My search has ended — Kurt and the staff over at MSG is the real deal! They have a very friendly and knowlegable staff with a huge variety of diving /​spearfishing gear to choose from.
From the avid snorkeler to the intense blue water diver, MSG definitely has the proper gear to get you up and running!

Super friendly workers! Picked up a gun from them at the expo back in September. Went to the shop in Kapahulu a bunch of times, too. Travis is one of the coolest guys with a wealth of knowledge about diving. I told him my wife isn’t too fond of him because I end up buying choke stuff when I talk to him. Totally trust the guy and I feel like he only sells me quality gear. He gave me some solid advice on things I don’t need so I don’t end up spending more than I need to. In terms of diving, I want be like Travis when I grow up. Went in another time when Wendell was working. Another friendly dude with a lifetime of experience and knowledge of diving. He put together a weight belt for me. Cheapest dive weights I’ve seen anywhere on the island. Travis, Wendell, and some of the other workers encourage me to head to the shop even if it’s to just talk stories. Awesome guys, excellent gear, and cheap prices equal a very happy me. Maui Sporting Goods is my go to spot for all of my dive gear needs!

From what I hear, good people are hard to come by these days. This is not the case here. Kurt is one super cool guy that keeps it REAL, not only about diving, but with life, too. The more and more we talked, the more respect I gained for him. Thank you.
As for products, QUALITY. Nothing mediocre or sub par will be sold under the impression that it’s the best. I mean, there are some cheaper cost friendly goods to be found but that’s only because it works well, people ask for it, and it sells.
That being said, I don’t see myself wanting to spend my money elsewhere unless absolutely necessary.
Drop by, talk story, support, buy some stuff… whatevers. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

EXCELLENT EXCELLENT shop across Safeway on kapahulu. Parking in the back is very limited, but even if you need to wait for a stall, it’s very well worth it. The customer service here is above and beyond.

My partner and I have been serious snorkelers and beginner freedivers. This small store has everything we need.
Our experience in service here has very been good.

GREAT shop on Kapahulu Avenue, right before Waiola Shave Ice and across the street from Safeway. I’m not a diver so I can’t really speak about most of the products but I do know outstanding customer service when I see it. We came here looking for a mask and Maui Sporting Goods had a good selection for reasonable prices, not crazy overpriced like other places. One of the guys who was working spent a lot of time explaining the benefits of the different masks, making sure we got what we were looking for but not in a pushy salesman way. It honestly just felt like we were talking story with a friend and that’s really what good customer service is all about! It was just an added bonus that a cute doggy assistant greeted us when we walked in the door.
I have a lot of friends who fish and dive so I will definitely be making a recommendation that they come check this place out whenever they need new gear!

After calling around and checking different fishing and dive shops, got my Aimrite Super Venom X 130!!! Oh Yeah! Piranha Gun!!! at Maui sporting Gudz… Awesome customer service and Gun selection. Best price on the Island too. I recommend this shop to all the fish hunters!

I stopped in to check out the shop and buy a copy of Sonny Tanabe’s book, The Evolution of Freediving. I had a great time talking to Kurt. He was very helpful with gear questions as well as how I, as a newbie, should proceed in the sport. Great place!

Everything you need for spearfishing and diving! Kurt and Wendell are some of the best divers out there, with great customer service and prices on quality gear. You won’t be disappointed!
Parking is very limited in the lot, but there should be ample parking on the street.
