Reminds me of a set menu from Asia, with different choices under a price category. In each set menu you can choose soup or salad, appetizer, entrée from a list, and any dessert you can choose from the dessert showcase. Very well worth it! I had the more expensive set at $ 32.95 and had the Baked Lamb Wellington. The cream of corn soup was watered down but served in a cup, for sipping. The appetizer I choose was the baked lobster avocado. It was so yummy! The breading for the wellington was made with perfection with a very nice sauce. I choose the signature dessert chocolate pyramid — it was very sweet and a little bitter and you will need something to wash it down. Someone on the table ordered the citrus tart which I thought was very refreshing. Will try this place again!

I visited Jj’s yesterday because a friend of mine had a gift certificate. It was my first time visiting and I had the lilikoi and blueberries cheesecake. I had some of their chocolate pyramid and guave cheesecake. I loved it I Will be coming back in the future.

We ate the lunch special today that was a curry dish that cost $ 17 for fish, $ 15 for shrimp, $ 13 for chicken. It was served in a small bowl with rice on the side. The fish was not good and tasted watered down or like it had no flavor. Also, they did not give very much food. If this had cost $ 10, I would have felt ripped off. But we paid $ 17 and feel like we were cheated and ripped off. My wife had the shrimp special that tastes better, but $ 15 for very little food is a joke, especially when they call that a special. The dinner prices were the same as lunch and we should have done that. I am sure it would have been better. In any event, we will never go back. Maybe this is a nice place to go if you just want to eat desert. They have lots to choose from. So eat dinner somewhere else and get desert here.

I had dinner here this evening. The soup was delicious-corn with crab. The appetizer I chose was the duck pâté with French bread and a salad. It was great. I ordered the Fishermans stew for dinner. It would have been perfect had it not arrived one minute after my appetizer. I was very disappointed and made it known to the waitress. She offered to keep my dinner hot in the kitchen. I declined because I didn’t want it to become over cooked. Needless to say by the time I got to eating my dinner it was cold. The dessert I chose was the«Le Café». It was just okay. I only took a few bites. It was a coffee mouse on top of lady fingers. I thought it was dry and too dense. Had dinner here again and I am obliged to up the stars and the review. The restaurant was very gracious about switching out ingredients in a dish to satisfy the customer. All three dishes were delicious and everyone was very happy. It’s one of the few restaurants that has BYOB without a corkage fee. I will be dining there again this evening and I hope it all goes as well.

This is for my experience that I had back in January. Really disappointed and surprised that the owner would treat his customer like this. — — — Five stars for the desserts, two stars for the dinner entrées, one star for the service given from the owner(Praseuth Luangkhot), and one star for overall experience. I came here on a week night back in January. Lets start with the only favorable factor of JJ Pastry and Bistro, which hands down is their desserts. They have a great selection of sweets to satisfy your likes. To name a few there is the gluten free chocolate pyramid, pecan cheesecake, guava cheesecake, fruit basket, chocolate lilikoi… simply too many to choose from. I tried the garlic shrimp a la maison(garlic shrimp, eggplant, bamboo, red bell peppers, zucchini in light green curry sauce) for $ 15.95. It sounded delicious, but tasted bleh and was a real disappointment. The«light» green curry sauce overpowered the entire entrée. I love spicy food, but didn’t expect this when«light» was worded into the entrée description. In addition for an entrée, the size of the meal seemed more like an appetizer. Not to mention the size of the shrimps. They were small and should be used in a salad or blended up and used as shrimp sauce. Ordering of the food is done at the counter. You prepay for your meal and the food will be delivered to you. Why the one star for the service I received from the owner Praseuth Luangkhot? I initially ordered two desserts and attempted to pay with a Groupon. Even though no where in the Groupon did it say it couldn’t be applied to desserts he charged a credit card on the counter thinking it was mine without the owner’s approval. Then he stated he couldn’t refund the credit card because the transaction was already rung up… BS !!! Well Praseuth Luangkhot the joke is on you because you charged another customer’s credit card for the transaction and not mine… lol. He back peddled, saw his mistake, and canceled the credit card transaction. I’m a businessman too and love money, but this is highway robbery. About the Groupon according to Praseuth Luangkhot, who made up his own verbal fine print, it can only be used on dinner menu items. No problem at all as I just wished it was stated on the Groupon and not made up on the fly. I don’t plan on returning.

We had a great time. Terrific service! My food was great. BYOB Baby and delectable desserts! Some comments about portion size and lamb being overcooked but my friends wouldn’t be happy unless they can grouse about something. Otherwise, a good time was had by all!

This place is mostly know for their pastries. If you want to give someone a mouth watering dessert for their birthday, get the chocolate mousse pyramid. It comes in different size and it is TODIEFOR! I am giving them 5 stars for their CHOCOLATEMOUSSEPYRAMID(pastry side), not for their restaurant.

We got parking easily in back of the building. A little confusing but were able to make our way through the back to the front. It was a bit strange to see things from Egypt and Thailand in a French restaurant. Well, we just looked past it all focusing on the mission to look and try these wonderful desserts. Service was pleasant, a little mechanical, but nice. As you’re looking at the wonderful, beautifully decorated pastries, the young man has one laptap to the right of him with a screen showing all the pastries they have like icons on your windows. We’re talking to him asking questions he answers knowledgeably. As we order he touches the item on the screen. The item then appears on a iPad where the register would be to our right. Prices appear with the item picture subtotaling as we go. Fascinatiing. The pastries are a work of art. They increase the excitement and anticipation of actually tasting these things of beauty. We get a little carried away but those okay. My sweet tooth is satisfied. The chocolate pyramid with raspberry was delicious. You could actually taste the raspberry come through the overpowering chocolate flavor. Well, that’s all I tasted so far. Saving the rest for later today. Can you say :“Happy Happy Joy Joy!!”? LoL

The bad: the soft shell crab is way tastier and half the price at Genki. Prices are a bit high for the quantity. The fettuccine was ok but I wish they’d at least give a piece of bread with it. Street parking. The good: The wait help are friendly. Fast seating. Nice atmosphere. The desserts are good.

We came here for a lunch and I’ve never been disappointed — either with the take-out, or the dining-in experience. This time, we decided to eat in. The Interior is intimate and quaint. I decided to order the Parisien starter, of duck mousse with slices of French bread. This has always been a starter for me ever since I decided to try it the first time. Today I decided to order the Pâté Chaude; it’s a great dish of pork and onion, baked in a flaky puffed pastry served over a salad with a flavorful dressing, that I just love dipping the pastry into before eating it. With every sitting here, I’ve always tried something different with the massive selection of desserts — from the Green tea cheesecake, to the Tiramisu, to their signature Double-J chocolate. Each one is a different expression of great sweetness, and whatever you feel like picking makes your day that much better. I will definitely be back! I don’t care if I go by myself. I am a fan!

This place a absolutely underrated and definitely needs more attentions from the public. I think discovered this place through groupon and looked it up on Unilocal. It immediately caught my attention once I saw a picture of the chocolate pyramid. I came here on Valentine’s night with my boyfriend, around 9:30pm. Sadly the kitchen was already closed so we weren’t able to order food. We could only have dessert at the time. Upon walking in, you definitely get a sense of cozyness in there. It’s very nice and quaint. I was a little lost also, because I was not greeted by any of the staff at first and wasn’t to sure if we wait to be seated or not, we were actually just awkwardly standing there waiting. Luckily they had their little dessert display case right at the front to look at and they all looked amazing! We literally had such a hard time deciding, because they looked so good! At first I thought they had ran out of the chocolate pyramid, but luckily they had more in the back. My boyfriend got the white chocolate mousse. If you don’t like bittersweet chocolate then you probably wouldn’t enjoy the chocolate pyramid. I thought it was amazingly rich. The base of the pyramid was a regular chocolate cake which was ok, nothing too special. The white chocolate mouse was super good too. The mouse was a thick but still a little fluffy consistency, and even had a strawberry in the middle as well. We tried using the $ 5 coupon they offer but apparently it doesn’t apply towards holidays, which does not say anywhere in the terms or restrictions. Overall we are really looking forward to coming here again to try more of their dessert

On a Friday evening, after finding a parking spot, dining here for the first time. A quaint ambience. The service was very friendly and attentive. The Laotian pot pie and the seafood pot pie were good! Unfortunately, the fettuccine entrée lacked taste. HOWEVER, the desserts were really good! The showcase was full of choices… the strawberry shortcake and the lilikoi cheesecake was good. The crème brûlée was not as light & creamy as I’ve usually had but very tasty. But the CHOCOLATEPYRAMID is a MUST! Definitely will return for dessert!

Four course dinners are a great value, smallish portion but leaves you just right for the star of the show, desserts! Food is fresh, clean and presentation is nice. Salmon was a piece of art. If children order pizza for dinner, you will probably still need to order an entrée, as they are about six inches. Pasta dishes are not mounds of carbs. All dishes are fresh but may need a bit more flavor for my liking. Deserts in the showcase are so delectable and so beautiful that it is just a treat to observe them. Raspberry pyramid was great not to sweet and very light! Tarts were good but not great. Go early for free parking in the back.

I was very disappointed with this place. I had the Baked Lobster Avocado appetizer and thought it had too much of a mayo taste to it that one bite was enough for me. The escargot appetizer on the other hand was totally flavorless. I thought the Seafood Pot Pie had some potential. The green curry was good but I wished there was more of it. The baked pastry that came with the dish was too flaky as it was very difficult to eat. Lastly, my Le Café dessert came with a brush bristle in it and something that resembled a worm. Though the waiter apologized and seemed thrilled to discover that it was indeed a bristle and not something else, I didn’t get an apology from JJ himself.

PASTRYHAVEN!!! Me and my bestie were walking past this place while they were closed so the next day we visited this place and OMG! If the display of the beautiful sweets dont attract your eyes then IDK what will. Right when you walk in your greeted and boom the dessert display, it took us 30 mins(No Joke) to decide what we wanted. The Staff there were so friendly and answered every question we asked and then some. Staff very knowledgable about the pastries, which make me question other places but thats on another review lol. Chocolate Raspberry Pyramid Dark Chocolate Cake, Real Raspberry filling, Covered in Ganache and Sprinkled with Coco Powder goodness. So… I dont like chocolate at all, but this is the only chocolate cake Ill eat. Not overwhelming or irritatingly sweet at all, so right they only thing missing was a glass of milk but this is something everyone should try. I encourage the movement of chocolate pyramids!!! And they also have various sizes so you can share the chocolate pyramid movement Vanilla Macaroon Very light and not sweet like how butter cream should be. I salute this wizards at JJs for having awesome hands. Fruit Tart Poppyseed Crust, meets pastry filling, topped off with madarian oranges, bananas, strawberries, blueberries and kiwi. So light and fruity and I feel like the poppy seed if that was made the crust much more desireable… Guava Cheesecake Cheesecake meets friendly guava layer topped with flavorful white chocolate square and fruits. Not like your traditional cheesecake which requires breaks in between because its too sweet. Im telling you this will CHANGEYOURSTANDARDSONDESSERT!!! You will see me soon JJs

Their pastries taste like they are store bought, the only thing that might be worth coming for us the chocolate pyramid. I also bought their groupon in early 2015 and when I came in today(12÷26÷15) they had changed their groupon rules to not accept take out orders and dessert only purchases. And I had done that with my other two groupons purchased for this store. If your business can’t afford to put out groupons and honor then then don’t put them out! I also do not appreciate being rudely told hat my groupon would not work. Bottom line never coming here again.

I used a Unilocal coupon($ 5 for $ 10 value) and got two desserts: a chocolate pyramid and a matcha mousse, both of which I shared with a friend. What a deal! The chocolate pyramid is a 5⁄5. Or I may be inclined to give it even more stars! It isn’t too sweet but it maintains a delicate decadence that I very much enjoy. The matcha mousse is a 3⁄5. I’m a matcha fan, so I’d love more of a matcha punch, but it was really the texture that threw me off a bit. I’d love to try their green tea cheesecake next! The décor and ambience was enjoyable, perfect for our small girl’s night out. 8/10, would recommend!

I recently enjoyed a trip to JJ Bistro just for desserts. I actually have yet to dine here, but if you’re looking for something small and elegant to satisfy your dessert cravings, JJ doesn’t disappoint. A few friends and I dropped by just for dessert after chowing down at Pioneer Saloon … and I came here on another occasion by myself. There’s always a great assortment of pastries to choose from. Everything is aesthetically pleasing, but be prepared to spend about $ 4 – 6 on your dessert(depending on what you like). Though street parking can sometimes be hard to find here, I was fortunate to get a stall right in front of the eatery. And, it wasn’t even crowded on a Thursday evening, so we got to sit immediately at one of the tables near the entrance. JJ’s is known for their«Chocolate Pyramid» dessert, and it’s one that I always do enjoy. It’s deliciously chocolaty, but it’s not overly sweet or overwhelming … to me, anyway. Here are some of the desserts I have tried so far: «Gluten Free Chocolate Pyramid»: One of my friends is gluten free so she’s thrilled that JJ’s has an option for her. Although I’m not gluten free, I wanted to try this dessert because it seemed to have an extra chocolate casing on the exterior. You can’t even tell the difference between this gluten free version and the original … at least, from my experience. The only difference is in the look. I really liked the gluten free version, and that’s coming from someone who enjoys the original«Chocolate Pyramid» as well. The dessert is still light and chocolaty, and it doesn’t disappoint. «Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake»: This dessert is especially popular around the holidays. I don’t like super strong pumpkin flavors, but this dessert was satisfactory because the pumpkin taste wasn’t overwhelming. I liked the subtle pumpkin flavor and the gooey, sweet pecans included in this circular cheesecake. It had just the right amount of sweetness and the marshmallow topping was actually a nice addition. I normally don’t like too much marshmallow on things; this amount was perfect. «Chocolate Pyramid»: Several of my other friends opted for the traditional«Chocolate Pyramid» during our dessert run, and this one never disappoints. I love the silky chocolate flavors and the lightness of the pyramid. It has a really unique texture that’s unlike any other. Because of the price, I wouldn’t get it all the time, but it’s nice to treat yourself to this delicacy once in a while. It’s almost too pretty to eat … almost. «New York Cheesecake Pyramid»: I never got this before, but just looking at it in the display case was making me hungry. If I can deviate from the«Gluten-Free Chocolate Pyramid» that I like so much, I definitely want to try this version. I love New York-style cheesecake, so I’m interested to try this flavor. While graham cracker crust is my favorite part of any cheesecake, I’m interested to see what this pyramid tastes like and I’m willing to forego that traditional crust to find out.

I’m very impressed with JJ French Pastry & Bistro, their professional service is exceptional, attentive, prompt & very friendly, the décor, the place does gives you the French feel having visited Paris, France myself. As we were seated, I scanned each page of their Menus, and it didn’t take me long what I wanted; they have a column«Chef Recommended» Four Course Dinner, and 4 different combinations, I’ve chosen their most expensive one, ha_ha, you’ll have to find out yourself and go visit them soon. To start, I opted for the green salad, for my appetizer, I ordered the«Escargot»,(it reminded me at the time we were in Paris, our host was whispering to me while looking at their Menu to try their Escargot, and I was smiling at my wife, and murmured, we have these plenty crawling in our backyard), for my main course, I ordered the«Double Poached Lobster Tail», very delicious, and finally for my dessert, I was invited to look through at their glass enclosed cakes display, there are so many to choose from, all pleasing to the eyes, I ended ordering the«Chocolate Pyramid». I think, I may have found a new place now for Fine Dining without the high price tag, and not just be confined at Waikiki or Downtown Honolulu. I can’t wait for my next visit and try all other French Cuisine Entrees, thanks Jj & Staffs for making my son’s birthday a very memorable celebration @ your Restaurant. Note: They don’t serve liquor but allow you to BYOB or run across the street at the liquor store. «Highly Recommended» ~ Jorge R. ~

Who are the miserable, impossible to please people that would rate this place one star, or anything less than five stars for that matter? I came here today because I had a Groupon and got the pork and onion pâté. It came with a salad with cute waffle cut cucumbers and this amazing dressing that made me say holymarymotherofgodthisiseffinggood!!! I got the pistachio cranberry cookies for dessert and they were wonderful. The service was friendly and fast. I was looking at all the dessert pastries in the glass, thinking in awe how talented the pastry chef was when I looked up and saw a billboard with a picture of the chef Praseuth Luangkhot, or JJ, and he was sitting there under the sign, humbly eating his lunch of rice and beans. We talked for a while and he was very nice. After going into an orgasmic overload over the taste while chomping down my to go order at the bus stop, I told a curious onlooker where i got this insanely good food, and i offered him the to go menu I’d grabbed… i didn’t need it because i knew I’d be back to get another one.

JJFRENCHPASTRY&BISTRO @3447WAIALAEAVE: Located across from where Champa Thai used to be. Established since 1995, French Laotian food. We have been a fan of their famous Pyramid chocolate for a long time. We had tried other sweets, here, not too excited but Pyramid is the best. One Pyramid is perfect for a couple. If you eat it alone, you might have a headache. I had lunch here a couple of times. I liked the experience but the potion is small for my liking. I had never tried their dinner yet. Too bad their Le Cacao Bistro is closed in a short time.

As a «menu-simple» fanatic I love the fact their list of meals to eat are few but most often that means they pay closer attention to quality and flavor control. For lunch they have wonderful sandwiches! A great lunch date idea, the meals are light, fresh and delicious(all sanwhiches are served on croissants or flaky French baked bread, super yum! This isn’t a big meal place obviously but if I’m starving I still get my appetite taken care of. my order is usually a salad, soup and a entrée along with a tasty dessert and a cappuccino or espresso and by the end I’m stuffed(I’m sure there is a organic psychology to the speed and stages of how you eat that make you feel fuller if you had eaten in courses rather than scarf a burger and fries). If you are a fan of sauces and dressings Mr JJ is a master of taste. Their salads and appetizers are great and sometimes I’ll order two appetizers for an entrée. And of course the French style dessert art has been captured in such a way that I would argue is the best on Oahu, don’t be shy, they are small so have two or seven. They also make sure to keep the barista skills up as well, lattes and cappuccinos are great :)

Writing a review on their pastries… I haven’t had a chance to dine here yet So my friend from Cali is visiting and wanted to try their pastries. Our luck, we get service by the pastry chef himself! The pastries are a little pricey, however, we had a coupon and all of it was mouth watering delicious and worth it. One of their popular treats is the chocolate pyramid. I chose the chocolate raspberry pyramid. Mmmmmmmmmmmm so light and tasty. I also tried their pecan tart. It was. Pretty good size tart. About the size of my palm. I enjoyed eating my own personalized size pecan pie :) I don’t remember my last dessert because I ended up giving it to my mom… And yes I ate two PARKING: Lots of street parking, or a small lot in back SERVICE: Friendly and accompanying… I felt welcome in there. PRICE: Price is a little pricey, but you pay for the quality… And you get quality. FOOD: I haven’t had the opportunity to try yet, but I’ll be back DESSERT: Nom Nom Nom delicious! ATMOSPHERE: cute, small, restaurant, good for an intimate lunch or dinner.

I remember eating here about 10 years ago, and the food was decent. I don’t know what happened here, but the result is sorely disappointing. We came here for a dinner party and ordered off the multi-course menu. I ordered the classic game hen and my boyfriend smartly opted for vegetarian food. The Classic Game Hen meal I ordered came with a starter soup, which was a creamy potato bisque type consistency which also featured clams. I wouldn’t call it a chowder, though. The soup was reliant on salt for its flavor. There was nothing interesting about the soup, but it wasn’t awful. Next came the second course, and I opted for crab cakes. I believe the other option was a lobster roll. The crab cakes were dry, overly salty and stringy. The side salad was fine, with a nice Asian dressing. The main course was the game hen. You can see for yourself how awful the presentation was: a half a hen doused in a plain white sauce(wouldn’t even know what to call it because it was so plain), chopped peppers and peas, probably previously frozen. The hen was dry and flavorless. On the side, the mashed potatoes were a noble effort in creativity(formed into a short cylinder) but they likely were reconstituted from a powder. Plus, they were probably under a heat lamp or in an oven to keep warm, and therefore the exterior of the potato tower was crusty and dry. Needless to say, the potatoes were totally bland and dry. Finally, for dessert I got the gluten free chocolate pyramid, which I had heard was better than the regular. It was good. The mousse inside was nothing to write home about, however. I took a few bites and washed it down with coffee. I’m truly dismayed by how terribly mediocre the food is here. A cafeteria would have better quality food, unfortunately. My boyfriend didn’t fare any better, but because he asked for veggies, he got some salad rolls which were good. His apricot tart was also bland. Really, really too bad. With a modicum of effort this restaurant would be good. It has good ideas they’re just very poorly and lazily executed.

So glad I finally got to come here! Even though we were a pretty large party(about 8 – 10 people), they helped us quickly, efficiently, and split everyone’s bill into separate checks. I had the roasted vegetable pizza, which was a decent, filling personal size. I love mozzarella, and it was packed full of it! It left me wanting more… well, vegetables though, haha.(Probably never thought you’d hear that, did you?) They have so many desserts to choose from, the hardest part was choosing just one! I blame the enticing spread of pastries in the french-style display case. I considered skipping lunch altogether and just sampling tiny cakes instead. I am an adult. The food was delicious, the interior interesting and eccentric, and the staff was very helpful. I’d recommend JJ’s for get togethers with friends as well as a great date spot.

I have never had a bad meal or pastry here. The soft shelled crab is great and not on menu — ask for it! The sauces are light and fresh, allowing room for dessert. A great value for the prices especially. I really appreciate that the mocha is unsweetened, letting me add sugar to my own taste. More soon…

I visited JJ’s yesterday with my mom because she had received a gift card for Christmas for the restaurant. We decided to give it a try for lunch having only ever been there for dessert or the seafood groupon. First of all, I understand that it’s supposed to be a fusion restaurant but their food menu is just confused. It’s an eclectic mix of Italian meets Laotian, with some Japanese and French thrown in here and there. And it seems like they only have certain ingredients to work with because every single dish on that menu has red peppers, zucchini, and onions in it. Why? We both got a cup of the soup of the day which was Cream of Corn with Blue Crab. The soup itself was very flavorful, you can tell they are not shy with butter. The texture was thin though, more like a broth with chunks of corn and a few random bits of crab floating on top. I didn’t finish mine. Mom got a pasta dish with fettuccine, shrimp, green curry, and Rosemary cream sauce. Odd combo of flavors but surprisingly delicious. Portion was a bit small for the price($ 14.95). I opted for the NY Steak pizza. What a mistake. The crust was awful and clearly the refrigerated from a can variety. The menu said the sauce was supposed to be BBQ satay. Well sure if you say so… It was sickly sweet and that’s it. No BBQ or satay flavors at all. On top were huge uncooked chunks of red pepper, zucchini, and onion. And then on top of that mess were very thin(think Philly cheesesteak style) pieces of beef, covered in a chewy and hard layer of cheese. I ended up picking all the ingredients off the break-a-tooth crust and eating them separately. Blah. Never again. We opted out of coffee and ended up sharing one of their many dessert choices. We chose a Chocolate Lilikoi Cheesecake. First of all please don’t call something a cheesecake because it looks like that or that’s how you want it to taste. It wasn’t chocolatey or cheesecake. The Lilikoi was extremely sour and the whole thing was more like a tart mousse on top of a brown piece of sponge cake. It tasted just fine but we were disappointed. We will just stick with the chocolate pyramid from now on. Overall I’d give the experience a 2 but my mom loved her lunch so I’ll knock it to a 3 but I’m being generous. If we had to pay full without the gift card I would have complained.
