I was so surprised when I pulled into this rest area and the restrooms were inside a silo, talk about recycling. It was very neat and tidy. The restroom stalls wrapped around the building and the sinks were in the middle. This place was spotless. Plus they had a play area for kids and a working windmill that produces water to quench your thirst. I emptied my bladder and filled my water bottle and was back on the road again. Thank you Texas for a cool spot along my travels.

This stop is so nicely maintained! It is really nice and clean with plenty of parking. There are walking trails around the building so you can get some flood flowing to your legs. hehe The building always has a «new» feel to it. I guess they always update little things to make it feel this way. It doubles as a «safety» stop which I do not know what it means exactly but I guess that is why it is so big and bad!

I have passed this location several times in the last few months traveling back and forth to Dallas. This time I needed to stop and go in. It is of modern design and not like a lot of rest area that I have seen in my travels. The restrooms are very clean and they even have electrical outlets where you can charge your phones if needed! You know we have to keep our phones charged. There is also a visitor center that I didn’t visit but the grounds are so clean and there is even a work out area on site that you can use. This is definitely a place you will need to stop at if you are in the area.

Men’s room out of service for cleaning. You have one job rest area… to provide a bathroom. You failed at that.

This an awesome rest area. It reminds of the ones in Belton, TX. I am glad they finally built some in the Hillsboro area. They have storm shelters here and the bathrooms are very clean. They have a playground for the kids to get out all of their energy from long drives. Great place for truck drivers to park for free and get some much needed rest. They have vending machines and they accept credit cards on the machines.

One of several new super duper rest areas near Hillsboro. It’s about an hour from Dallas. Too much coffee before you left home, stop here. Check out the wall of vending machines if you need a snack or drink. And, there are exhibits and fun wall posters to read. It must be a new«thang» to leave the doors off public restrooms. No big deal for me but the little family who came after me was perplexed.

Wow, when did my beloved but often misguided red state start actually spending money on decent public works like this beautiful roadside rest stop just outside of Hillsboro? I must say that this place(opened Fall 2013) makes me proud. Perhaps our out of state visitors will get the correct impression that Texans do believe in hospitality for our guests, as well as for our own. So, what can you expect during your visit? Gorgeous architecture, clean & plentiful modern restrooms, vending machines for drinks & snacks, nice outdoor spaces to stretch your legs or have a picnic, some interesting artwork, a fully functioning wind-powered water pump exhibit, and a few history lessons to boot. Oh, there’s a twin station on each side of the highway, so whether you’re headed north or south, you’re covered. Bring your own hand soap. For some reason, there was none during our visit. We stopped specifically for the cool playscape and cross training stations. It felt great to work out some energy before our long trip back to Austin. That’s right, back to the crunchy, soft, true blue heart of Texas. There’s another set of these cool renovated stops just down the road south of Temple if you feel nature’s call before arriving back in the State Capital. This rest stop was impressive! I did not check out the visitor center, but the bathrooms outside had a modern, contemporary feel as far as rest stops go. The stop was almost more like a park to me than a rest stop. There were little exercise stations and side walks where you could get your work out on or stretch your legs a bit. There seemed to be plenty of benches to sit on and enjoy a bit a fresh air as well. The bathrooms were the nicest rest stop bathrooms I have ever seen! The tiling was pretty and there were automatic flushes and sinks! It looked like there were plenty of places for trucks to park. On the car side the parking spots were a bit longer to accommodate for a trailer for something else you might be pulling it looked like. If you need a place to stop for a picnic, a nice restroom or a place to stretch your legs then this rest stop is highly recommended!

This rest area is set to resemble grain silos and the prairie theme. Very clean, modern and spacious. Restroom facilities located in the main building, as well as the mini silos outside. Inside is a nice display which explains some of the history of the area.
