Madoka

I had asked for caramel highlights and it came out brassy orange so I was disappointed. What made me more upset was that she brushed off my comments and said it was just the lighting more than a couple times in our conversation. I rescheduled with her to fix the mess but she gave me attitude the next time and just said I’m not used to the color and «it’s the lighting» crap so I gave up on her. I normally don’t write reviews but the way she was cocky about the situation made me dislike her regardless if she’s talented or not. Lose moneh!

Love Madoka! I’ve been going to her for couple years now and she never disappoints! She knows exactly what I like and makes me look amazing every time! I was a little scared to try something new but I’m glad I did because I have no regrets and I love my new color!!!

Thank you Madoka for the amazing updo. You are so talented. My mother in law’s wash and set style looked amazing too. Both hairstyles held up nicely in the humid, outdoor wedding.

Madoka is fantastic! My hair has a few weird tricks of its own, and it takes a talented stylist to cut it well. Madoka’s haircuts looked marvelous always and continued to look marvelous until the next haircut. I recommend her highly!

My endless search for a great hair stylist has finally come to an end! I’ve been to Madoka 3 times and I have been more than satisfied every time. This last haircut I went from super long (down to my lower back) to a mid/​short bob. It was a drastic cut, but I knew I was in good hands so I was able to go for it! That’s the kind of trust you will be able to instill in Madoka because she is THAT good.
Aside from her expert skills, she is very professional. Scheduling is really convenient with her, which I appreciate. She is easy to get a hold of (I usually email) and she will confirm right away and even send an i-​calendar notification!

I’ve been coming to Madoka for the past 5 years for haircuts and Japanese straight perms, and I’m never disappointed! She is always really sweet and easy to talk to, that the appointment seems to fly by quickly. Madoka is so meticulous and experienced, I always feel confident about trusting her suggestions and leaving my hair in her competent hands. I live on the mainland so I only get to see her when I’m back in town about once a year, but she even remembers what my hair was like a year ago! When she’s working on you, she makes you feel at ease and makes sure you’re happy with what she’s doing throughout the appointment. I wouldn’t hesitate to refer her to all of my friends and family when they are in need of hair/​makeup services!

When I moved to Oahu from the Big Island five years ago for college, I spent the better part of my first two semesters bouncing from stylist to stylist in a desperate search for someone who would not butcher me far worse than any serial killer ever could. I went to barbershops where you take a number and hope you get someone competent to salons where they give you imported mineral water and a three-​figure bill. Eventually, through Unilocal,I came to Salon 808 and Madoka.
I have been going to her for more than four years now.
What I appreciate about Madoka is that she does not impose her vision on you. It is neither than authoritarian «you’ll get whatever cut I feel like» from a tired-​looking barber nor the overly ambitious «let’s turn you into David Beckham» from a suspiciously flattering stylist, but rather a gentle voice that asks you what you would like. From there, she offers her own slight twists and recommendations to make the cut uniquely yours.
I also like how versatile her cuts can be. She has done edgy styles fit for college, more conservative ones suited for a professional environment, and everything in between. Her work does require a bit of maintenance to keep their appearance and, I have to admit, I get a bit lazy after a while. For the first few weeks, I look fantastic; afterwards, I look «merely» great. Once I start looking shabby, then I know it is time for another visit.
Now that I live on the East Coast, I appreciate her work even more as I begin my search for a stylist all over again. Her vision and versatility are a formula for success that is not easy to find. In the more than four years that I have been going to her, she has never steered me wrong and I think you will find the same.

I’ve been seeing Madoka for almost 3 years. I found her randomly searching to get brow waxed when I stumbled into Salon808. Thankful she had an opening for walk ins! She gets my brows «purrrfect» just the way I want it. Madoka also cuts and colors my hair. When I see her, I’m always indecisive on how I want to cut my hair or what color I want to dye. I bring pictures and she will whip up a blend to match. She’s able to give me her professional advice and I always trust her! I leave feeling very happy with my hair. I always get compliments on my hair.

I love love love Madoka! I’ve been to her twice and both times, I’ve been so happy with my hair. I got my haircut and went to a small event later that evening. You know she’s good when another long time, well-​known hairstylist notices right away! To quote her, «Who did your hair? It’s perfection! She did a really awesome job!»
Finding a good hairstylist that actually listens, gives feedback, asks you questions, AND delivers is so hard to find. Super stoked! I’ll definitely be back.

I moved here from Massachusetts about a year and half ago, and was worried about finding a hair stylist that could cut MY hair. It’s THICK and there is ALOT of it haha So because I didn’t know anyone who could give me a hair stylist recommendation I went to Unilocal and searched thick hair. Madoka’s name came up ALOT with high reviews.
I made an appointment and honestly. Wish I did it sooner! She’s amazing, better than any stylist I’ve had on the mainland. Just getting your hair washed by her is an experience. You leave feeling like you just meditated or went to yoga.
She really takes the time to listen to what you want, explains how she is going to go about the cut, and doesn’t pressure you or push you to do something you don’t want to do. She is a true professional and artist. She makes getting your hair cut/​dyed an experience that you are excited for because she is constantly learner about new trends in color, cuts, makeup, fashion, etc.
I also recently learned that she is a colorist teacher/​expert (idk exactly what it is called haha) but she gets flown around the islands to go to other salons and show them how to correctly cut/​color with new trends that are coming out. She also gets flown to the mainland a couple times a year to take more classes and convention to keep up and perfect her craft. I guess what I’m trying to say is that she REALLY knows what she’s doing! Plus she’s cute and great person to talk to!
Try her out, you won’t be disappointed.

Madoka is amazing!!! I’ve been going to her for over 6 years. I see Madoka for color and cuts, and will go to no one else. She cuts my hair exactly how I like it and colors my hair to anything I want. She’s takes the time to actually get to know you, which to me is important because a lot of places I feel like a rush job… In and out and goodbye!
After the first time seeing Madoka you will not go to anyone else!
