Extra Space Storage

I agree in part to the other reviews — clean, temperature controlled, easy entrance, polite and helpful location manager. The BIG drawback is the pricing! I set up my storage space account — automatic withdrawal each month — easy for me and they get their money every month. Initially my rate agreement for a 5×12 unit was $ 90 a month. The 5×10 units were in higher demand so I actually got a 5×12 for less than a 5×10 which was $ 119/​month. Good so far, then 5 months into my having the storage unit I received a rate change notice saying the price was going to increase — not just by a little, but by A LOT! It went from $ 90 a month to $ 136.46 a month = a $ 46.46 a month increase which is a 52% increase! I called to find out what was going on — I wasn’t storing anything stinky or illegal; I wasn’t playing the drums in the unit;my bank account charge always went through — so what was it? When I talked to the manager of the Hilo location, she said it wasn’t unusual for this to happen, in fact it was a regular occurrence. It was NOT her doing; it was her district manager’s doing and the company policy. So I guess their strategy is get people to rent a storage unit for a good/​reasonable price initially. Then wait several months and price gauge people — betting most people won’t want to go through the hassle of moving their stuff out of the unit!!! Not good customer policy any way you look at it. I am buying a metal storage shed for less than $ 300 on amazon (free shipping) and putting in a floor for about $ 100. SO for less than $ 400 (3 months of paying extra space storage) I will have a storage unit in my own backyard, and the monthly rates will be zero. VERY DISAPPOINTED and hoping this review will help you NOT get price gauged. In case you’re wondering (I sometimes do when I read some reviews) I do NOT have any connection to any other storage company, etc. I just hope this review prevents other people from getting taken advantage of! If enough people DID move their stuff out once they got their rate change notice, the company would probably stop doing this.

After moving to to Hilo I needed a place to store all my items that I didn’t have a place for. I called to get a few estimates and to see what kind of storage spaces they had available. Grace helped me get the perfect size unit and gave me accurate estimates over the phone. She was very polite and always very helpful when I stop by to get a few things. This place is always very clean and has friendly staff! Definitely recommend!

Outstanding, very helpful. The building is clean. The 3^rd floor units are above the water zone. They have moving carts that renters may barrow. Every office person has been very helpful. The have gone above and beyond to help. Also their unit locks are less expensive then the nearest hardware store. All A/​C…

This place was sooooo clean it was crazy. The person who helped us, Grace, was so patient. My husband and I were super exhausted after moving all morning and she calmly walked us through all the options. She was fantastic. This place is really a state of the art facility. I was impressed with all the safety features and how clean everything was. Very glad we chose this place.
