Japanese noodles restaurant’s owner showed very bad and crazy attitude when customers wanted a clarification. Noodles amount is small not enough for an adult. It was not explained the reason why cannot add noodles when the noodles were served even with added price. Terrible experience.

Polite service. Unfortunately the quality of the ramen was on par with a decent heat and eat ramen from 7 – 11. To be honest I would have been just as satisfied with a spicy ramen bowl and some goyoza from 7 – 11 as at the restaurant. It would have been less than half the cost and less than half the time and been as good or better than the food in the restaurant. It takes a special product to differentiate a restaurant from the rest and unfortunately this location isn’t up to the task. Basically I wasted ~$ 20 on heat and eat quality ramen with no ambiance to speak of. Bummer. Should have rocked the 7 – 11 heat and eat instead of wasting my money on a barely adequate restaurant. Sucks to be be me tonight but they won’t fool me again.

I have been going to this place since they have been opened. This was the first place I had Tan Tan Ramen. A spicy ramen with sesame seed flavours. The consistency of this from the first time I had this hasn’t changed from this visit. 3 pieces of tender cha-siu, not thick like other places, balanced out this dish to make it a hearty lunch. My girlfriend ordered the Wakame Ramen and it was delicious. Again cha-siu and bok complimented this ramen dish as well. The dashi(stock broth) for both dishes are excellent here and I would recommend this ramen house to everyone.

Found this place because we wanted to see how many more ramen places we have yet to try here on the island. Noticed a few people called it the best ramen in Honolulu… It’s good, but I wouldn’t call it the best. The tan tan was rich and i really liked it, as well as their spicy sour broth. Portion was average, but we walked out still hungry lol. We’re used to a bowl full of ramen noodles and this place didn’t really meet that standard, but that’s just us and our big appetite haha. Boyfriend ended up ordering a side of char-siu rice for $ 2 and still didn’t leave with a full stomach! Lol

With all these new ramen shops opening up, Gomaichi is still the best! I love how fresh their noodles taste and I absolutely LOVE the gyoza here. And the broth? To die for. So rich in flavor

Love, love, love the staff and the food is absolutely delicious! Since I come to the Islands a lot for work, I always ask the locals for their favorite restaurants. The other night I was Jonesing for ramen and my client said, ‘trust me, go to Gomaichi.’ So I did, and it was just yummy! The Zasai Tan Tan was perfect with its accompanied sides of wonderfully sauteed veggies and meat. And the Gyoza were surprisingly light, but packed with flavor. But without a doubt, it was the staff who were just a delight. They knew I didn’t have too much time before my next meeting, and they made sure that I was well fed, but out the door on time.

Hands down one of my all time favorite saimin places, my wife and I eat here all the time. Charsiu Tantan with extra noodle is the sleeper with the side gyoza. The owner is really sweet and the service is excellent and the prices are reasonable.

There isn’t much to say about this place except for the fact that it is almost identical to Gomatei(noodles, broth, styles of ramen, things on the menu ect). The only main difference is the portions are slightly smaller and they don’t put choy sum in their ramen. Gomaichi also has a smaller menu as well. If I were to think my night over, I would have went to Gomatei instead.

I went here last night for the first time with my bf and got the zasai tan tan men. Food 2 stars The ramen was nothing special. The broth was surprisingly sour, which I didn’t like or dislike. I was disappointed with the portion of bamboo and ground meat served, not much at all. I have a small appetite so I took half home, per usual. When I ate the leftovers for lunch today, I was surprised that the soup didn’t improve and gain complexity. The gyoza tasted like the frozen kind you buy at the grocery store – no flavor. Service 4 stars There were supposed to be two floor staff, but one was out so service was slow. However, I could tell the cashier/waitress was trying her best. The reason I’m giving four stars for service is that the waitress actually separated the noodles and broth into separate containers, preserving the noodles! I’ve been to many ramen shops and this is the only place I’ve found so far on Oahu that does this.

Good ramen place. Broth has a lot of flavor. Counter space is small but I went during an off time and day of the week. Got seated right away, however, the parking situation… well, you’d have to pay for parking or get street parking somewhere

With so many Ramen shops opening up in every town at every corner these past years, one might forget that Gomaichi is one of the cornerstones of Japanese Ramen in Hawaii having opened its doors 20 years ago, and the first to offer Tan Tan Men. After so many years, Gomaichi has stayed the same and still consistently puts out excellent ramen and delicious broth. This is the place to get the original Tan Tan men, and it is where I began my Ramen journey many years ago. Sadly, I’ve been neglecting this place to try all the new Ramen places that seems to open every few months. After having Tan Tan at another place, I knew I had to return to where it all started. The Wakame Tan Tan Men is my personal favorite, mainly because of the natural umami flavor the wakame adds, and I’m an egg fanatic. :) I’ve had this numerous times, and it is always consistent. The ramen noodle is excellent! It is specifically made by Sun Noodle just for Gomaichi. The noodle is nicely settled between firm and soft, and it has a good texture that goes perfectly with the broth. Speaking about the broth, the Tan Tan broth is delicious! You can smell the broth right when it arrives on your table. This broth is thin and clean, and straight-forward and subtle, but it still brings the flavor! Compared to other places, the tanginess is more pronounced, which more so complements the nuttiness of the sesame than as an side addition or small enhancement flavor, such as the earthiness of the wakame, in the broth. Even though, the egg is hard boiled, it is still very good. The marinade and seasoning is well-balanced and not overpowering. The Char Siu Tan Tan is my second favorite. The meat is thin, lean, and adds a nice heartiness to the broth. I didn’t care much for the chicken because it will get tough if it sits in the broth for too long and it lacked taste. I prefer the Ban Ban Ji Chicken with the super tasty and thick sesame sauce! The Zasai I feel the same, the minced pork and preserved vegetables made the broth more oily and didn’t have the strong flavors that I’m used to. It definitely adds the crunchy element though. The gyoza is how gyoza should be: tasty pork and vegetable filling with nicely wrapped thin wrappers that is fried golden brown! Out of all the times I’ve had the Gyoza here, only once did it disappoint. And that was due to bland and lack of filling. Overall, I always enjoy eating ramen and gyoza here. The service is always friendly and attentive and very on point. The food always comes out quick. This is one of those old school, traditional Ramen places that hasn’t changed(besides the prices!) since the beginning and will never change because it doesn’t need to. It has already perfected the ramen noodle and perfected broth. Each time I enter Gomaichi, I feel comfortable. The place is small and cozy, and it’s always clean and organized. You can feel the authenticity and feel the tradition. It’s mostly bar seating with about 12 seats and four 4-person tables. Lets set the record straight here: Gomaichi is the original, and Goma Tei is the knockoff. Goma Tei is opened by brothers, who were former partners in Gomaichi, ten years ago. I’ve had Goma Tei at Ala Moana it tasted like fast food because the broth had no depth in flavor and tasted like those MSG-filled instant ramen seasoning packets, and the ramen was way overcooked and soft. A close friend, who’s opinion is revered and respected by many, recently tried Goma Tei at the newly opened Kahala location, and he shares the same sentiment as well. He even tried it twice to make sure! Shame on him! You can’t beat the original.

Still one of my fave for ramen… I always get the Zasai Tan Tan with extra noodles and Gyoza. My wife swears that this is the best Gyoza… And I have to agree that it’s really tasty. It has a nice ginger flavor to it. We are always greeted nicely and the food and service shows an authentic Japanese style that I really appreciate. They’re no flashy or fancy ramen, just good old fashion ramen that I enjoy.

When we had the«cold snap» a few weeks ago, hot ramen was about all I could think about eating when we were out & about. It was chilly! The Charsiu Tan Tan ramen at Gomaichi came up really fast, and the server was really nice. I’m one to not always slurp up all the soup with my ramen, as many times it’s not very flavorful, or it tastes as if it might have msg in it. I sipped up every last spoonful of my bowl at Gomaichi. Oishi, and no msg coma after!

Tasty little hole-in-the-wall ramen shop. There are really only three options here for ramen soup bases: tan tan men, shoyu, and sung han men. That’s not a bad thing, though. It allows them to do those few options very well, and Gomaichi is able to do an entirely serviceable bowl of ramen in an otherwise extremely competitive ramen market. The gyoza, on the other hand, were meh. Some reviewers seem to have commented that the portions were too small, but I’d be inclined to disagree. There’s plenty of food in your bowl, and I’m personally a fan of the zasai ramen. One other thing — the parking lot by the restaurant is fairly petite, but if you park across in the Walmart lot, you’ll be fine.

Came to check it out cus I heard it was better the gomotei . The place was alot less busy and got a seat right away. Ordered the tan Tan ramen with dumplings and loved it. So much flavor in the broth. The service was quick too. If u want good ramen in oahu, then check this place out for sure. It wins in the ramen department

Personally, this is one of my fave ramen places here on the island. I’ve tried a handful of places but the tan tan ramen here is my fave because the ramen is good, the broth is flavorful and the meat is cooked perfectly and not too thick/overwhelming, and not too small and skimpy. It’s very simple but flavorful, and also not too greasy or oily. Also, I like that it’s not crowded and whenever I come here there’s never a wait. OMG, and can I just comment on their excellent choice of music??? They play old school r&b songs from back in the 90s/early 2000s etc. OMG, brought me back to my high school days. I literally found myself pulling out my phone and taking notes of all the songs that were played to add onto our wedding song play list. LOL. Sooo awesome! As for parking, I’m not sure where the best place to park is, but I always find myself parking at the Wal Mart parking lot and then crossing the street to come eat here. It’s probably not the right thing to do but we always end up buying something at Wal-Mart anyway, either before or after our meal, so that we’re not parking illegally.

I used to love Gomaichi years ago back when it was the only decent ramen joint on the island. Since then though, Goma Tei and Santouka have moved in and they definitely dominate the scene now. I couldn’t write a review about Gomaichi without making a direct comparison to Goma Tei, which I believe is the offshoot of Goma Tei. I don’t know how much truth there is to it, but I recall being told that the owners of Gomaichi split apart long ago and one of them went off to start Goma Tei. If that is true, it would explain why the two places have almost identical menus and style. The problem here is that while Goma Tei innovated and improved on their menu in almost every way, Gomaichi changed nothing over the years. So while it might appear that what they offer is similar, the reality is that Goma Tei has much better broth, char siu, noodles, gyoza, etc. The tantan broth simply doesn’t match up to Goma Tei’s. It’s not nearly as hearty, oily, spicy or sesame tasting in comparison. The char siu Gomaichi serves is so much thinner and less flavorful than Goma Tei’s. The noodles are a bit thinner, but I guess it could be considered a toss up in this area. The gyoza is simply not as large, crispy or delicious. Overall, Gomaichi needs to step up it’s game. It is simply outclassed as it stands now. If you’re looking for this style of ramen there is no reason not to head over to it’s direct competition just blocks away in Ala Moana or Ward. In other words, «I’ve experienced better».
