The food was excellent the service was outstanding the prices not so much… the food I noticed that it was very well balanced and the service was excellent one of the best servers I have been a long time however I felt it was little overpriced an example of overpriced part is the salad that we enjoyed was $ 16 I felt it should be closer to $ 10. I am astonished that people are leaving negative reviews this restaurant was very good and well worth going to we will be going back again.

Visited a few weeks ago and was surprised as to no other cars in the parking lot. Friday Night you would think it would be a little busy. We were the only ones there. Should have taken that as an indication of how the restaurant might be. First of all, with a name like burgundy you better make sure your staff is knowledgeable in the wine category. The French waiter didn’t even know what Riedel Wine glasses are. He kept making suggestions for the wine pairing but was totally wrong with my food and I finally had to say no thank you to any of his suggestions. If you don’t know what Riedel Wine glasses are, which is basic, you have no business trying to pair the wine menu to the food. He must have felt frustrated because I never saw him again. The Lamb was great and I definitely recommend bringing your own Cabernet to go along with it. I think this place has potential, just the staff needs to be trained better. I would recommend having the local food server replace the french waiter. He is not as stuffy and seems nicer and more attentive to our needs.

Actually, more like 2.5 stars. But still, this is not a restaurant to which I would return. Unlike many of the reviewers, I did not experience any lapse in service. In fact, it was quite the opposite and the waitress and the manager were on top of things. But then again, there was only one other table to handle besides us. For me, the food is always the star. I can put up with crappy ambiance, less than stellar service, and higher than average prices if the cuisine is phenomenal. Unfortunately, the meals here are not stars and instead are B-list celebrities. Foie Gras pâté — tasted very much like ordinary liver pâté out of a can. Quiche — was a piece cut out of a pie that was pre-cooked then warmed, not made to order… a little surprising for a fine dining eatery. This dish wasn’t bad. Lamb — extremely gamey to the point where it was barely edible even for someone who likes lamb as much as I do. I wonder how long this slab of meat has been sitting in their fridge. Beef Bourguignon — quite tasty actually. Pomme Frites — ummm… french fries were good, but it doesn’t take a Michelin Star chef to fry some up. Their French wine selection was limited, but the two that we tried were excellent. It definitely helped some of the fare become more palatable. I’m not sure returning here in a few months as others have suggested would improve upon anything unless they changed their head chef and their menu.

I went to see if they worked out the kinks and I think so. But they only had a some diners as aposed to a packed house. I took some advice from fellow Unilocal members and tried the escargot and it sure was good. It wasn’t too rich with butter, but a tasty balance. My entrée was the«regular» sized lamb chops. This consists of a 4 rib serving with a slight crust of a french cheese(french server said)…sorry I didn’t listen as I was trying hard to listen for the name. But it was a strong cheese, bleu like cheese. Though it was tasty, they forgot to put salt and pepper to this nice cut of lamb. The french server had a hard time scooping the ratatouille into the bowl with a fork/spoon one handed way… forgot the terminology. I think for the price, the food was very decent, but the wine by the glass was over priced. I liked that I read the«corkage» fee was only $ 10. Oh and the place looks like a nice place to eat at. They also have a private dining room for about 8 people.

I can definately say that this place is worth dining at. My boss is hoping that Burgundy survives longer than the two previous resturaunts at this location. Parking is limited, but if you don’t mind strolling half a block street parking is avalible. I am looking forward to the next visit!

My husband and I tried this for the first time last night. I’m glad that I didn’t read some of the reviews here before we went or else we might have missed out on a really good meal. I ordered the beef bourguignon with the ratatouille and both were delicious. My husband had the lobster dish and he said that it was also delicious but there wasn’t enough of it for him. For dessert, we had the flan and the pear dessert. Again, both excellent. The service was great as we were the only ones in the restaurant.

I have found a hidden treasure! To be up front, I read the other reviews and decided that the three worst reviews seemed to have come from the same table on the same night so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I wanted to give Burgundy a try anyway. I was NOT disappointed, nor were the other two people with me. We pretty much covered the menu between the three of us. We started with the Parma ham, shaved at the table by John, the GM. Followed that with the cheese plate, six cheeses, all worthy of being on the menu of a good French restaurant. The honey accompaniment for the bleu cheese is a nice touch. Next we tried the Nicoise salad, the tomato salad and the foie gras pâté. All were well prepared and once the fatty cap on the pâté warmed to room temperature, it topped off probably the best fois gras pâté I have ever had. The t-bone steak was prepared to the temperature I requested, the beef bourguinon was a melt in your mouth preparation on a bedd of mashed potatoes. The Preserved Chicken was moist and flavorful. Each of the entrees also came with a side, the ratatouille was crisp with clean layers of flavor, not just vegetables and tomatoes cooked together and called a ratatouille. We finsihed up with dessert, the mango tart is reminiscent of European pastry, not overly sweet but packed with flavor. The chocolate mousse was incredibly light, made in the restaurant with an obviously quality chocolate. The sorbet created the perfect balance with the chocolate.(our server knew the % of cocoa in the chocolate AND where it was from!) The service was responsive without being oppressive. I will definitely return, next time I’m running down the seafood side of the menu. Give them a chance, I’m sure glad I did.

When they tell you to let it breathe — you should listen. This brand new restaurant(Old Wasabi Bistro location) opened about a month ago. We thought they would have worked out the kinks, me thinks not. The wait staff were friendly yet uneducated on the product, food and wine. The waiter didn’t know very much about anything. For example: he didn’t know the cheeses served on the cheese appetizer sampler and couldn’t say what kind of tomatoes were on the tomato salad… then didn’t know where the tomatoes were from. Minor details like that can hurt you. And it didn’t matter that we were having dinner with a food writer and a food blogger apparently. The service was mediocre to bad. I poured my own wine the entire night. Portions were small and flavor was lacking. We had to ask for salt and pepper because everything was under seasoned. Overall, I would say give this joint about a year before dining there. If they make it through then maybe give it a go.

My wife decided last minute to have a nice dinner with her mom on Mother’s Day. Looking through available restuarants with reasonable seating times, we settled on Fine Dining Burgundy because it was in a convenient location and could seat us at any time we selected. Before we left the house, I decided to check the Unilocal reviews to see if there were any specialty dishes that I should order or any items that I should avoid. I was worried when I saw the two star ratings and read some of the other reviews, but we were already headed there so we decided to give it a shot. Upon arriving we were pleasantly surprised by the free valet parking and the simple but attractive exterior. Entering the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated on the patio. The furnishings are nice, and the overall atmosphere was very relaxed with nice classical music and a soft breeze coming through the open-air patio. The tables looked fancy in their black tablecloths, and we were presented with menus immediately upon sitting. That was when they made their first significant mistake – they provided only four menus for the five of us and never came back to provide a fifth menu, nor did they provide another menu when a sixth person joined our group. We ordered appetizers while everyone perused the menus, and I picked a bottle of wine. The appetizers were quite tasty and well portioned – we had the mushroom quiche, the tomato salad, and the pâté of foie gras. When the wine came the waiter brought a more expensive bottle by the same winemaker, a move that I caught and corrected without any fuss. The wine, a burgundy, was nice and paired well with the appetizers. For the main dishes we were less impressed. I ordered a half-rack of lamb which was okay but nothing special. My wife ordered the T-bone steak which was good, but they cut the meat off the bone and didn’t leave the bone(which is the best part!!!). The mussels looked great, the beef burgundy was spectacularly tiny, and the chicken was mundane. Overall the food and service were okay, but definitely not fine dining. While I admit that there are $ 8 plate lunches I would rate as 5-stars, the context is different when you are paying $ 40 per person for a meal. Fine Dining Burgundy needs to pick up their game or they will join the ranks of other mediocre restaurants that have failed in Honolulu.

A very clumsy effort for a new restaurant but there is potential. Burgundian food is tethered to the Earth. You should taste the terrior in every ingredient: Charolais beef, truffles, escargot, Dijon mustard, cheeses, and the greatest examples of pinot noir and chardonnay in the world. In 2012, the region boast 24 Michelin started restaurants including three, with three stars. Excited yet? Unfortunately, Fine Dining Burgundy fails to deliver the authentic flavors or dining experience of Burgundy. The lack of authenticity aside(lamb and lobsters are not Burgundian ingredients) the dishes tasted have potential. For a starter, escargot. The first order was overcooked, desiccated, and burnt under a broiler. The replacement was much better although there was no zing of acidity from being poached in wine(was this traditional step omitted?) The«beef bourguignon» was well cooked. The dish was lightly perfumed with the essence of wine and herbs. The beef well braised, moist and not stringy. My issue is the lack of respect demonstrated by the kitchen for food and customers. Mistakes should stay in the kitchen. There is no excuse serving burnt escargot when it is obvious that the dish itself has turned black. Service is very slow and forced.(1) The kitchen does not time dishes well resulting in unusually long wait times between courses.(2) The performance of the servers is not relaxed. There is a palpable tension in the dining room as if they know wait times are too long. Additionally, needs are not anticipated(it’s very difficult to eat without a fork). Hopefully this improves with time. The wine list is a disappointment especially considering the name of the restaurant. My Parisian chef /bud is quick to remind me «a meal without wine is like a night without sex». Nuff said. BOTTOMLINE: Give it a few months before visiting.

You know how they say«Never judge a book by its cover, or you might miss out on an amazing story?» –our evening at Burgundy was QUITE the story – let me tell you … Hungry. Starving. Slowly withering away while sitting at home… Alas, Cin T turns the page of a newspaper and spots an advertisement for a new Fine Dining French Restaurant in Kapahulu: «GRANDOPENING Fine Dining Burgundy… Taste our Signature Rack of Lamb!» If the words fine dining didn’t get us excited enough… just the name Burgundy sounded fantastic! We make reservations for 8PM, but arrive slightly early to deal with the limited parking and to have at least a glass of wine before dinner. Minus the terribly small parking lot, Burgundy’s exterior is rather breathtaking if you don’t mind a huge vinyl banner screaming«GRANDOPENING»…the front door etched with a beautiful floral design was cracked slightly to let some of the outdoor breeze to flow through the restaurant. The dark wood and soft glow of the track lights outside gave this restaurant a cozy feel. The moment you step inside of Burgundy you automatically get a feel of how«well-kept» and«ordered» everything is. Dark hues of red surround you, place settings are set at every table, with beautifully folded napkins – you take everything in as a whole and realize this place is definitely«fancy»(The cover of the book). We get seated for dinner. 5 minutes later… no server… 20 minutes later… no server… no water… no fork for our friend Kammi… We call over the Host, Ryan(bless his heart), and ask him if he knew where our server was? He immediately apologized for the inconvenience and went to get Kammi a fork for her place setting. John immediately sent Becca to serve us regardless of Sheryl whom was suppose to take care of us. We order 3 appetizers: Escargot, Quiche and«Pork Ice Cream» as I called it aka Pork Rillette.(Please check out Cin T’s review as she goes more in to detail with our food items: ) Our appetizers arrive rather quickly… the escargot and mushroom quiche is absolutely divine. The taste is exquisite and delicious; I just wish they gave a bit more(then again, this is a FRENCH restaurant.) The Pork Rillette is something your taste buds really need to get used to… it’s like tuna and crackers, but with pork instead. Not going to lie, by the time I was on my 3rd cracker – I was kind of addicted to this dish. OK. Minus 20 minutes, everything seems to be turning around after eating those dishes. I’m ready for more! 15 minutes later… no entrée… BUT Ryan comes around and makes sure our water is filled to the rim 20 minutes later… no entrée… BUT Ryan comes around and apologizes for the wait noticing our irritableness is starting to kick in again… he continues to serve us more water…**Please note RYAN is NOT our server, but the host of the restaurant** 30 minutes later… Becca comes by to tell me they’ve ran out of T-bone steak and I would need to order another entrée. Fail. **Okay. Pause. I don’t own a restaurant, nor have I ever worked in the food industry – but I have NEVER gone to a restaurant, ordered something and nearly 20+ minutes later get told that my dish isn’t available… that is something, as a restaurant, you SHOULDKNOW within 5 minutes of me ordering my meal– you want to call yourself FINEDINING and provide exceptional service?** I brush it off and order the Rack of Lamb… 45 minutes for Kammi to get her cold Beef Bourguignon. If it weren’t cold – this dish would be a winner. Bourguignon? No. Was it tender beef on mash? Yes. 50 Minutes later Cin T gets her fishy, smells-like-sea-ASS lobster that was obviously not fresh. 1 hour later I finally get my rack of lamb rolled out to me, cut in front of me and then tossed into a bowl. Completely not necessary, please just cut in the kitchen and serve it to me beautifully, not thrown into a bowl in front of me. AND cooked at the wrong temperature. I asked for medium rare – Im pretty sure I got rare. The middle of my lamb was still cold. Break Down: –Bad Service. If it weren’t for Ryan, the experience would have been worst. –John, the Manager, needs to keep his staff calm and motivated. By the end of the night I believe Sheryl was on the verge of crying. And Ryan didn’t deserve an ounce of being disparaged. –Sheryl. CALMTHE F%!@ down. BREATHEGIRL! You can do this! We all have bad days! I look forward to coming back to Burgundy once they’ve worked out all the kinks. They have ALL the necessary tools to become extremely successful, but they’ve got some much needed work to do. I look forward to changing this review in a year. Until then, this book is closed and will be put on the top shelf for next year.

Our dining experience last night was a huge disappointment(grand opening was April 12, so no excuses). Mainly due to service, partly due to food execution. 1) All entrees arrived at different times. All were cold or at room temp. 2) Kenny F. didn’t get his rack of lamb until the rest of us were already halfway through w/our entrees. When it did finally arrive, it was cold in the center and very rare. 3) We made friends w/the table next to us and exchanged stories about our discontent over the food & service. They didn’t even get the side dishes that was included w/their entrees. I alerted the servers, who then said that they would wrap up the couple’s side dishes to take home since they were done w/their entrees. ***I want to point out that if it wasn’t for Ryan(front of house), we would’ve walked*** Ryan is a server, but was placed in the front of house to greet patrons last night. He was so sincere and helpful throughout our service. He checked on us regularly to see how we were doing throughout our dinner, since our table was right by his station. Much to our dismay, he was unjustly scolded by the Manager for trying to help customers out. Yes, we heard everything from where we were sitting. Ryan should be praised for his service last night. He got us menus and water(even constantly refilling our water). Ask for him when you make your reservations. We arrived early for our 8pm reservation, killed some time at their bar. Our 1st server Sheryl greeted us at the bar to introduce herself & said that she will be our server later during our meal. We never saw her again, she was replaced w/another server. Once seated at our table, we were left alone for 20 mins. With no menu, no water, or bread. Out of the 4 place settings, 2 were missing forks. Ryan came to our rescue again w/a fork. QUICHEAUCHAMPIGNON/MUSHROOM QUICHE($ 8.50): YUM! A tasty mixture of cremini, portobello, spinach & onions, enhanced w/truffle oil. Sadly for $ 8.50, we only got a tiny 2×4 inch slice(and a handful of salad). ESCARGOTBURUGINION/BOURGINON($ 14): Cremini mushrooms and snails swimming in a garlic-parsley butter sauce, served w/crostinis. Cremini(left) and overcooked shriveled up snails(right): RILLETESDEPORC/PORK RILLETE($ 7.50): Salted pork cooked in herbs & fat/lard, made into a pâté. The French call it «pig jam» and it’s a usually served alongside olives or pickled cornichons to help counter the richness of this appetizer. We only got crostinis. ***Olives and cornichons are avail for an additional $ 4*** There’s 2 seafood entrees and 3 beef entrees avail on menu. HOMARDRÔTIR A LANAGE«PAMPLEMOUSSE”/Roasted Lobster w/a french grapefruit nage($ 27): ½ a lobster tail & a single lobster claw, served w/a few pieces grapefruit swimming in a poaching liquid/nage. Not much lobster meat for $ 27 pricetag. The worst part was that it arrived cold & overcooked. Kenny F. said that it tasted«fishy, not fresh», I agree. BEOUF/BEEF BOURGUIGNON($ 14): I’ve cooked Beef Burgundy/Bourguignon a few times, so I was looking forward to this hearty dish. I was expecting to see a bowl of braised/stewed beef w/pearl onions, carrots and mushrooms. Another disappointment. Never had Beef Burgundy w/mashed potatoes before: COTELETTE D’AGNEAURÔTIR A LAROQUEFORT/LAMB ROSTED W/ROQUEFORT($ 25): They forgot Kenny’s lamb. This was done on the fly, wrong doneness(was raw!) ANDTHEYFORGOTTHEROQUEFORT part of the dish. Just a grilled rack of lamb. Sides are limited to 3 items or «Garniture”/add-on garnishes. ***All meat entrees(t-bone, lamb and beef bourguignon) comes w/choice of these items for free*** 1) RATATOUILLE($ 7.50): Hearty vegetable stew usually consisting of tomatoes, eggplants, zucchini and bell peppers. 2) GRATIN A LADAUPHINOISE($ 7.50): The usual thinly sliced potatoes layered in a creamy cheesy butter sauce. It was good, but nothing spectacular. 3) POMMEFRITES($ 4.50): Taste and texture very similar to the Zippy’s or Burger King Fries, but costs 4x as much.

Love the location. Lots of parking and visibility. Went there last night with a great friend of mind, Bob T who also enjoys great food, wine and conversation. Being new, it was quiet. We started off with champagne then moved on from light reds to heavy. All exceptionally well balanced not heavy on the tannins, just easy drinking. You got to try their Foie Gras pâté. Great starter with the champagne. Bob had the T Bone steak done medium. What a tender steak. One of the best he had, tried a piece. Great! I had a Braised shortribs with mash potatoes. Nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing to brag about. For starch, it came with Plate of scalloped potatoes. Would certainly go back again and will try the Rack of Lamb the next time.
