate with gravy… choose the brown rice option with gravy over the rice and entrée. It came with two scoops of that rice, and one scoop of mac salad(or toss salad if you wanted).which had ‘taste’(all time place for mac salad for taste belongs to Zippys — hands down), but I felt should have been served ‘colder’ temperature wise(well, maybe a little cooler than what I was served). Like the other reviewer, yes, I was disappointed as it was either too healthy in taste(needed more seasonings), or the cook forgot to add the salt… it was a little on the bland side, even with the gravy(which looked too stiff, as if there was too much cornstarch added – the gravy appeared to stand up at attention). My co-worker had the stir fried meat with vegetables, which was on the healthy side, as it was NOT oily, but soaked in its own juices with lots of zucchini and fresh mushrooms… he also ordered the french fries, which tasted good… still, a little more salt on that fries and it would have been good to go(my favorite place for french fries is Richie’s Drive-Inn down the street, hands down the best tasting). I’d come back to R&P’s, if they SEASONED it more, as they have a good selection, nice friendly service, and the cashier will bring out your order in a styrofoam take-out plate to your table… there was water available in the large cooler in the dining area… they close at 1:30pm…

#30/365 Came here because it was recommended by my teacher for some good cheap eats. The place is a little hole in the whole in a building with 2 other shops. Theres not much parking besides street parking but I think you can also park in the back of the building as there are some stalls. The prices are pretty cheap. I got the vegetable omelet for $ 3.99, it says it also comes with white or brown rice, toast or garlic potatoes so I got brown rice and toast but my total was $ 5.24. I was like hmmm… isnt it supposed to only be $ 4 something. So when I picked up my order I asked her and she said the toast was extra! and I was like whaaa I thought it came with it… They seriously need to fix their wording because its confusing. Whatevers, still pretty cheap for the amount of food. However, thats just what it is, quantity. The flavor, or lack of, my «omelet» which was more like a scramble was indeed flavorless. It needed some major salt and pepper, seasonings, anything! I liked that the veggies were fresh so i’ll give them that and the workers/owners were pretty nice. My friend also got their loco moco and he said it wasnt really good. Overall, 1.5; yeah cheap food and the give a lot but needs a lot more flavor.
