I will never order a burger from here again. The meat was extremely skimpy, and the bread was HUGE. I felt like I was eating lettuce, cheese, bbq sauce and bread. I was not impressed. However their pastrami sandwiches — looked very impressive. The guy sitting across from us ordered it and literally made me wanna cry because I knew I should have ordered the pastrami The«large» fries wasn’t even a real large. They have these baskets and it literally was only enough to cover the bottom with one layer. They were however crunchy, which was nice.

Taste– Wasn’t very impressive. My cuban sandwich mediocre at best. The pork roast had little taste. On top of that, it was pre-made. My parents’ chicken sandwich was bland, with no seasoning on the chicken. Ambience– Depressing. Dimly lit dining and cooking area. The tables and chairs were sticky. Affordability– Reasonable prices. You can find almost everything under $ 10. Presentation– Wasn’t sloppy at all. Everything was well presented and easy to eat. Service– Decent at best. Wasn’t greeted upon entrance, and just didn’t have a good vibe for the place.

The burgers here are huge but the food and service were mediocre at best. There definite better places for burgers on island. Would have been much better if the AC worked and the customer service was more accommodating.

Sadly, I wont be returning to my local burger joint. I went in the other day to order some fries. I was told that Fries are a «side order» and are only sold with a burger or sandwich. What? Isn’t EVERYTHING on the menu«for sale»? I have never experienced that before. Sadly, it goes right in line with Hawaii…” A low IQ state”. Aloha ISLAND Burger. Off to Teddy’s I go!!!

My associates and I are in this area a lot and have stopped by this spot several times. For the price, you get a decent amount of food and the food is ok. We mostly came here because it’s affordable and the food was not terrible. Between 2014 and 2016 we had eaten here at least 15 times. The Korean owner is usually working and is definitely not friendly. One day we stopped in here because my coworker wanted to grab some fries as a snack. The owner very curtly told us we couldn’t order fries. He explained that fries could only be ordered with a meal. We couldn’t see any signs explaining that policy and would just like some fries. He started getting rude and appeared upset as he started to raise his voice and tell us to order a full meal or leave. Needles to say, we never went back. Here in the United States, customer service is highly valued. You could’ve made a few bucks that day by selling us fries and keeping loyal customers. Instead, you’re going to lose out on a few hundred dollars a year by running off regulars. On top of that, overtime our friends and family are with us in the area, we make sure to tell everyone about the rudeness of the owner and have managed to dissuade several people from giving them business. Get a clue.

We liked this place. Yes, it can get a little greasy. Yes, it may have taken six months off of my life eating the burger and fries. But you kinda know what you’re getting when you come into a place like this, and Island Sub and Burger delivered. My wife and I split an Avocado Bacon Cheeseburger, a Pastrami Reuben, and a large order of fries. The Reuben was good — crispy on the outside, tender and cheesy on the inside — but the burger was definitely the hit of the evening. It was big and juicy, the produce was fresh and didn’t get lost, and did I mention it was BIG? The fries were decent. Let me be clear: that was WAY too much food for the two of us. We actually ate the rest for lunch the next day. I know appetites vary, so ymmv, but we seriously could have ordered the burger(½ pound ground chuck patty) and a small fries and been very satisfied. On top of that, prices were amazingly reasonable for the portions and quality. Free parking in the lot. We’ll be back.

On point everytime, good filling burgers and clean place to eat. One of the best options for eating in the manoa shopping center. They have pastas rice plates and burgers all made with quality ingredients. Friendly service too!

Island Sub & Burger is so unhealthy but I don’t even care!!! This is definitely one of those YOLO meals for me. Portions are large, fries are greasy, and sandwiches are made of saucy and cheesy goodness! I’m a vegetarian and I like the veggie sandwich(just go easy on the onions!), but my favorite is the eggplant parm! Lots of sauce and cheese on this. This place cranks out food fast and consistently delivers a good and hearty meal that will probably not agree with your inseam, but will leave you happy and full.

My mom and I looked in the window and saw some people eating the French fries. The burgers and sandwiches didn’t look so good. we decided we’d order a side to have with our sandwiches from Red Ginger. We went to buy them and the rude woman behind the counter said the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. They do not sell fries alone. You must buy a meat in order to buy an order of French fries. Crazy!!! The owners who made this rule are just missing out on $$$! Won’t be going back there! For anything!

Good size salads and tasty sandwiches! For me it was a pleasant surprise in price and flavor. I’ll be back again for sure!

I’ve been here beforehand started using Unilocal. That’s why I was so disappointed with my food today. The hamburger patty was kind of tough today, and required a bit of sawing to cut. Also, the part that made this dish so good before: the sautéed mushrooms and onions, were undercooked. The gravy was also kinda thin in terms of flavor, another downer. Lastly, the Mac salad, which to me is the aspect that pulls the whole dish together, was kind of… Gritty? That’s never an adjective I’ve used to describe Mac salad, but I will here. Having had so much better from here before, I’m hoping today was just a bad day. The lines were longer than usual, so maybe that’s why the food was subpar. But I think I’ll look elsewhere for now when I’m hungry for hamburger steak.

Oh dear. We were looking to pick up a quick take-out dinner last week and considered all the choices around Manoa Marketplace. Island Sub & Burger looked pretty good, and I had remembered eating a decent burger there a couple years ago, so we decided to go there. They have about 5 or 6 plate lunch choices, all for $ 6.50, so we got the chili dog plate, steak plate, and the hamburger steak plate. First negative — it took about 15 minutes for them to finish cooking the meal. And there was no one else in the restaurant! Secondly, two of the three plates were not so great. The chili dog plate had Kraft cheese melted on top of the rice. It was quite bizarre and not so delicious. The chili itself tasted like it came straight from a can. The hamburger steak plate had an overcooked very thin burger, and horrible mac salad(it tasted spoiled). But the steak plate was alright. Bottom line — avoid the plate lunches, and get the sandwiches instead.

They should totally open two hours more daily because there seems to be a mad rush that has a feeling like these are spill over people from other restaurants that are closed or packed. The young guy at the counter is pretty swift he remembers who ordered what and goes whizzing buy to deliver to their table while taking orders making orders and cleaning up. Out of all of the places to eat this place is a gem as far as I’m concerned. They’re reasonable and very unassuming. I always forget they are here but I would come here more often if they changed the hours because I am habitually late.

I ordered the corned beef reuben, the meetball penne pasta and a small french fry. The food was so delicious and the reuben was a big sandwhich. When I finished it I could barely eat any of the French fries. The pasta was good as well, though I wish there was an option to have meat sauce instead of meatballs.

The eggplant parmesan sandwich was incredibly good. Good bread, tasty eggplant parmesan, and tasty(but not quite enough) marinara sauce. The french fries were great with just the right amount of salt and some other seasoning that I couldn’t quite place. The sandwiches are not dirt cheap(like their plates are) but are definitely well worth the reasonable price.

I had the steak plate and the eggplant sandwich. I love steak, but this steak was lacking something. The steak did come with gravy, but it didn’t match. The steak was a little overdone and it could use some seasoning, I think a little salt and pepper would have been good. The sandwich, i was thinking where’s the eggplant because the eggplant was cut so thin(and the bread was so thick and big). .with the breading one piece of eggplant was a little thicker than two pringles chips. I ate the sandwich and it was GOOD(I was so surprised) could have used a little more sauce, but it was good.. I would definitely eat that again. The French fries has this yellow seasoning that gives it a little tang.. At first I liked it, but after eating quite a few I didn’t care for it.

PLATELUNCHES AKA Special«Rice» Plates $ 6.50 each. What a steal. Among these«Rice» plates are: Hamburger Steak Pork Chop Steak Shoyu Chicken Chili Dog HAMBURGERSTEAK W/EGG(S) Who doesn’t love a good loco moco? Well, this place doesn’t have loco mocos on the menu, but they do have a killer hamburger steak plate to which you may add(for an additional fee of $ 0.75 per) egg(s) to. Make sure you ask for the HAMBURGER steak plate and not the steak plate, bc if you ask for the latter, you will get straight up steak cut up into pieces with a bunch of brown gravy. Hey, you may be into the steak with gravy… But when I’m craving a loco moco, I want a loco moco(not steak with gravy). Bottom line — make sure you’re clear on what you’re ordering. GRAVY Now — for the dish on the gravy: Brown, succulent gravy. Not too salty. Not too thin or viscous either. It’s the perfect consistency that sticks just how it’s supposed to. I don’t know how they do it or what they do to make it so dang tasty, but it’s freakin’ delicious. I seriously eat everything on my plate because of this gravy — yes, every single grain of rice — and only because of this gravy.(The egg(s) helps, too.) VERDICT Hamburger steak plate + egg(s) all the way. Worth the trip. Worth the tax on cholesterol. Worth the guilt trip. Worth it, worth it, worth it.

Hamburger had good intensions… but was super super dry. Too bad because the bun was decent and the veggies were fresh. I felt jipped on the on onion rings…7 pieces for $ 2.50. Fries were subpar. I would’ve been happy to wait the 20 minutes if the food was good. 2 stars because the burger would’ve been good if it hadn’t been overlooked so badly.

There’s a pretty unknown eatery for those outside of Manoa! I wonder why since it’s clean, tasty and cheap, too! This little known spot is called… ISLANDSUB&BURGER! No, it has nothing to do with the infamous«Yellow Submarine», and yes, there’s more than just one«Burger» here, but what this spot offers is delicious sandwiches(so I heard), burgers and plate lunch specials, too! On my first visit here, mind you I’m a health nut, and usually headed to rabbit food places like«Red Ginger», «Andy’s», and«Morning Glass»… But today, I just wanted something fast, cheap & filling. Good would be a bonus, too! ISLANDSUB&BURGER! It’s located in Manoa Marketplace, between«Fendu» & «Kay’s Crack Seed». It’s been here for at least 4 – 5 years now, replacing a very popular sandwich shop, but for some reason I’m always headed somewhere else and always craving something else. ‘Cause remember I’m a rabbit! Today, was the day I actually walked-in, ordered and ate! After a morning meeting with my lovely BFF over some coffee, I am famished and it’s now lunch hour, I’m now back in my hood and for some odd reason I recall the lunch plates here are $ 6.21! Mind you, I never walked into this place before, but I’m a numbers guy and that $ 6.21 resonated in me. «$ 6.21, $ 6.21, $ 6.21» glowing in my analytical head! After being greeted, I see the choices for the $ 6.21 plates. About 6 choices, from Pork Chops to Shoyu Chicken, Steak to Curry, and Hamburger Steak to Nathan’s Chili Dog! Today the Hamburger Steak is calling me! I place my order and wait and wait and wait! Ugggh! Yes, I waited a good 20-minutes for it! You can look at it negatively or positively — I chose being positive — waiting 20 minutes means it’s cooked fresh and not scooped, right?! When it was finally ready it was actually brought up to me rather them shouting that it was ready. Nice touch for a semi-fast food place! The Hamburger Steak did not disappoint! It was angus beef, lightly seasoned and with a nice mushroom gravy & onions over it. It came with two scoops of rice(I only needed one) and in-house Mac-salad. The burger was thin, but cooked just right and I like that it was not overly salted like some places! To me it was worth every penny of the $ 6.21! In fact, I’ll pay $ 6.22 for it! Well, with tax it was exactly $ 6.50! Good deal, indeed! So yes, I definitely recommend… ISLANDSUB&BURGER! A casual sandwich/burger/plate lunch spot that not many outside of Manoa knows about. Just wish they cooked faster tho, ha! Nevertheless, it passed my test for cheap & good eats! Oh yeah, maybe they should change the signage to «ISLANDSUB(S) &BURGER(S)», y’know since they do have more than one each! Oh btw, it has nothing to do with«The Beatles» — «Yellow Submarine»… Just make sure you have $ 6.21 + .29 in your pocket! Just saying! SOLID. Just avoid the steak plate. 3.5-STARS!

Bar vibe upon entering even though no alcohol. Trying the Unilocal recommended hamburger plates. Can’t believe it’s $ 6.21 each! Hope I don’t get what I paid for. Ordered one for my mom and me. Taking a little while which I don’t mind if it’s being cooked fresh. Regulars who they know seem to be coming in for their fixes. Pastramis. Hmmm. Still waiting. Saw cook leave the kitchen for a sec. The pastrami people got their orders already even if came in after me. I guess that’s a tip. I think they would do a lot better if the place was brighter. The taste test. Great! Definitely worth more than the price! Comes with LOTS of grilled onions which I love. Mom seems to be enjoying it too. She said it’s good. Definitely the place to go if you’re craving a good hamburger plate but you’re short on cash.
