If you want day old, dry, microwaved gyoza, come here. For a place that advertises itself as ‘award winning gyoza and ramen’, this place is a joke. Award winning where — Syria? There are better vendors in Shirokiya, and better ramen a few blocks away. Santoka is about a 10 minute walk, and they do ramen proper. Not this garbage in a red bowl.

Totally delish gyoza, wish I had gotten more! I had both the garlic shrimp gyoza and the regular. The garlic shrimp was quite good, but the regular gyoza was amazing. I order gyoza at every restaurant that has it and make it as home as well and nothing beats the gyoza here.

Menya Ifu Do Do is located on the 3rd floor inside Shirokiya at Ala Moana shopping center. It is one of several ramen places in Shirokiya and I think Ifu Do Do stands out the most of all. I ordered white pork soup with takana. The ramen was not bad at all, it is nothing special but the Chashu is very tender and tasty. I liked the soup too. Noodle was rather on the thick side and maybe just a tiny bit overcooked. Gyoza was dissappointing. They did not come out pan fried like in the picture, but rather steamed. It was soggy and tasteless. Next time I will try one of their spicy ramen!

Stopped by Shirokiya for lunch, not knowing what to expect because I had thought Shirokiya itself was a restaurant. Definitely a pleasant surprise to find a food court instead! I can never really say no to ramen, so I decided to try Menya. I ordered the spicy ramen and it was pretty good. It came with two slices of pork, which were a bit chewy, bean sprouts, and a boiled egg. The noodles were a bit overcooked, but not too bad. Overall, an average bowl of ramen but satisfactory. The ramen at Ramen Nakamura was definitely better.

Having been to Japan more than 100 times in my life and eating lots of Ramen on every trip I can only share with you this. This is the best Ramen I’ve ever had.

This was my first time eating here. Inside Shirokiya there are just so many options for food, it’s hard to decide. I always wanted to try this place but I normally get a ben to or something pre-made. There are many different choices for ramen. I ate the shrimp ramen. And although it was very tasty, the cost is pretty high… $ 14. Also ordered the chicken dumplings and it was one of the best I’ve had. Really, it’s the cheap beer at Shirokiya that brings them out in droves. You find every class of person and every age. Don’t expect a sophisticated clientele… it’s a Japanese Beer Garden! Service = 4(these places are all walk up kiosk type) Food = 3(not bad, but can be pricey depending on what you eat) Atmosphere=3(everything from college students to Japanese tourists) Value = 4(you can’t beat $ 1 beers!)

Raaaaaaaaaaaamen of chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaampionnnnnnns. They even have this epic music playing to confirm their winning-ness. It feels like you’re on iron chef, and YOU are the champion for choosing their delicious bowls of tasty food. I’ve had a number of their broths, but the only one that I keep coming back for is the BLACKGARLICRAMEN. I luh my garlic(mo garlick mo betta) and this broth is serious. It’s thick, unctuous(a word I’ve never used in my life so you know this is for real), and oh so tasty. Black flecks of garlic floating around, a cloudy delicious bowl of heavenly broth. Truth be told their noodles are not the best(chewy, but I’ve had better) and their meat definitely tastes frozen(thin slices of char siu, not delicious chunks of meat like other places). But honestly their broth is my favorite so far. Their prices have gone up over the years though, so nearly all bowls are above $ 10 and will run you up to $ 15 for their tempura shrimp one.

I’m officially adding 1 star for their #23 shrimp tonkatsu ramen. It’s amaaaaaazing. Buttery, garlicky, shrimpy goodness!!! It’s like all the wondrous things we love about shrimp truck garlic shrimp in soupy noodle form… For real. In heaven. Moi. it’s also less oily than the recommended spicy special which I love. Did I gobble up the entire bowl including soup PLUS some takoyaki PLUS some dumplings? I blame the broth! :)

Still stand by my prior assessment: the broth is amazing! I had the miso ramen and I think they’ve reduced the oil/lard content since the last time I was here(July 2013), which is a bummer for me but might be a good sign for those who have held off thinking the broth might be too oily for them. Awesome noodles too.

It’s hard to make up a rating for this place. 2 stars for the price compared to what you get in regards to meat and extras. But the broth gets 10 stars. I mean, what the freak. Their broth is the most amazing broth ever. I wonder if it’s like the soup guy in Seinfeld, where their soup was amazing because they never washed their pot for 20 years. Regardless, it’s darn good if you’re willing to pay $ 10+ for it and still be hungry when you’re done. We also got the Shrimp Gyoza, which was also overpriced and it had a dried shrimp paste. It was tasty but far from being hot. It’s located inside Shirokiya on the top floor, with signs all over saying they were voted the best broth.

Let see. Overpriced. Barely ok attitude from the guy that cooks the ramen. $ 1.50 extra if you ask for a spicy ramen(when it already says it’s supposed to be spicy). Broth too salty… And this was for the shrimp infused tonkotsu. Now for the Menya special, noodles overcooked, broth was ok not bad. Char siu was thin and passable. Gyoza is not very good. Small and not that fresh tasting. This is the second time I went there. No more for me. I tell you people, this is not great Fukuoka style ramen. Just average at best. BTW: the Fukuoka Style ramen is not eggy. It is a thin noodle — very distinctive. It’s usually firm and not soggy. Finally, it is NOT the typical Sun noodle.(Nothing wrong with Sun noodle, but it is not Fukuoka style).

I was super stoked to finally eat at Shirokiya after missing out on my last trip to Hawaii. Thankfully, I arrived just as the little shops/eateries were about to close. Menya Ifu Do Do had the most appealing advertisement for ramen(which was what I was craving), so I decided to go for their most popular item on the menu, the«Number 3.» I’m not going to go into verse on how happy I was finally fulfill my craving for ramen, but overall it definitely hit the spot! The Number 3 features perfectly cooked noodles in a spicy/creamy tonkatsu broth with veggies and char siu. The portion was just right for me(you be the judge of how much I can eat haha)! Overall, the ramen was just like this review, good and straight-to-the-point in hitting the spot. ;]

Our first honeymoon meal was not as satisfying… Yup, Shirokiya food court was our first stop after landing in Honolulu. It’s funny to think we rented a car and drove straight to the mall. I’m a fan of black garlic ramen, but the one I ordered #16 Black Garlic Flavor Pork Base Ramen Soup couldn’t compare. First of all, it didn’t look like the display case ramen and the broth was more watery than rich. It didn’t taste bad, but I’ve had better. I’d probably try a different ramen shop next time I’m at the food court. It wasn’t worth it for the double digit price.

I have heard of this ramen shop, but I never knew where it was until I saw the Unilocal reviews and tips that told me to look in Shirokiya. I had the black garlic ramen with the basic garnishing of char siu and bean sprouts(I think it was like #13). I am a gyoza addict, so I always get gyoza when I get ramen. I got the 5-piece gyoza with green onion. My ramen noodles were great — perfect, chewy texture and the perfect portion size(enough to be filling without feeling bloated or stuffed). The char siu was one of my favorite parts — thinly sliced and not overly fatty. The thing I did not like was the broth — it was an oily broth that was a milky color. I could see the little black flecks that I could only assume was black pepper. The broth was essentially flavorless. I could not taste any garlic. I tried my husband’s broth, which is the regular red broth — that had more flavor with a slight kick of spice in it. The gyoza was the typical gyoza you would find at a ramen shop. Nothing different in flavor or filings. I do wish that the gyoza was a bit more hot — it came to me lukewarm(almost cold). Also, since I ordered it with the green onion, it came with a LOT of green onion. Remember, if you come during the meal time rushes, it may be difficult to get a table in Yataimura. Overall, I think the ramen is excellent and I will definitely be coming back, just getting the red broth.

I love ramen places. I could eat ramen for days. First off this place has garlic shrimp gyoza that’s very tasty. Beware the garlic is a bit strong. The gyoza had good size chunks of shrimp. I tried the Akaton odeon tamago nose ramen. It wasn’t bad but it was ok. The two pieces of char siu were thin and tasteless The broth was ok but a bit more on the oily side. The noodles were cooked perfectly, well to my liking at least. They were chewy and not soggy. Overall the workers were friendly and the food was good. However, I like more flavorful and not oily broths. They have a good variety of broths to choose from so maybe I’ll try a different one next time. ^^*

Why did I not follow my instincts and eat here earlier?! My God, the ramen broth and perfectly cooked ramen was delicious!!! The cha siu servings was a bit small. Get #3: I’m a fan and definitely coming back for more.

Tried this place on recommendation of a fellow Unilocaler, Emy R. Good choice! ATMOSPHERE: Take-out counter inside Shirokiya. The signage is a bit overwhelming with pictures that look similar to each other but the staff was helpful in answering my questions. FOOD: #3 Akaton Oden Tamago Nose — What the? It’s noodles in a spicy/creamy broth(like a tan tan) and full of flavor but not spicy like burn your tastebuds off. Topped with char siu, a medium-boiled egg and bean sprouts. I opted for more bean sprouts but it didn’t seem like much more. Noodles were cooked perfect and portion size was good. SERVICE: Very welcoming and helpful. OVERALL: A bit pricey but in return got a delicious bowl of ramen, so it’s worth it. TIP: The menu board is split into two sections, one side is for ramen done in the red-orange spicy broth, the other done in the cloudy pork broth. It’s pretty much choose your broth and your toppings.

Living in the Bay Area for 9 years, I’ve gotten to experience many different ramen shops, from all over the mainland. And I think I’ve gotten a pretty good understanding of my ‘perfect’ bowl of ramen. Unfortunately, moving back to Hawaii & trying all of the ramen shops here, mostly all of them give it that ‘local’ Hawaii style twist, which I do not prefer. Fortunately, I’ve found a place that actually makes it authentic, and I can officially say that… This is my favorite ramen shop in Hawaii! It has everything I long for in ramen… from hakata style thin noodles, rich tonkotsu broth, tender thin pork, option for egg(unfortunately, not gooey), and option to put your own garlic. Located in Shirokiya, you can’t miss it, because they are the only ramen shop there that plays the irritating, yet, catchy music! Yes, it is on the expensive side, but soooo worth it! The one with the black garlic is soooo flavorful too! Craving a bowl as I write this!

$ 35 for two bowls of Ramen and 10 gyoza. I dont think so! The quality, quantity and taste do not make up for the high price. Lets start with the gyoza. Its more like a mini gyoza and although tastes good, is definitely not worth a $ 1 ea. The Ramen broth is rich and cloudy, but VERY oily. Noodles are just ok and the why even put in the paper thin slice of pork. My UMAMI shrimp tonkatsu ramen was nothing more than a regular ramen with some shrimp paste in it. for $ 15 they are crazy. I am crazy for ordering a $ 15 ramen. Umami! my azz! Definitely would choose Gomaichi for ½ the price. So disappointed in this place.

I had their spicy ramen, their black garlic ramen and their shrimp postickers. Their ramen broth is rich and super oily. The noodle is thick and not too chewy. They give you chashu, bean sprout, half boiled egg and a fish cake. The chashu was not as tender as I like. I like their shrimp potsticker. It’s mainly just regular potsticker top with loads of garlic and minced shrimps. It’s a little pricey but it definitely added a lot of flavor to the potstickers. Everything was prepared pretty quickly and the ramen were hot and steamy! The ramen was also on the pricier side.
