Got to come here. The food and service is great. Personal attention. Relax and unwind with the perfect glass of red wine

Had a Groupon and thank goodness. We had reserved for 6 because they have a brunch but apparently it had run late so we had to come back at seven. They didn’t even seem sorry about it. We walked around and had some gelato though which cooled my hunger. When we came back we ordered, but the food was cold? We have a theory that they were rushing because of the brunch ending late but it’s still upsetting to be made to wait and then get cold food. The jerk salmon was good though. And aside from being cold, the spring rolls and the wings were delicious. I would suggest going later in the evening.

No acknowledgement when we entered. It seemed more like she was surprised we even came in. No drinks menu but the wine that costs $ 5.99 at Total Wine is charged $ 12 A GLASS — which you only find out when you get your bill. Very sneaky. The Jamaican bruschetta, shrimp were ok the fish was way too bony. We were the only customers in the restaurant and don’t foresee many more coming in based on the experience they provide. Will not be returning.

I am highly disappointment with the entire experience I had. First, when someone enters an establishment there doesn’t necessarily have to be a hostess waiting to great everyone, but at least a server or bartender acknowledges your presence. This was not the case. My husband and I felt as if we weren’t welcomed to be there. We assume we had to sit ourselves, which is what we did, and eventually someone came over and told us someone would be with us. About another 10 minutes would pass before a waitress appeared, hanged us menus wet with wine, and took our drink order, which was two bottled beers. That took another 10 – 25 minutes to arrive. Did I mention there was only like three other tables? When our beers arrived, my husband asked for a lime for his(It wasn’t until his second beer did the lime appear). We ordered the Bahamian Conch Fritters as an appetizer and I will be honest, the presentation was nice, but that’s all. It took some time for it to arrive and the portion size was, the appearance of the fritters did not seem fresh and as if it was almost burnt. The filling had a good flavor, but between the conch being chewy and grease, I could only seriously give it a 1.5 out of 5. When the waitress finally came back to take our entrée orders, we asked for some suggestions and it was almost as if we were bothering her. We settled on the Rasta Jerk Chicken Pasta and the Curry Shrimp. We had to remind the waitress that the entrees come with a side in which only my husband received one. It would another half an hour before our food arrived and not once did the waitress come and check in with us. My husband had to practically pull her aside to ask for another beer. It is during this wait that we had time to take in the décor. To me it seemed like a lazy way to do a Caribbean theme and the fact that there was a fan sitting on the bar, a box fan on the floor, and the wine sitting on a Home Depot-like shelving unit in the corner made for a poor atmosphere. The saving grace was the music. When our food finally arrived(first, my husband’s and then mine a couple of minutes after) I was not just disappointed, but embarrassed as well. I am of Jamaican descent and that food did not represent the island my family was from. Starting with the pasta, it was overcooked, bland, and just drowning in sauce. There was no jerk flavor to be had. The curry shrimp were under cooked, cooked in shell, and with a very generic and thin curry sauce. The rice and beans was best part because while it had no flavor it was cooked well. When it came time for the bill, we just wanted to get out of there so fast, and no one even made the effort to say«Bye, have a nice night,» though I can’t say that I was surprised. My husband and I use Groupon A LOT as an affordable and fun way to find new places in the area, test it out, and decide if we will frequent them or not. This experience overall was the work hour and a half we have ever had somewhere. I don’t care if they were giving away food and drinks for free or if Groupon had another deal, I could never subject myself to RED Stripe Café and Lounge again nor would I recommend anyone one else go there.

Very affordable. Servers were very pleasant and helpful but got every order wrong and the most of the bills were also incorrect. … but they were cheating themselves. Music was on and off as if a cd was playing and when it ended… no one noticed. Fish was delish but small. Ackee appetizer was great! Don’t’t expect reasonably fast or organized service. Yes… if you want water you must ask for some. Rum pinch was all over the place. Some glasses were fillled to the top with ice and some had only a few cubes. All this and we were the only customers there besides 2 guys at the bar. Lots of folks came in anout 1130… but only for the bar. They’re trying but very disorganized. Music being played was for sitting and bopping your head. Music during dinner, when it was playing, was better. Very disappointed.

Took a while to arrive. My boyfriend had the Jerk Chicken pasta. It was lacking in spice and had no flair, but the oxtails were quite possibly the best I’ve ever had. The rice and peas were cooked amazingly.

I’m not sure about the mediocre reviews this restaurant currently has, but I have nothing but great things to say about RED Stripe Café: good food, great staff and open late on the weekends. I have yet to experience the live music there, but I hear it’s great and occurs after 10pm on some nights. My husband and I like to visit there for dinner after Hollywood’s art walk events that occur once an month. The restaurant is located on Harrison Street in downtown Hollywood, which I like to think of as a more sophisticated scene for the locals to enjoy(versus the party-hearty tourists that frequent Hollywood Boulevard). My husband is a big fan of Bahamian conch fritters, and just loves the ones they serve here. I love their jerk chicken spring rolls. Speaking of which, the jerk chicken and oxtail stew both are listed under the core definition of «comfort food» and make me happy on my worst days. Top it off with their rum punch and you are in Caribbean heaven in Hollywood, FL. The food is also served hot and fresh, and tastes very much like home-cooked West Indian food. I don’t know one person who will decline that! To put a cherry on top, their prices are very reasonable. Once, I got the jerk chicken plus two sides– rice and peas with plantains– and it was only $ 10! For the quality of food I received, that’s something to go home smiling about.

They weren’t prepared. Went to have dinner on a Friday night(2 couples) and we waited over 35 min for our food. Keep in mind it was totally empty at 9:00PM on a Friday. The food was delicious however, but the bar is only beer/wine. The staff was friendly, but not very aware. Just need a few improvements in the service, but otherwise it was a pleasant place for dinner. Please get a liquor license!

Oh man. After a long flight. some pool action, a little shopping and a lot of unpacking-Hunger struck my family. We decided on having Caribbean food. Reviews were decent enough. Pics were enticing enough. Ordered the same thing someone posted-the buttered jerk shrimp something or another(the pic had at least 8 shrimp)-we only got 4! Rice was undercooked. Not only that-if you want to have severe diarrhea-feel free to eat here. The jerk chicken did a number on my entire family. Not sure if it was old or what. Anyway… maybe this was out-of-the-norm. I don’t know. Great way to start our family vacation!

Food was mediocre at best and therefore overpriced. Conch fritters were not fresh but chewy. Oxtail was falling apart as though it had been heated and reheated many times. The Fish was Ok not that exciting. The punch was delicious and the server was attentive and pleasant.
We used a Living Social deal for our experience. It’s unfortunate that this restaurant doesn’t realize the importance of making a first rate impression upon those who buy Living Social deals. It is a marketing medium they need to take full advantage of. A restaurant usually has one chance to make its best impression. Instead they try to pass sub par quality meals to patrons for a handsome charge. I gave this place 3 stars because it possesses great potential. Ambience & décor are nice and service was pleasant. This place has a bar and great location that can serve Jamaican cuisine in a stylish environment. They just need to review their policy and philosophy on food quality to take their business to the next level for repeat business.

We were in town for a conference and headed to this neighborhood to check out the bars. When I saw there was a Caribbean food joint, I got really excited — moreso when I saw goat curry on the menu. We were promptly seated when we arrived on a Friday night, and the place was pretty empty. The lady who served us was very nice, and was always prompt and available. We ordered the jerk wings to start and were quite disappointed. There was no noticeable rub or sauce on them, and definitely none of the kick one expects from jerk chicken. For entrees, I had the goat curry(of course) and my wife had the Fish Escoveitch. The goat curry was perfect, and had a healthy amount of spice(making the absence on the wings all the more curious). I had the bammy side and it had a really fishy taste to it. My wife wasn’t thrilled with her Escoveitch unfortunately, but the plantains were quite nice. Their bar appears to be quite limited, but of course they have Red Stripe, so all is good!

I went with a friend for the 48 Hour Film Project. The food was Amazing. We shared several items from the app menu(jerk chicken spring rolls:)))) and the authentic salt fish bruschetta). Five Stars for both! Be sure to ask for the homemade scotch bonnet. That’s authentic, too. Get ready to feel the Heat! Our entrée was the oxtail(you need to check availability for this dish as well as the curried goat, I think). Let’s just say they even had the bones cut correctly so you could suck the marrow;). For oxtail lovers – I say no more. The Chef(a lovely lady whose name slips my mind, but her daughter Amber is a friendly face behind the bar on most weekends. Will go back during the week – will call ahead for a reservation and menu availability:)) That says a lot as I will be coming from South Miami. Go. Enjoy.

Went here recently on a Thursday night because of a LivingSocial deal. It was dead, maybe 5 people total, and when we walked in there was no host or staff, so we sat ourselves at the bar area and waited about 5 – 10 minutes before someone came out. They need a bell at the door or something, or maybe have at least one staff member in the dining room at all times. The food was OK. We started with the conch fritters. I personally did not like them, to me they had no taste, but my date did. I had the Jerk Salmon for my entrée. I actually thought it was good, mildly tasty and affordable. While we ate, the waitress/bartender made a few mistakes with another customer that walked in. Got her order wrong first, put it in as to-go instead of dine in, so the customer ate her food out of a to-go container. She seemed to enjoy it, otherwise. I just think the staff needs to be more polished, and make sure someone is in the dining room at all times so people don’t just walk in and have to wait for someone to come out from the kitchen. Another smaller note, they had menus you could take to go home. They were simple printed menus, but I noticed that a whole bunch of prices were crossed off, a few more than once, with new higher prices written in pencil next to them. I think they could have just reprinted the menus to avoid having them look tacky as they did — that way they wouldn’t look like they just cross out prices and increase them whenever they want.

Very fresh organic food. Should you desire a dish outside the line of chain restaurants and Reds Café is a place you should try. The staff is very personable and attentive the dishes are packed with Flavor and the night we attended they had live music. It was our date night and absolutely PLEASED!

Don’t dine here. This place was a ghost town when we went, should have known. Popped in at 4 for a quick bite and the chef wasn’t in. The restaurant had supposedly been open since 12. So we had to wait for the chef to arrive. In the mean time, I enjoyed a warm kola champagne poured over ice. These types of drinks really should be refrigerated and then poured over ice. Warm, everything just melts together into a watered down mess. I wanted to order a roti, but was told that they definitely wouldn’t have that. Then I went for curried goat, no go on that either. It would have been easier to just say what you did have available no? I ordered the peppered shrimp, the braised oxtail, and a side of rice and peas. My friend ordered the shrimp rasta pasta and added chicken. We waited and waited and waited some more before the chef arrived and started preparing our food. We we’re told we’d receive a discount for our patience. The peppered shrimp was anything but peppered. I understand this is a fusion spot but it wasn’t spicy at all. Also the shrimp were not deveined. That’s pretty gross. It’s a simple procedure to remove the black intestine even with the shell still on. It just makes for a more tasty and attractive presentation. I know it’s not harmful, just a little gritty but it’s just better form to go without. Basically it wasn’t what I expected in anyway. I said nothing. Our entrees arrived and my friend looked at her rasta pasta with a face. She’s Jamaican, I’m Trinidadian. I have no idea what rasta pasta is or isn’t. She tells me that it isn’t rasta pasta and pulls up a photo that looks nothing like her dish. We’re hungry and pressed for time at this point so we just eat. My oxtail and rice are fine. Nothing to write home about but good because I’m starved. When the waitress(who was so very nice) brought out the plate she said I got another side so I asked if they had plantain, she said yes and said she’d bring it right out. Spoiler alert: I never got any plantain. When I asked about it later she said oh yes they don’t have any. Whyyy did you tell me I was getting it lol?! Anyway the Rasta Pasta turned into a situation. The chicken tasted frozen, more shrimp with the gastrointestinal tract left in tact and felt more like Chicken Alfredo than Rasta Pasta. So I felt bad because she was only here because of me. I didn’t want her to eat food she wasn’t enjoying. I suggested she send it back in exchange for the oxtail to go. Mistake. The chef came out to inquire the reasoning. She said she didn’t care for it and the chef pressed her for a reason. Once she told her the chicken tasted frozen the chef became defensive. She stepped uncomfortably close to my friend during all interactions with her from that moment on. She also had major attitude during further interactions. Told her the next time she didn’t like something she should just say so because everything is fresh in her kitchen so there’s no way the chicken could taste frozen. Blank stare. I was pretty much left speechless where normally I would have spoken up because I couldn’t believe this was happening. Oh and the to go order had two tiny pieces of plantain. What a joke. We are both Caribbean we’re not strangers to our own food. We know what’s good and what isn’t. We’ll never return to R.E.D Stripe Café and now we know why it was empty.
