My favorite bagel place! I love everything about these bagels and they have been consistently great for many many years. I’ve tried to find a comparable or better bagel place and I haven’t had any luck. The egg and cheese sandwiches are delicious.

Sorry but when you charge me $ 1.00 for a bialy that you get frozen –someone is taking advantage. Especially when Shoprite gets them directly from Brooklyn as well and charges 50 cents a piece. I was so disappointed at the arrogance of the staff and assumption that I would pay that price so I now shop at Shoprite. Sorry.

Shocking that this place has only 3 stars on Unilocal when they are miles above the other bagel shops in town in both taste and price. Other reviewers commented that bagels were ‘too small’ are, with all due respect, full of crap. Not sure if you’re used to bagels the size of tire, but these are average sized bagels compared to just about anywhere in the state. The taste is understandably, more opinion based, but I still haven’t found a better tasting bagel in Monmouth County. I stop in every Sunday for two salt bagels(which they ALWAYS have, unlike most places) and the staff is always friendly. They’ve quickly become a favorite Sunday tradition. I will say this, the other reviewers are right about the infamous blonde lady. I’ve had experiences where she was rude and unfriendly(and even messed up my order a few times), but on one occasion she apologized and told me it was because of their long morning hours. I don’t think she’s a mean person, just maybe needs less hours or to take it easy a bit. Rest of the staff is very nice and very friendly, so I don’t think that one bad egg should give the rest a bad reputation. I even came in one day towards the end of their shift, ordered 2 bagels, and the guy who I believe was the owner, loaded up my bag with about 10, free of charge. I’m hesitant to say ‘poor staff’ when many of them go out of their way to make you feel like a valued customer.

Place should have stayed in Brooklyn along with their attitude! Got charged 8 dollars for a bagel with the lox spread cream cheese everywhere else in jersey it’s 3 or 4 bucks. I thought they may have made a mistake thinking it was the actual sliced salmon lox because the blonde chick ringing me up was clueless. And if that was too much for her I asked where the bathroom was and she goes«in the back». I’m like alright and the«back is where?»…she gave me this put out look and rudely tells me to hold on as if she was doing brain surgery trying to ring me up my order. We were astonished by how we were treated and the cream cheese tasted old and bagels were way too sweet… never again haha McDonalds would be better than this dump.

Bagels taste sweet. What is that? Also very small bagels. I didn’t order a mini bagel people. I think this place is not a good representation for«Jersey bagels». There must be better bagel places in the area that I will certainly be giving my business too. The customer service here is definitely a poor excuse of what the food industry should be like.

This place is terrible. Horrible service and mediocre bagels. Jersey prides itself on the quality of its bagels. These bagels are small, overcooked, and have an unpleasantly sweet aftertaste. Not necessarily a flavor you want in your bagel. With so many other options in New Jersey for excellent bagels and wonderful customer service, you would be doing yourself a favor by avoiding this place. The staff’s usual behavior is just along the lines of rude and unacceptable. On some occasions the coworkers almost seemed annoyed that I was disturbing them by ordering food. You are an employee in the food industry. If you don’t want to be bothered with customers, get another job. Plain and simple. You have been warned about this sub-par establishment.

Lets be honest, the food here is subpar… The bagels don’t have that soft consistency that is often present in better bagel places I’ve been to and they taste sweet, like they’ve added sugar or syrup or something. Not cool. Not only that, the past couple times I’ve been there the counter people tell me that they’re out of rolls. The guy with the glasses who kept calling me «baby» had the balls to smirk and giggle at me, since I pointed out that there were rolls sitting on the shelf right in front of me. He claimed that they were stale, weeks-old rolls just for«display». Well if you’re out then don’t keep the damn display of rolls up on the shelf and then also don’t get amused at me pointing that out. Why don’t you treat your customers with respect. And why don’t you prepare some extra from now on so you have enough rolls to friggin serve people! So irritating. Also, I’ve witnessed the older guy, lets just call him«mustache»… Cursing at the female employee who works there, giving her an attitude. I felt bad because I could tell that she was flustered and frustrated at that. Thats not cool, you don’t talk to an employee/co-worker(or whatever it was) that way. Thats abusive. I’m no longer going to give my business to this place. They can go screw for all I care. I’m sure there are tons of other bagel places around that can deliver better food and with more concern for the customer. I believe I am warranted to feel the way that I do, considering I’m a paying customer who gives nothing but respect to the businesses that I patronize. Go-F-Yourself Sheepshead.

The personality of the staff aside, these are not the best bagels around. A plain bagel with 2 or more in the bag will consistently come out with one to 3 burned bagels. Not just overdone(which is the usual way way they make them) But burned! If you were to find a decent bagel in the bag you would find it has an offensive musty taste. I gave the place 4 tries. There is no way that can be considered a bad day. Bad bagel, mean people, who at this time don’t care about their product or their customers.

This was terrible. So the bagels were tiny and pretty much meh. Tasted like they haven’t cleaned the grill in forever and the aftertaste is not exactly enjoyable. Let’s get past that for a minute. There is this blonde lady who works behind the counter and is a rude, impatient, lazy, terrible server. Like what a jerk. She was almost offended that I wanted to order food. Then she impatiently and angrily takes my order. She knows the guy who orders after me so he got his order before mine because… you know… that makes sense. I even got confused when she walked up to the counter with a bag so I walked towards it only for her to get annoyed with me for assuming that my order, which was placed first, would come out first. I sat patiently and listened to her mutter under her breath talking bad about me for absolutely no reason. Also, I asked for a type of cheese that was clearly on their menu and I pointed directly to it. She appeared to get furious with me and confused and elected to not give it to me anyway. Didn’t even bother checking for it. This place is a joke. If you aren’t a long time customer they seem to not want your business. I’m still fairly new to this area but rest assured I’ll never go back here. I can accept poor service in exchange for amazing product but this is just the worst of both worlds. I hope the blonde lady who worked today(Saturday September 5th) is reading this. Next time you come to work try not to be such a jerk for no reason. I resisted walking out of this place after you finished cooking the food and not giving you any business.

Best bagels, hands down. Nothing else to say… review a bagel shop about the bagels!

The bagels are pretty good and you can often get one fresh and hot. But man, are they rude, and proud of it. I ordered bagels and when the lady came back with them I asked pretty politely for a coffee. She said Nuh uh No. Because it meant she would have to walk back the 4 feet to the coffee maker. Really? Grow up.

They don’t make bagels like this anywhere in jersey. They are true Brooklyn bagels. LOVELOVELOVE the bagels. Also love the sandwich specials. Cindy will make you the best«on the way to the jersey shore for the day» wrap you ever had. I really love coming here — it reminds me so much of home. The owner might be a bit of a soup nazi kind of guy but he is harmless. On a side note the owners sons aren’t too hard on the eyes lol

Pretty good bagels but owner is incredibly rude. I simply asked if they had any more everything bagels and without a word, he grabbed the empty basket from the shelf, and threw it on the floor. He returned from the back and slammed the new basket on the shelf. I asked if there was a problem and he replied«only when we are out of bagels» to which I answered«you don’t appear to be out of them.» Now he replied, «do you want the bagels or not?» Is that really how you talk to people and is it really professional to throw baskets on the floor? Keep your bagels, jerk.

Once again, I set myself up for disappointment, due to convenience of location and time constraints. My 8am bagel was from the day before, the $ 2.50 veg cream cheese used sparingly. Toppings are used lightly and bagels too hard and dense inside. Eli’s bagels and Atlantic Highlands bagel shops are always worth going out of your way for!

Went in early on a Friday morning. The bagels were stale and have a wierd after taste. Its the closest bagel shop to me, I will travel to avoid having these bagels.

I’m in shock. I moved less than a year ago from ny and these bagels may be good for nj, but are not good if you have ever had real access to good bagels. The French toast bagel is different and I guess tasty. I was there last week and my husband and I were eating them and looking at each other like, «lets take a ride and go get some real bagels»…I guess they taste good if you can adjust yourself.

Amazing amazing amazing bagels. The service is just as amazing. The distinct taste they have is different but has you coming back for more. Can’t say enough about this place.

SOSOSOSO good. They used to be my Saturday AM ritual spot – salt bagel with taylor ham, egg and cheese. Yup, I have salt issues. I still indulge once in a blue moon… but it’s usually a salt bagel scooped, with eggwhites… no cheese. But it’s still delicious! They have all the standard flavors(sesame, everything, salt, cinnamon raisin, whole wheat) as well as some more adventurous ones(French toast, Jalapeño, Cheese). There’s also a lot of options for spreads on top. They also serve sandwiches and everything else you’d expect in a deli. And they have a ton of Snapple… I loooooooooove snapple. They do close early, but honestly, after lunch time… are you really going to eat a bagel? Solid bagel spot. Blows the grime ball place in the A&P center out of the water. Cash ONLY.

I’m going out on a limb here when I say best bagels in NJ. Having worked at a Manhattan Bagel for much of my youth(before they served bready rolls and passed them off as bagels) I know a thing or two about bagels(especially boiling and cooking them). This place is a nonsense bagel shop — Cash Only. While they do have some fancy flavors to cater to everyone(French Toast), the bagels they produce are the PERFECT consistency. Some have noted that the bagels do have a slightly«rusty, pipey» taste to them, which I think comes from the pot in which they boil them in — not saying that it’s rusty by any means, but I would guess that the water gives them their rather distinct taste. After trying bagels all over the country, my favorite place is still Essa Bagel in Manhattan — but for a weekend fix, Sheepshead will knock your socks off.

These really are the best bagels. I begrudgingly have to admit that stuff from new york can beat what jersey has to offer… sometimes. I won’t take off a star just because they can stand alone on the merits of their bagels. The bagel is crisp on outside, tasty dough, thinly spliced pork roll(on pork roll egg and cheese sandwiches… a jersey treat) too. A little pricey and the parking is horrendous, since it essentially amounts to «just pull in front of the door.» But I am nitpicking. Congrats Sheepshead, you get a coveted 5 star review.
