GARLICCHICKEN!!! That’s all I have to say. Haha, well that’s not all I have to say but whenever I pass this place or go in it, that’s all I can hear. My mind wants it, my mouth wants it, my tummy definitely wants it. Everytime I decide to go in there I tell myself I’m gonna try something different, but then I get in there, & I remember the taste of the garlic chicken in my mouth… It’s sooo good! Addicting really. Can’t have just one. It’s a good thing they’re bite-size, so I can have as many crunchy-batter/juicy-chicken/garlic-y goodness pieces that I want. Well not really because the plate fills me up pretty good, but if I were a bottomless pit I’d eat them constantly ;). Comes with a load of rice & fried minced garlic, mmmm. Oh! &3 sides, all different everytime I’ve been there, served on the side in cute little dishes. I’ve been in the restaurant as well as ordered take-out from here & everytime it’s been fantastic. Water gets refilled without having to ask. It’s clean. There’s a flatscreen. It’s family owned & operated, & made to order, so everything is hot & fresh. The customer service is good & friendly, especially from the younger girl(Yuki). What else is there to say… oh yah GARLICCHICKEN! Try it, do it, hurry, you know you want to. :)

Half of my family in Seattle is Korean so coming to KoreaMoku BBQ feels like home! Everything is amazing and the homemade kimchee rivals that of my Korean Stepmom! I forever will be loyal to KoreaMoku BBQ! Thank you!

Very friendly staff. I believe most of them are family. Excellent service and great food. A little small but I’ve never had a problem getting a seat. Either way, it’s great to eat in or grab and go.

Was hungry during a day of errands and DIDNOT want to eat at L&L inside Walmart, but still wanted something quick. Koreamoku was perfect. Had the spicy fire chicken. It was wonderful. The chicken was moist(so marinaded in something) then freid with a light and spicy crust, and a BBQ /little bit spicy sauce on top. It was sizzling hot and the crust was light, crunchy and flavorful. It knocked my socks off! Don’t let the name fool you, it isn’t too spicy, just well seasoned. My other half had the cheese burger with fries. Even though this was written up in the newpaper, we weren’t impressed. Bun was a bit too big, meat was over done and dense. It was OK, just nothing to repeat. My bf was so bummed. He’s eating this burger while I’m swooning over the fire chicken. It pays to be a little adventurous.

I saw some ads for this place and decided to check them out. I had the mochiko chicken. It was on special for $ 5.95. I was expecting a small portion for the price but it was a good sized portion with 3 kinds of sides and lots of rice. The chicken was crunchy but with a light batter. It was really tasty. I thought I read that they dont use sugar in the batter but it still had a slight sweet taste to it. The chicken was very moist. While we were eating the place filled up real quick. One lady in there was saying how awesome the garlic chicken is. I asked her if it was crunchy, she said yes. She was ordering 5 plates and she said that it was the best garlic chicken she ever had. Guess I’ll be back soon to check that out.

I would say this place deserves a 1 ½ star. Honestly tho, I didn’t try much from here. But my first impression from first holding my take out order made me want to cry. I ordered a plate lunch and a side order of cheese toast, felt like I was holding a bag of air. I’ve eaten Korean take out all my life and I know I’m getting my moneys worth when the take out is heavy. I mean you are getting 4 side dishes and 2 scoops rice to accompany your meal. So I was already ready for a disappointment. And disappoint I was. Their side dishes was terrible, the Kimchee was ok, but the other side dishes looked and tasted like it was made without any effort to even make it a tiny bit edible… I ordered this pork hamburger thing. And it had a rotten smell and taste to it. And it was dry. Cheese toast… Cmon man… If u gonna recommend something. Atleast do something that a typical 9yr old that’s allowed to a microwave can’t do. I liked the name, gave it a shot and boy did they fail. I swear anyone who rate this place above 3 stars are friends or family of the owners of this place

Every now and then I’ll stop by here to get some food since I live nearby and I must say that everything I’ve gotten thus far has been delicious. My favorites are: Garlic Chicken Bulgolgi Spicy Pork Steak Panini Beefsteak Tofu(I think? Fried Tofu with Beefsteak???) With any of the above, you can’t go wrong and I’m pretty sure anything else on the menu is pretty good, too. The garlic chicken is nice and crunchy but with enough meat and the rest all are made coming out really tender and juicy. Each plate(aside from the panini which comes with fries) comes with an array of side dishes, as well. Portions are enough to make me walk out feeling content but slightly full so it’s always enough. Service speed is typical for a plate lunch place(5 – 10 min) but with a TV switched to FX, the time flies by pretty quickly(for a guy, at least). I haven’t met the girl who works there that people are talking about in other reviews, but the young guy working there is friendly and makes recommendations if you’re not sure what to get. Parking is usually easy as you can park in that small parking lot between the shop and Ross(enter from Keaamoku) for free, as well. Whether or not you’re getting tired of the typical meat-jun or kalbi plates from other Korean BBQ places, this is definitely a good change-up and I highly recommend it. Next time you’re shopping at Ala Moana or Wal-Mart or just in the area, stop by and you won’t regret it!

Ordered the Garlic Chicken and the Combo Special. The Combo Special had pork bulgogi, chicken katsu, and pork kalbi. The Garlic Chicken had good garlicky flavor, while not being completely overpowering. The chicken was moist and crispy. The Combo special came with a lot of food. The pork kalbi tore off the bone easily, and was good. The pork bulgogi had a lot of flavor, and the chicken katsu was standard. Both orders came with 4 sides, kimchi, seaweed, corn, and some fishcake thing(not sure of the name). It was a lot of food for 2 people, and we had enough leftover for lunch.

I went into this restaurant with my friends a few days ago. The food was great and prices were reasonable not to mention the girl working in the front was very considerate and helpful. Will definitely be coming back.

Still on my quest to search out the garlic chicken dishes on the island, I stopped into Koreamoku BBQ after noticing the Garlic Chicken on special.(Not part of their normal menu, but it doesn’t look like the specials change much.) HOLYGARLIC, BATMAN. How do you know when there’s a lot of garlic? 1) When someone in the restaurant orders it and their friend at the table gets a whiff of it, makes an appalled wince and goes, «What IS that??» 2) When you walk into Walgreens with the garlic chicken and the cashier smells it THROUGHTHEBAG and goes, «Whoa! … Maybe you should get some gum.»(He was right, it was necessary.) Most places that make garlic chicken make it(I think) by frying it and putting it through some shoyu/garlic sauce. Not Koreamoku. They fry it, but you can see, smell and taste the minced garlic that gets cooked up with the chicken. Comes with a red, mostly-not-spicy sauce that actually tastes really good with the garlic chicken. Ultimately, it was too much garlic for me. I couldn’t finish the plate. Then again, I think that’s more a statement that I’m just a mini-fan of garlic. Drawbacks: food took a while(15 – 20 mins from order to getting my food); good luck making friends after eating the garlic chicken Positives: good flavors(as long as you like garlic); good assortment of veggies; good sauces/kimchee; prices fair($ 8 for garlic chicken, but quite a bit of food) I’d come back to try a few other items, but the garlic proved too much for me. Tip of advice, though — if you *do* eat the garlic chicken, I kid you not, it WILL stick with you. I was told I smelled like a clove of garlic later on that night. So … do you LOVE garlic?

Took my bf out to eat here today. The girl who was working was really friendly and helpful! I love coming here for the korean pancake w/cheese. Only thing I would say is that some items take longer to cook, according to the waitress; so you might get discouraged from ordering a certain item if you don’t want to wait that long. I don’t know exactly where to park here so me and my bf just parked at walmart and walked across. It’s a little hole in the wall restaurant that i’ve become a fan of. What I found out today too is that its a «fusion» korean bbq combining western foods like burgers and paninis into korean style bbq. It’s a unique concept that I haven’t tried before, but has amazing results. I look forward to the next chance I have time to come here!

Heard about this place by word of mouth, so I figured I’d give it a shot, since it’s been a while since I’ve had really good Korean food. The food didn’t disappoint, but other things did. When we went in, I walked up and ordered the pork bulgogi. My girlfriend couldn’t decide what she wanted, and the lady pressed her to order various things, although there was no one waiting in line. My girlfriend then decided on three separate things, each responded to with a «no that’ll take too long to make». Outrageous! I appreciate the honesty, but it seemed like half of the menu was off-limits because it would have«taken too long to make». Redeemed itself with the funny restaurant name and the quality of food; the bulgogi was sweet and a little spicy, good for what I wanted and better than i expected. The meat jun was decent, but not the best I’ve ever had — a lot of egg.

Rarely does a restaurant have me make return visits more than a couple times a month. That being said, I frequent KoreaMoku BBQ at least twice a week! I can’t quite put a finger on what gives this particular venue an awesomeness only rivaled by the chariots of Apollo: The warm-hearted, family-run service? The maddeningly addictive taste of the garlic chicken? Or is it simply the retro-like checkerboard table mat? Here is a list of the items I’ve had, with corresponding review: 1) Garlic chicken: What I feel is definitely the #1 highlight. Sized like popcorn chicken, each piece is oily, garlicky, and retains just the right ratio of batter: chicken. I want to eat this until my stomach explodes. Literally. My tombstone will read, «Ate till his stomach exploded, compliments of KoreaMoku BBQ.» And below, in smaller font, «It was worth it.» 2) Pork Bulgogi(Spicy Pork): Shredded pork gets barbecued with some spicy seasoning, which goes ridiculously well with the garlic chicken. The spice of the pork offsets the saltiness of the chicken, and vice versa. 3) Steak Panini: Toasted bread slices sandwich together strips of steak, cabbage, and homemade spicy bbq sauce. Served with freshly made fries, this sandwich provides just enough volume and taste to satiate the lunch hunger. 4) Burger and fries: Uses a unique combo of mozzarella cheese and cabbage, which is an interesting take on the classic American burger(lettuce and what I like to call«yellow cheese»). Also served with an abundance of fries. 5) Bulgogi: Shredded pieces of beef barbecued with a sweeter, teriyaki like flavor. If you seek asylum from garlic and spice, this is where the steeple is. 6) Garlic Beef: Large strips of barbecued beef with chopped garlic, exactly as advertised with its name. 7) Deep Fried Garlic Shrimp: LACED with garlic at every crevice, this little delicacy can be eaten in its entirety, without the worry of an overly chewable shell; the deep frier takes care of that. 8) Pork Ribs: So tender, the meat will practically fall off the bone. Slathered in a mildly sweet bbq sauce and somewhat messy, this entrée was the suggestion of the owner/waiter. I tipped him 50% for not leading me in the wrong direction. I’ve also had several different side dishes and other main courses that get lost in the ecstasy that had been my dining experiences. I can’t quite recall them with 100% of my cognitive faculties. Its almost like when you’re under the influence of a psychotropic drug, narcotic or some other mind-altering substance: you know it happened and how awesome the experience had been, but the details can sometimes be beyond the reach of recollection. All I remember is the name, «KoreaMoku BBQ,»…and perhaps that’s all I’ll ever need to remember.

I read about it in the news paper and thought that it woudl have been a little busier but, i’m glad it wasn’t. Parking in the Sam Sung(is that the right place) Plaza is FREE with validation and this eatery validates up to one hour. The place it self is very clean and then one man front service staff is awesome. You can dine in or eat out, but if you do dine in the drink refills are free :-) … i like this place already free parking and free refills(that’s like almost every where you go lol) But I had the Fried Tofu and Steak. The portion size was perfect, comming with three little sides, bean sprouts, kim chee and a green onion pancake thing lol I dunno what it’s called but i ate all of mine and then my boyfriends. The steak was very tastey reminded me of the steak you can eat at Shillowan(yakiniku restaraunt), the tofu was alright, and this is how they can improve on the friend tofu part: The batter it self is a little too salty, and the tofu is too soft; needs a better crisp batter and firm tofu. Rice portion is nice and very filling. I need dessert! lol The boyfriend had the Pork Chop same deal came with three sides. ONE nice sized pork and rice. IT was a sweeter pork chop but tastey none the less. It filled him up for the moke he is. Our meal all together cost 23USD. Not bad for us. Overall rating with this one visit, LIKE i’d come back, plus it’s open till 10pm. That gives us more variety to eat at night, nothing wrong with Zippy’s but gotta switch it up now and then. I reccomend at least a sample.

Oh Yeah. KoreaMoku. I just had to try this place for its name. The interior was clean and new. I like the menu and ended up with the spicy crispy chicken and bulgogi. Nice side veges including kim chi. Food was tasty and served hot. I had my plate to go. Over all pretty good deal. Combo came out to about $ 10.

The restaurant situation around Keeaumoku Street is pretty fluid — a lot of new places come and go. The newest among them is KoreaMoku BBQ, located in the spot formerly occupied by La Isla Burrito. It bills itself as a «burger and fusion BBQ» place, serving burgers and Korean plates. A couple of new burger places have opened up nearby, both within walking distance of work — Kiawe Grill and Honolulu Burger. Both of them, though, were a bit on the pricey side, where a burger, fries, and drink would set you back around $ 12.00. Here, the comparable burger set costs just $ 7.00 — definitely within most people’s budget. But is it worth eating? Well, the burger came out in a standard red basket, on a good sized bun, with cabbage instead of lettuce and what looked like mozzarella cheese on top. Not sure what was in the sauce on top, but I think ko chu jang must definitely have been a part of it. The spiciness creeped up on me, though… before I knew it, my tongue was tingling. All in all, it was OK, but nothing to really write home about. I happened to sit next to some fellow HMSA employees who were lunching on some of their Korean plates. Their verdict? Judging from their reaction, it would probably be, «meh.» But I think I’ll probably have to come back one of these days to try for myself.
