I’ve had dinner and also the lunch buffet here many times over the years. My most recent visit was just this week. The restaurant itself is nicely furnished, but the layout for the buffet is rather awkward, as there is no clear enter-exit order to the place. Guest are constantly bumping into each other to get at the serving bowls or at the separate island with soups and plates. The culinary failure for me was that since I was one of the first to arrive, I got to see the serving bowls in their initial condition. Fresh food, right? Yes. The food was indeed fresh. And the number of choices of dish was good. I knew to expect the food itself to be good. What I did not expect was that all but two of the dishes had a fresh layer of cilantro poured over them. I am fine with pretty much all traditional curries and spices, but cilantro does me in for a good four hours after any meal where I ingest it, so if I see it in the food I won’t eat it. The two dishes without the cilantro were tasty, though the fat/muscle content of the meat in the meat dish(goat? beef? lamb? I could not tell) was very high. The man sweeping the sidewalk outside of the restaurant was very friendly and pleasant, but the person who seated me was not at all friendly. During my meal, no one came by my table to refill my water, though the guy who had seated me walked past me at least a dozen times. When I went to the register desk by the door to pay for my meal on the way out, the guy running the register mumbled inaudibly and made no eye contact whatsoever. No «thank you» either. I’ll be avoiding this place in the future, due to the cilantro and the pathetic service.

This place is disgusting. I ordered the muglai dish and it was like a watery soup. I asked for it extra spicy and it had absolutely no flavor. I am not adventurous enough to eat the shrimp in the dish because I’m pretty sure that I will regret it. Im pretty sure that they are not serving the indians that frequent this place the same food that they are serving the whities. That place is always packed with Indians. I’m sure if they were serving the Indians the same food as the local residents they wouldn’t go there. False advertising at best. I’m just saying. Please see video. I have never been to a restaurant that was so inconsistent. If you feel up to playing the lottery. This is the plce gor you. Although I highly recommend against it.

It’s surprising to see only three reviews for such an amazing place. Swagat is by far best value for my money when it come to India food. I especially would like to recommend the weekend buffet at this place. The spread is unbelievable for 12 $. 4 non veg items 6 veg items starters and 2 sweet dishes are enough to confuse you while you fill your plate ;).

Pretty sure this place is actually called Swagath… I can’t stop eating here. After I finish a meal here I am ready to come back the next day. I haven’t made it to the buffet, and have been here for early dinner hours a handful of times. The service is great. The décor is ok. The booths have some tears, but the restaurant is clean. The place has a calm ambiance and usually has 4 or 5 tables filled. Everytime I eat here I order the tikka masala with chicken and naan. My SO gets the korma with lamb and rice. We share the carb side dishes. I am obsessed with the tikka masala. I love the flavorful creamy curry. The chicken looks like it is cooked on a skewer and put in the dish. The meat is always tender and juicy. The portions are healthy and worth the price. I always have a bit to take home but it never sees the light of the next day. One thing I am particularly happy about is the drink situation here. The cocktails are $ 7 – 8 but they are made well, and they don’t use cheap well liquor. My favorites are the mango martini and the mango mojito. So tasty and refreshing! I would love to try more dishes on the menu, but I love the tikka masala so much I just may have to order two entrees. I will return again and again!

Our service was a little slow and lacking in the beginning, but the food more made up for it. As a vegan, I really appreciate that they offer an «allergen list» menu that clearly states which items are dairy free and gluten free. It also has what amounts to a Frequently Asked Questions section about dietary needs. You have to ask for this special menu. I ordered the masala dosa and my dining companion ordered the paneer dosa. My masala dosa was very flavorful and not greasy at all. The sambar was tasty and not too spicy for me to enjoy. I’m not really a big fan of tomato chutney, but the coconut and tamarind chutneys were delicious. The ambiance is upscale and quiet, very nice for a date night. They are reasonably priced with large portion sizes too. We will definitely be back!

I was here at least 5 times in the last 12 months and it was always very delicious. The food is very authentic and I never heard complaints or negative reviews from friends I brought here. The service is sometimes not as attentive as I would expect from such a high standard restaurant, but we also never had to wait mega long ;) My favorites are: Tandoori chicken or lamb, but I tried a lot from friends and almost everything is awesome.

This is 4.5* for me due to good quality food and variety they offer. Its strange that I have not written review of this place yet. I have been to this place multiple times for their buffet, dinner and have used their catering as well. Most of the times I have been satisfied with the non greasy and good tasting food. Here is my rating — Taste — 4.5÷5 Ambiance 4⁄5 Buffet Variety — 5⁄5 Freshness — 4.5÷5 Service 4.5÷5 I have never had a bad experience here. Many times for dinner if they have excess desserts they do give complimentary desserts. They serve Indian style coffee too. Their catering is very fresh and tasty. Though at an expensive side but the taste of food makes it worth it. They do customize out of menu as per your preference. I have never met the owner and mostly see new staff. The staff is well trained, warm and friendly. I don’t go in food coma after their buffet;) and food is fresh. They have good variety of vegetarian options too. I like they keep innovating with the buffet and it is not the usual same stuff. I had a zucchini with gram lentil in coconut sauce and broccoli stir fry in Indian spices. Which is not usual buffet menu. They offer more of South Indian style food. I am visiting them again when I crave for restaurant style Indian food and good service. It is one of the best Indian options in Hillsboro! I recommend this place for catering, Indian buffet and for dinners. Swagat(Hillsboro) is one of the must tries for Indian food in Portland.

I’m a dinner regular! This place has amazing food. The tikka masala with fresh homemade garlic nan hot out of the tandoori oven is to die for! The Gobi Manchuria is my favorite dish ever! The freshly muddled mango mojito is the best I have ever had. Especially if Jasmine, our adorable, fun, sassy server last Monday night muddles it for you. The Greg and Jasmine team on Monday nights can’t be beat! These two seem to run the restaurant on Mondays along with two adorable Hispanic boys. They all seem to love being a team. It’s fun to hear English, Spanish and«Tamil»(one of the many languages spoken in India per our server) as you sit by the window enjoying the smell of Indian food being cooked. The place is usually full of Indian people, which makes me happy! I would recommend the owner do a remodel. The décor is looking quite old and out of date for this modern area of town — Orenco station is cool and hip, but this place is not! More people would love this place if it were cool! A real bar would be great too! The carpet is old and in need of being replaced. Actually he should just take the carpet out all together and go with the popular urban look of concrete floors! The furniture is too heavy and a lot is it is broken. It is Indian though so I guess that’s nice. The booths need new vinyl(a lot of it is ripped and stained). He should also get some nice built in, granite counters to place his buffet on. The napkins usually look dirty. I hate buffets anyway and if they look dirty, even worse! Food is great! Décor sucks! Good wine list! Good cocktail list with top shelf alcohol. No well drinks here! Great service except for the rude hostess on the weekends. You don’t see her Monday nights!

The dinner buffet is great! Relatively cheap and delicious! The main menu though is not favorable. Not large portions.

I was very skeptical because of the 3.5 stars, but the food was great! Haven’t come on a weekday, but the weekend selection was amazing. Had the perfect selection of spicy and non spicy food. Naan was very fresh.

Came for dinner and it’s outta this world delicious. I’m picky with Indian food but this place tastes homemade. Everything was packed full of flavor. I had lamb samosas to start and lamb jal frazi both of which were wonderful. Both dishes had rich flavors which tasted like they cooked for hours. My favorite addition was the cilantro mint chutney. I put it on everything. I had a mango lassi to end and it was average so next time I would try a different dessert.

Summary: Great Ambience Great Location Lousy Food I decided to go to this place on a cold rainy night in Oregon, after reading some reviews that it serves«Authentic Indian food» I ordered Masala Dosa and Coffee. Masala dosa was severed with Chutney, Sambar and tomato Chutney. The side dishes tasted like someone has cooked it after watching you tube video receipe first time. Dosa was big but lacked any authenticity. Instant Coffee was warm and tasted like boost. If you want to enjoy the ambiance, go for it.

I’m from bay area, California. Visiting Portland for the first time and this place was suggested by one of my friends. Was kind of sceptical with the 3 ½ stars. It was worth a try at this restaurant. Remember, Papad is given as complimentary. Food was very delicious. Good for Both for veggie and non veg. Veg Biryani, Goat biryani, naan, Navratan Korma, Masala Dosa. Quantity was good. Well balanced spices(if you like spicy do not forget to mention while you order). I love spicy food and they were able to do it. Magic in the hands of chef. Traditional ambience. Last but not least. service was excellent. I strongly recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic Indian food.

As an Indian, I feel like this is the least authentic buffet/dine in I’ve been to in recent time. I have been coming here for the last year or so and noticed their quality and flavor drop significantly.

One of the best Indian buffet in town! This is one of my top two favorite Indian Buffets next to Chennai Masala. Very elegantly cultured décor. Authentic and fancy. Food is delicious and is beautifully displayed in their elegantly looking hot trays. Located in the lovely Orenco Station area. I have been going here for many years. It’s definitely worth the experience.

Ate here again recently and WOW, the flavors were awesome. Everything on the menu, even the stuff that looks nasty(isn’t) tastes great. The chicken, the naan, the atmosphere, the service — all great.

An excellent lunch buffet but it can get very crowded so be prepared. They have all the usuals like chicken tika and vegan stuff too, fresh naan and some damn tasty soup. Also a very yummy desert mango and assorted fruit type thing, imagine fruit in a pool of mango lassi. Nice owners too and overall my favorite Indian lunch buffet in the area or for about 10 miles around at least.

This place has a fine dining type of atmosphere/ambiance. Its was clean, well decorated, and cozy — but yes it was a bit dark inside. Went here on a Tuesday night — and it seemed pretty dead at about 7 pm. Luckily the food was not as dead as well. At first I was worried — with the, you know, the aftermath after eating super spicy food — the next day? I was pleasantly surprised that the dishes(see photo) I got were well balanced, not tongue numbing, sweat invoking spicy dishes.
