Everyone was raving about their«opening special»(buy 2, get one), so I called to make sure they were still offering it before I went in today. They guy who answered the phone said yes, they were offering it, but GUESSWHAT. THEYARENT. Way to lie, jerk.

I’m glad they’ve brought a location East of the Like Like(my borderline of what is considered«far away»)… the couple times I visited their Aiea/Pearl City area locations i really liked their crazy combo rolls and volume for the value. At this Waialae location(located in the section of the Kaimuki shopping center ground floor to the right of Times) they offer a great variety of rolls, all kinds of combinations to suit your(my) variety-craving tastebuds and hoito appetite. At the time Lori I. and I visited, they were running a buy 2 get 1 free roll special, perhaps because they had just opened. Of course as with any brand-new place we experienced the normal hiccups(long-ish wait for food and … other interesting events) but I’m sure all of those minor kinks have been worked out by now. We both LOVED the roll with the salmon tempura… pieces on top of the roll as well as in the roll. fried perfectly, crispy on the outside, moist and tender inside! The scallop roll was also delicious, for me, better than the salmon but Lori will probably debate that one… TENDER scallop, I was impressed for take-out sushi I believe the last one we had was caterpillar? This one had spicy tuna inside and lots of avocado… it was average, but pretty! … so friends, this is why it’s best to write your review as soon after you eat/experience the place so you don’t forget what you ate… i can show you and describe but the names of the rolls evade me, I’m sorry. So… all in all, maybe it was all so delicious because of the copious amounts of yummy fatty mayo creamy sauce all over everything and the fact that three of these jumbo rolls only cost us $ 16 and some change but I’m a fan of Makoto, I’d prefer it over all the other quickie cheap sushi spots out there.

Delicious and generous, this sushi take out has really nice owners. They are still working on getting the gas line to be able to cook, and there is no cooler or soda fountain for drinks. So for now, only 3 stars. I love Korean Maki sushi and this Korean restaurant can’t make it yet… ;-( I like their sushi, the friendly owners/workers, and their big portions. Also, the hand roll sushi is wrapped in the plastic that keeps the seaweed nori crispy. You might have seen this type of wrapper at the 7 – 11 stores. Makes the seaweed less chewy. So there is a lot of room for improvement. I still have to go next door to Times Supermarket to get my drink… I can’t wait to be able to upgrade my rating… Come on now Makoto, let’s see your finished sushiya in a couple of weeks. I wanted to try sushi while I was in Oahu, and this was the first spot that I tried. I spent the day with my friend Gary, and his friends, a Korean family. The owner of this sushi restaurant was the wife’s sister. She recently sold the Korean BBQ place next door and opened up this small sushi restaurant. When we got there, we were treated to plates of food family style. I tried all kinds of Sushi. My favorites where the Heart Attack, which was a burst of flavor, and the eel wrapped spicy tuna. The Sushi was tasty, and the rice was fresh. Some of the bigger rolls took away from the flavor of the fish, and the Wasabi was milder than I like, but over all the food blended well and hit the spot. The sushi was cheap and tasty, and the owner was super friendly, and excited for people to try her new dishes. I heard they will be running a special next week. If you are in the neighboorhood and want some quick simple sushi, give this place a shot.
