My husband and I always used to go here for our Korean food fix. The meat jun and BBQ chicken are so yummy. The price is good for the amount of food that you get. Sometimes the potatoes are a little hard and undercooked but everything else totally makes up for it. The garlic mayo potatoes are so good while my husband always gets the shoyu potatoes as sides.

The bf is Korean, he’s into Korean food’s obviously to a Korean plate lunch place we go! Right across the street from Chaminade University/St. Louis High School. Parking is limited and parking spots are really tight. Interior is small and has 2 bench like tables. Interior is clean but not spotless like if this were a newly opened joint. Typical Korean menu. Nothing spectacular, but not horrible either. Usually order the usual bbq chicken, meat jun, with the garlic potato side. Kimchee is VERYBLAND! And I know what real kimchee taste like! So disappointing!

I haven’t tried too many items on the menu, but the Mandoo Soup is killer. When I’m sick, it is on my top list of cravings. For just under $ 7 you don’t really get a lot, but it comes with one side of your choice: Kimchee, potato, garlic potato salad, bean sprouts, etc. Let the Ajuma(Ajima) know what you want, or she’ll probably just give you Kimchee. Nothing is wrong with Kimchee, but JR’s isn’t very spicy at all. In my opinion, it’s more«local style» kimchee.

I have been going to JR’s BBQ for over 10 years now, and still today is one of the cheaper good quality Korean restaurants. If you first walk in it looks a little run down and plain, but the food makes up for all of that, this place shows that a place doesn’t have to be flashy and nice to have good food. My favorite combo there is the Meat Jun and Chicken plate, with a regular combo plate you also get 4 sides, I normally get the mac salad(one of my favorite mac salads around) potato salad, kim chi and corn. but they have a wide variety of sides to choose from. If your looking for fairly priced good quality Korean food, this is the joint to hit up.

How rude is it when your brother comes home bringing in a big ol’ plate of meat jun and bbq chicken? No even share. Whatevers! I go buy my own! I can see why he never like share. The meat jun tastes unique. I don’t know what they do but the egg is fused to the meat and never falls apart. I love it! It must be some secret family secret because i haven’t had it like this anywhere!

I love Korean food and this is one of my favorite places to get some. They don’t use MSG, except a little in the kim chee and the food is pretty tasty. The owner is really nice too. We’ve catered from here on numerous occasions. Yes, depending on who’s working the counter, they don’t give enough vegetables, but other than that, I have no complaints. The meat jun, spicy chicken, and bbq chicken are some of my favorites. The seaweed soup is really tasty as well. Also, if you order Jap Che(sp?) the long rice, you can ask for the fancy one. She adds more vegetables in it and it tastes awesome. She also makes these other white noodles that have a sweet sauce on them. I usually get that when it’s available. Definitely recommend this place for Korean food!

I like JRs way more than L and L or any other Korean take-out place for the quality of the food. The prices are reasonable, about the same as other take out places, and they have a lot to choose from. They have standard sides: seaweed, potato salad, bean sprouts, corn, long rice etc. I usually get the chicken katsu. JRs is located right across from the St. Louis/Chaminade entrance on Waialae. Parking can be a little hard to find if you come during lunch time, as the private lot in front is a little small.

The lady had horrible customer service and was pretty rude! The portions were so small compared to any other Korean BBQ place. You definitely do not get your moneys worth. I will NEVER go there again.

if it wasn’t right across the street i prolly wouldn’t go outta my way to go here. the food is good. my go-to is bbq pork mini plate, with that potato in mayo thing as a side dish. the kimchi is not that good. call your order in ahead so it’ll be ready though cuz otherwise you wait around while your meat is being cooked and there really ain’t much to see or do there.

Jr’s is located right off of Waialae near St. Louis Drive In, on the corner of 3rd in the little cluster of take out restaurants(Subway and L&L). (Right across St. Louis and Chaminade University.) Open: Mon-Sat 10am-10pm, Sun 10am-9pm Jr’s stands out from the rest of the Korean BBQs – very friendly service, reasonable prices, generous portions, and tasty food(considering it is take out/Korean fast food and the prices are comparatively low). The mandoo soup here is one of my faves. And at $ 6.85 + tax, I can’t argue. Plus, it comes with 1 side of your choice. I like the garlic potato salad. I don’t know how they do it, but it’s delicious! I’d go to Jr’s JUST for this! I’m glad the bf and I discovered this hidden gem. We will continue to get our mandoo soup fix here, especially on those rainy, cold nights!

A couple of friends of mine raved about the spicy bbq chicken here so my curiosity was definitely aroused and went to go check the place out. It’s located on Waialae Avenue, right before St Louis Drive Inn and across the street from St Louis HS. There’s also an L&L and Subway in the same mini corner strip mall. The place only has 3 dine in tables and is pretty dingy and scuzzy overall. Good thing that kind of stuff doesn’t really bother me as long as the food’s good. As is typical for any local Korean take out place, you get a selection of 4 side dishes with your order. I perused the banchan selection here and have to say that it did not make a good first impression. The banchan looked pretty lifeless and not tasty at all. I had the spicy bbq chicken and my dad had the spicy bbq pork. I gotta say, the spicy bbq chicken was pretty damn good. The chicken meat was tender and the sauce was just the right amount of salty and spicy. I ended up eating all the chicken which I believe was 3 big boneless thighs. My dad’s spicy pork was also very decent and he ate all of his meat too. Overall, just 3 stars for the ghetto-ness of the place, cramped parking, and uninspiring banchan, but delicious meats.

This is my no-fail Korean bbq place when I go back home. I never miss a chance to come here. The bbq chicken is always good and was my low carb staple when on the that diet. Body fat begone and I was almost 1% body fat.

This place definitely needs some more Unilocal love. If you think just because you’ve been to Sorabol in Westfield you know fast Korean BBQ, you’ll be in for a very pleasant surprise when you get here. This hole-in-the-wall, I-would-only-go-here-because-my-friend-swears-it’s-delicious place won’t catch your eye. In fact, you’ll probably drive by it thinking, «There’s no way THAT could be the place they’re talking about.» We did. But yes, suppress your fears of undercooked meat and dirty kitchens, because you don’t find those here. All you’ll find is uh-mazing Korean BBQ, served up by a woman who you could adopt as your Asian grandmother. True, she doesn’t speak much English, and you probably won’t know the names of the items you’re ordering, but what you do get is this: — Tasty bbq chicken(as in, what looks like an entire chicken on your plate) — Rice(standard) — One side, two sides, three sides, four. Yes FOUR sides. — Grandmother’s love and patience as you order Price: $ 8.50 I did not stutter, I did not mistype. I’ll admit, I couldn’t believe how awesome this situation was when she told me I could have four sides. Anything from potatoes to veggies to all sorts of Korean deliciousness that you probably can’t pronounce. Whatever you do, get the marinated potatoes. Get two sides’ worth. Whatever sort of special crack sauce they use in the baking of these potatoes will leave you wanting more. I could go on and on, but I’ll save some room for other Unilocalers to show this place some love. You will be amazed by the amount of food you will get for $ 8.50. Keep in mind two things: it’s mostly a take-out place, and it’s CASHONLY. Happy eating.

First trip to Hawaii and fortunate enough to have friends that have been numerous times and know little places to get awesome food. JR’s is one of those places. It’s a tiny, dingy little place that serves up some mean Korean BBQ. The lady behind the counter was super helpful despite the fact that myself and my friend are dumb white people. Behold: Dumb White People: What is that? Onions? Nice Korean Lady: Bean Sprout. DWP: Oh, ok. We’ll have some of that. What about that? Rice noodle? NKL: Potato. DWP. Ah, well that looks alright. Some of that. Is that eggplant? NKL: Squash. DWP: FAIL. Ok, that too. Here’s our credit card. NKL: Cash only. DWP: DOUBLEFAIL. But yes, come here and be amazed that you got 7 pounds of amazing food for $ 8. Highly recommended.

They give a lotta food for a decent price. Yes, it’s standard quickie Korean bbq food, order what ever entrée dish you want and pick your side dishes. I used to get delivery service when I was working at UH, but that was so long ago, that I’m not sure if they do that anymore. The place looks really worn and run down, but the food is good. So just order your food and get take out. I like the food here because they are consistently good, even the side dishes. I like the fried chicken the best.
