I am sooo glad that Uncle Stavros is back! I love their breakfast: the Greco omlette. They have the best Greek food. Their spanakopita is wonderful! Their homemade bread is heavenly! The staff is super nice! The wine selection is good! I like to go at night and sit outdoors. Family run with not a lot of help, therefore, being open is spotty. I hope this place makes it!

This place is hands down the best breakfast in Hermosa Beach. Everything is fresh, prepared to perfection, and beautifully plated. Do NOT skip the homemade bread. It’ll be the best $ 0.50 you ever spend. Even the fruit garnish is perfectly ripe and delicious. Service is always good, but don’t go here if you’re in a hurry since there’s usually only two servers and they tend to be busy. My only critique is that the coffee could be better, but I don’t go to brunch for the coffee. Overall, it just doesn’t get any better.

Uncle Stavros Café in Hermosa Beach. This place is off the usual path but I’ve always wondered about it. It was a pleasant suprise. I got the Gyro Omelet. It was very unique and came with this great home made bread. The bread was the highlight of the meal. The omelet was large, well cooked, and unique ingredients for an omelet. The coffee was tasty. Usually you get subpar coffee at some of these hole in the wall spots. It’s wasn’t amazing but it was for sure worth another try. They have Musaka on the menu(my favorite Greek dish). Greek food is in my top 5 types of cuisine. Great Greek spots in Connecticut and Montréal, where I spent many formative years. Surprisingly hard to find good Greek in LA. I’m for sure going back for some Greek dishes. Low expectations and a an above average experience is a good combo.

There is no place better for an authentic gyro, homemade hummus, homemade bread, avgolemeno soup that is to die for. They also have an amazing breakfast. We visited for 4 days and ate there 3 times. You will not be disappointed.

Damn this place has a good gyro! I’m going to become a regular for sure since it’s close by. But the service and food is really good. Food was brought fresh and hot.

We found this place driving by one morning and thought it looked inviting. It was a good hunch, the server did his best to keep up and the food was home-made good. The chicken-apple sausage was excellent and the other breakfast ingredients, hash browns included, were up to par. Coffee tasted fine. We had a nice chat with the couple who run the place after our meal. If that sounds too uncritical, well, we are not super-sensitive or come into a place expecting treatment like we were Donald Trump. Civility and forbearance are a two-way proposition.

I’ve always loved this place… amazing food, service at times can be slow but worth the wait. Great beach feeling, family, and it you like authentic Greek, you’ll love it. Try their Gyros! no one does them better!

I live right there so eventually gave it a shot. It’s tough to find a mellow breakfast place in the area. If you lack taste buds and the desire for the food you actually order, this is your place. Couldn’t tell if they served me old burnt coffee or the mornings dish sink waste. Quote of the visit: «how do you mess up hashbrowns?» I sometimes wonder what the server thinks when the amount of food left on your plate when you pay the bill and leave is the same as when they brought it to you. There are some who love it here, so, why not take a chance and support a local business?

The saddest thing about this restaurant is the fact that it was once revered; service banging, food at its best, an owner«Stavros» on top. I believe every word from every positive and negative post, the staff(daughters of Stavros) have turned this once successful café into a nightmare. It is simple, their father is too old to run a business nowadays. The«horrid» service spoken of on this page is solely due to the incompetence of the people running the restaurant. There is a huge lack of «love» that both the food and service requires. In other words, they don’t care about their customers. Hands down, best homemade bread I’ve had. The food was great the last time I went, and years before that, when I was a kid in my grandfathers restaurant, things were good. Give the place a try, the food’s good! Do not be surprised if there is a yelling match going on in back between a spiteful hostess and irritated cook.

I’m so sad that I live near this place because every time I walk by I feel the pangs of reliving the worst restaurant experience of my life.(For the full story check out the review Jenna W wrote on 8/3/2014.) This happened a year ago and it still bothers me! No one was explicitly rude to me but my boyfriend and I watched the most ridiculous event go down at the table next to us. The cook/manager, her name is Lula, who has been mentioned before is such an angry person it makes me so sad to see her when I walk by to go to good places like Mickey’s or Tammie’s. I warn anyone who comes to town to simply go anywhere but here.

Before you read on please know the food here is great. Generous portions and you’re very close to the beach. If you read the other reviews you’ll see a pattern about service. I get it. This place does not have the standard: «hi my name is Mike and I’ll take care of you» vibe. It’s not a chain but more of a mom and pop shop. So if you want to be super pampered service style please don’t come. I’ve been here over 8 times and I’ve never been treated badly. I take my mom here for brunch and mimosas if that says anything :) However if you are a foodie and you are not in a rush this place is GREAT. The food is tasty. Best things to order are: Cheat meal: French toast, it’s sooo good. Healthy option: true Greek salad, order it with the homemade bread. You can dip it in the dressing. Nom nom nom Hubby tried the tuna melt. It was good. HUGE portion though, if not hungry order it to share.

Walking up to the restaurant, two of the servers are cussing at one another. Upon walking in stood in the door way waiting to be seated. Passed several times without recognition. Decided to ask if you seat yourself and was greeted with a half ass answer of we will clear a table. Tables were already cleared. Decided to take the hint and try somewhere else.

The food is great. Fresh ingredients and always cooked perfect. There is one problem tho… The service. They are always understaffed. Hire a couple servers that know what they are doing and this place would kill it. I still go back spite the service because the food is so good.

DO have patience when visitng. It’s family run establishment. If you’re in a rush, then, this is not the place for you. DO order their short stack of pancakes for breakfast! Not too fluffy, not too thin, just right! Plus, they’re only $ 4.95! DO order a gyro sandwich! Oh WOW! Talk about flavor! Sooo good! DO try their Horiatiki salad! Everything is always so fresh and delicious. DO bring your dog. It’s pet friendly :)

The only reason this place didn’t get a one star is because the food actually ended up being good. But every step leading up to finally being served our food was awful. I came here the day after Halloween. I’m not sure if they were understaffed because that’s how they normally choose to operate the business, or if this was a fluke, but after reading other Unilocal reviews about horrible service here, I feel that this is their MO. They only had two servers and one cook. They clearly needed to be better staffed. Upon arrival it took quite a few minutes to be greeted. There were tables available, but they needed to be cleared off. When we finally got seated, the server never brought us menus. I finally got up and got them myself. The servers were running around, clearly overwhelmed, and it led to terrible service. Tables around us got up without ever ordering. The table next to me was irate that they had been waiting over an hour for their breakfast, and when it finally came they had not gotten the order right. The coffee that I was served tasted disgusting — like the coffee maker had never been cleaned out. We also ended up waiting about an hour for our food to arrive, at which time I was already silently cursing Uncle Stavros, vowing to never return again and thinking to myself, «If I had just waited in the line at Tammy’s across the street, I probably would have been in and out of there in less time than here.» Alas, finally my breakfast arrived. I had ordered the gyro omelet, and it was the saving grace of the experience. The food was delicious, as was the homemade bread that the breakfast came with. Uncle Stavros, please do yourself a favor and up your staffing, work on increasing the friendliness of the servers you do currently have, provide service in a more timely manner, clean your coffee maker and then I would love to return for another gyro omelet.

Been coming here for 23 years with my parents! We love the Greek Omelette for breakfast. The staff is great and the atmosphere is inviting. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Don’t waste your time here. They do not have set hours, they never regularly open at any given time. Some mornings it 7am or 9am others they don’t even open at all. Where is the 0stars posting

Ordered the California Omlette and Girlfriend ordered the Athenian Gyro. They were both pretty good, but the presentation was lacking. She got her Gyro upside down and fell apart as soon as she moved it. My Omlette with«home fries» aka hash browns(here at least) tasted fine but was expecting actual home fries. Definitely a meal I could have made myself at home and without the attitude lol. The 2 star rating I gave is due to the service. It was slow and our waitress was very short and came off as rude. When we asked for the coffee menu she said they didn’t have one(even though the food menu clearly states there is one and to ask for it!). When I asked about the hash browns being home fries she’s shortly said«Yes» and walked away. It’s unfortunate as the location is great(30 feet away!), very open, and coffee is decent. A little customer service goes a long way especially if you’re looking to attract locals. We won’t be back, Tammy’s across the street will get our business when we want breakfast/brunch.

Charming café at the corner of Hermosa Ave and 2nd Ave, only few steps from the beach serving mix of Greek food, breakfasts, and American favorites like burgers and sandwiches. It is a family run and operated business so the service can be a little challenging at times since they are juggling too many things but I still like the chill vibe this place offer. My review is strictly based on Breakfast menu since I never tried anything else here. I order Omelet each and every time and it has been consistently good and portions are large. My two favorites are Spinach and mushroom omelet(No cheese) as well as Mediterranean omelet comes with Feta, tomatoes and spinach. Omelettes are served with Hash browns and fruits and home made bread. They also serve mimosa’s for breakfast, I like the fact they serve you cute little bottle of champagne with fresh squeezed orange juice vs water-down glass of mimosa.

My friend and I ate here for the first time last weekend. We were impressed by the gentleman walking around and checking in with customers, he’s extremely polite and very nice. But our server barely spoke a word and we didn’t notice her until we had been there several minutes waiting to order. I had a Greek salad and I added chicken which was an extra $ 5.00 for a four ounce breast. This made my salad a $ 20.00 salad and rarely is that worth it. The Greek salad was great, not worth $ 20, but still good. My chicken had clearly been frozen and reheated, it was rubbery and I couldn’t make myself eat it. My friend said his food was good but we were shocked at the high prices for a newer place with lost of competition. I think next time we’ll still to Mickey’s.
