Our very nice neighbors here in Bend for whom this is a second home and who live in Porltand most of the time, have brought us tulips from VanderZanden twice. They are hands down the most beautiful and fresh cut tulips we have ever had. Since we were going to be in the Hillsboro area last week, we decided we’d stop in at VanderZanden and tour the fields, given we assumed this was possible to do after looking at their web site..(As it is at Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn.) We arrived to find fresh cut tulips to buy at the little farm stand at this property address but were told getting to the fields for visitors was not possible as there was no road to get us there. Boohoo on the latter. Woohoo on the former! If you live in the Portland area and are looking for fresh tulips in the season, you will not do better than VanderZanden. Prices are really reasonable too for big, beautiful bunche of ten stems of field fresh tuliips for only $ 5.00. Our recommendation is go buy flowers here and support local agriculture. A win win! THIS N THAT: 1) A note to folks who can’t navigate steps, the tulip bunches are displayed in a little sales area down a step. If you can’t step down, I’m very sure the nice people there will bring the bunches up to you. 2) Open seven days a week during the season. 7a — 6p 3) From Feb — April potted and cut tulips and potted hyacinths. May — June cut peonies.
