Simply awesome. A buddy brought a tub(about 4 lbs) of miso butterfish for Super Bowl Sunday. I know how tasty it is so I grill them AFTER the game when most guests have already eaten and drank a ton of beer. Now most are either too full or drunk to eat and there’s more for ones who figured out my game plan. Pretty sneaky but pretty smart too.

Thick cuts of butterfish, and marinated well. I generally take off the miso, since I feel it’s a bit too strong if you don’t. Easy to cook… I just grill in the oven for a few minutes. Always better to call in first, before heading down there. Owners are very nice and friendly. **They only take cash.

I was craving Miso Butterfish, so I came across this place. The previous reviews are spot on, so make sure to follow and call them BEFORE you go. If I ever need miso butterfish I know where to go.

INCREDIBLE miso butter fish. Very thick fillet cuts, an inch or more, from large black cod. No wimpy end pieces. Spine removed. No tiny bones. Firm flesh. Deeply marinated. Sweet miso goodness. Just one thing, you gotta cook it yourself. It’s easy AND there are added bonuses. Option 1 — Sear in an oiled pan flesh side down, over high heat for a minute then finish in a 375 degree oven for 15 minutes. Eat and enjoy. Bonus, you get to clean the oil splatter from the stove top, floor, nearby counter, and yourself. Option 2 — Place under a low temperature broiler for 20 minutes on a lightly oiled broiling pan. Eat and enjoy. Bonus, you get to scrub the charred pan for an hour. Option 3 — Cook it over hardwood charcoal(indirect heat) for 15 minutes. Eat and enjoy. Bonus, you get to break out the power washer to clean the burnt mess on the grill. Option 4 — Guys, have your wife do the cooking any way she wants. Eat and enjoy. Bonus, whoever cooks gets to clean. Turn on the tube, watch the game.(Warning, this option may result in the loss of bedtime privileges for an unknown amount of time). Check out Brian M’s review for all the ordering details. Tip: The price per pound decreases with your order size(best deal is $ 16.95/lb 4lb tub). The posted prices are only approximations. Assume only two very large pieces per pound(It’s been the case in the past five visits) Tip: The uncooked fish will last up to two weeks in the fridge. Do not freeze unless you want mush. Tip: Reuse the miso to make incredible miso chicken, miso salmon, etc… A real discovery; outed.

Hawaiian Miso & Soy Co. is one of the places I come to get my miso butterfish. Whenever I have a cookout or make my way to the Outer Islands and Aunty says«Oh long time I neva eat butterfish». Ok Ok Aunty I catch the hint, I’ll go to pick up some miso butterfish before I catch the plane… Lol! If you decide to pick some«Ono» miso butterfish, it’s a good idea to call ahead and put your order in. Many times I have told HMSC that it’s going with me on the airplane and HMSC would packed the order up for me to carry on. What great customer service! I know that there are people who just like to go out and eat cooked miso butterfish from a restaurant, but there is just something about eating charred skin hot off the hibachi or grill butterfish! «Flakin Frickin Good! There are three sizes: 1−½lb(2 – 3 lg pcs) $ 29 2lb(4 – 6 lg pcs) $ 39 4lb(7 – 8 lg pcs) $ 70 ****Remember**** *Business is Local Family owned Established in 1936. *Respect that this not a retail business. *Knock on the office marked door if nobody is around.(lol!) *Prices and amount of pieces may vary depending on availability. *Again Please Call Ahead to Order. **CASH or CHECKONLY** *Hours: Mon-Fri 9:00am-4:30pm.
