I’ve been to this diner many times on my back and forth on business. It’s been very good all along. Yes it’s dated but it’s an old diner, to be expected. Food has always been very good and prices are more than fair. Very friendly service considering its New Jersey…

I’m really sorry to say… but the one time we tried this diner I had the WORST chicken croquettes I’ve ever had. LOADED with onions. You couldn’t get any more onions in them. You could smell nothing but onion from the moment the plate was brought to the table. One taste and I was done… then I felt sick from the onion-fueled sensory overload. Just God-awful. We are a diner family. We love diners. We wanted to love Hightstown Diner being it’s virtually an area landmark. Too bad… first impressions are key…

We were taking my grandson to the Hightstown Library for s sing along. Decided to stop here because we were short on time and figured a diner would push out the meals pretty quickly. Both my wife and I had eggs and home fries. Both our meals came out in a timely fashion. My wife always requests well done home fries and hers were done as requested. I requested eggs over easy as did my wife. They were done as requested. We ordered silver dollar pancakes for the grandson. There were six of them and they were a nice size for a 4 year old. My grandson likes to fold his pancakes and dip them in syrup. The waitress was very prompt when we asked her for a small bowl for dipping. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely return here again.

Corn beef hash is gooood. Seasonal juices(Grapefruit/Melon) was a nice touch. Service can seem casual(certainly without fake smiles)

Once every couple of weeks or more I stop by for a takeout breakfast. The order is always perfect: the eggs, sausage, potatoes, and toast are delicious. Just as important is the consistent friendliness of the staff. It’s great to start the day that way! At some point I’ll stop by and sample dinner items.

Stopped here on our first ever«Triple D» road trip from NYC to Orlando. We ate what Guy ate, that’s the rule of the trip. Two us shared the Original Eggs Benny over Housmade Corned beef Hash. The eggs were perfect so was the Hollandaise. The hash had great flavor but some house it wasn’t warm, like at all. I like my food hot, to the point where I can see steam rising from it so that was my only disappointment. If your are doing a foodie tour I would recommend. It’s cute, quaint and friendly with good prices and pretty good food.

2.5 stars really This was closer to the turnpike than the Americana which is why we ended up here. Assorted memorable details… Service was fine, lots of lovable locals jaw wagging on an early Saturday morning, coffee was plentiful but weak, tasty home fries, they served their scrapple deep fried and the sausage was delicious. The physical space needed a good cleaning, which was a real turn off.

Reviews for this place are so skewed that I wasn’t sure what to expect but this place is really nice. Stopped in with some family and friends and everything we ordered tasted just fine. For the price we were very happy with portions and taste was good. Granted this is no five star fine dining restaurant but for what they offer it’s really close to a 5 star rating for it’s specific offerings; cheap eats. I certainly would stop by again and would encourage others to give it a try for themselves. Coffee was brewed perfectly, toast, eggs and french toast I ordered was very tasty. I have no complaints about this place other than parking stinks cause it clearly gets crowded.

We get down this way every once in a while. Assunpink is nearby and we enjoy birding there. We keep it simple at this diner. Chicken fingers for my son. Corned beef hash and scrambled eggs for me. Well done hash browns and rye toast. Good coffee. Food is always good. No issues with service. This last time I paid a visit to the restroom. I have never«reviewed» a restroom in my life. I always laugh at the reviews that waste more verbiage on the bathroom then the food. But this bathroom was the worst, man. Just awful. Smelled like a porta potty that hadn’t been serviced in a month. Took my breath away. I’m on the fence as to whether I will be back.

June 10 visit. If you rate diners on the quality of food served, along with friendly fast service then Hightstown diner gets five stars. This was my 4th visit in 3 years and I have been remiss in reviewing this cute little place that is only about 2 miles off the Jersey turnpike and well worth the stop. Exit 8 if you are going north, Today I have a five dollar lunch special and I got a grilled cheese on wheat with a cup of Soup or you can get a salad. Both came super fast and super hot and were super tasty. My friend got a veggie omelette which he raved over and his coffee was constantly refilled Although the coffee I ordered wasn’t included in the five dollar special, it was refilled often without having to ask. The servers were pleasant and attentive. My kind of diner.

I really enjoy this diner. The food is always good and service too. However, today I used their restroom for the first time. Disgusting! The stench of urine was overwhelming. The stall walls were nothing less then painted over rust. If the bathroom is this bad, I’m concerned on the cleanliness of the kitchen. Ok management, spend some money and rehab the men’s room. Or at least wash the urine off the floors and toilet. YUCK! Clearly the board of health doesn’t look at the bathroom.

OK. So, we ordered a simple breakfast sandwich — eggs, ham, cheese — side of home fries(to go). I have never ever seen my husband throw away a breakfast sandwich before. He didn’t even eat half. The home fries were dry and tasteless — also got tossed. I drive by and I cannot for the life of me, figure out how the parking lot seems to get packed on the weekends. Are they giving away free side orders of solid gold bullion? Someone please clue me in. I’m begging.

We love this place! Fast seating, fast service, coffee refills, everything a diner should be. Always come here for breakfast food, especially omelettes, though the lunch menu is popular. Food is served in large portions and is consistently delicious. Also, it is a good value and I would recommend it over the other local diners. It is also a very popular place and they have early bird dinner specials too. I am pretty sure that the menu has had a makeover from some of the earlier reviews, it isn’t overwhelming at all now.

The food and service were great. I had the corn beef hash eggs Benedict-a signature dish here. Sarah had creamed chip beef and Gail had a chili cheddar omelet. Coffee was also great.

Simple little diner in Hightstown… stopped in this weekend around 11am for a quick breakfast: — décor is what I expected — service was friendly and attentive — good selection on the menu — extremely reasonable prices I didn’t encounter anything negative here… give it a shot

This is a hidden gem! I am a huge diner fan. This one is excellent! Everything in home made on the premises and the food tastes like it. Portions are generous and you get a lot of extras, like a cup of home made soup or a fresh salad. Service is friendly and fast. Prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend the detour on your way to or from Princeton or if you are in the area. The apple pie is worth it alone!

Two stars is a generous designation for this historic diner. While it’s easy to be charmed by the old school ambience, the food was barely there. We ordered a chicken parm plate that was bland, a Athenia burger platter, plopped on top of a dismal, pretend Greek salad, and several soups which came from a can. The waitress was harried and the men’s room smelled like one of those damp humid corners of Penn Station circa 1980. There must be better options in this charming town.

This is a small, rather inconspicuous diner in the center of Hightstown NJ. There are a couple of things which set this place apart from the typical NJ diner. 1. It has a cozy intimate feel & it’s family owned & operated. I like that. It’s a little more«Mayberry» than your typical diner. 2. They make their own corned beef hash here and it is Excellent! Probably the best I’ve had in a diner. So if you’re going for breakfast try it. You’ll love it. Finally the prices here are Very reasonable. Okay so their food is no threat to Bobby Flay, but you also can eat a hearty meal here in a cozy setting and not break the bank. Parking lot is modest in size so leave the Hummer at home.
