Monte’s Sub Shop

Obviously they usually do a good job making the order, according to ratings, but who wants to be the 2% who gets home and finds that’s not what was ordered. I was one of 3 women in there, one picking up a called in –to go order. The other in front of me. Where’s the opportunity to mess up?
I placed an order for an Italian Monte. I speak very clearly, so I don’t know what the problem was. Maybe the ridiculously high counter… so high you can’t see the mistakes they are making… Then told her 3 different times what I wanted on it. Two items, one was onions, were not put on this sub that turned out to be similiar to a Full Monte without all the cheeses. When I order an Italian I want an Italian. What I don’t want is turkey and roast beef on my Italian sub. And left off «extras». Those are mistakes that shouldn’t be made. It’s a made as you order sub; made as you stand there.
The subs there lately have been ordinary at best. I don’t care for that rolled meat style they use either. I’ll just stop across town from now on (closer to home for me) and grab a sub that is just as ordinary, with flat placed meats, but especially what I ordered at a local chain sub shop. Less time, less stress. No wondering what eill be on my sub when I get home.
But if you’re on that end of the county and eating in, go ahead, it’s good enough. It’s out of the way for me so I expect better than this… I doubt I’ll go out of my way again.

Just ok. Nothing special. If you want a sandwich go hit this place up. The décor is plain. No real atmosphere. Not impressive.

Best sub shop in western NC. From the friendly greeting to the quick checkout, this place blows the pants off subway! It’s not fancy, just fantastic subs!

Great sandwiches! And they just added a taproom. I haven’t checked it out yet but that is definitely on my list. You can order online too!

Love it, love it, love it!!! If you have not had the Pear Ginger by New Belgium or the Horny Goat Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter… you are missing out!!! Did I mention the beer cheese made from French Broads Wee-​heavy-​er? AMAZING!!! Just sayin’.

Great place for a quick lunch. They use really tasty bread and high quality meats for their sandwiches. Service is quick and very friendly. I really liked the French dip. My daughter was very pleased with her grilled cheese from their kids menu. I’m excited for their taproom to open next door so they’ll have slightly later hours at the restaurant. Monte’s for dinner!

That gooey, yummy bread! That is it! That is the ticket! Oh and love the Lobster Bisque on Fridays!!! :)

Mom and Pop sub shop. Huge selection and you can turn any sandwich into a panini. They partner with Oscar Blues and have cans available on site. My favorite is the Italian.

Subs are awesome! I just wish they had hot options besides a Panini press. The daily specials are always great.

Hard to choose on my first visit… Did I want today’s special club? The Italian with cappicola? A salad?
Got a delicious Cubano, a lovely craft beer (session IPA), and some kettle chips. No regrets, except that it may be a while before I can return.
Good food fast with friendly service.

The best French Dip I have ever eaten. Great lunch stop! The white bread they have makes the sandwich. Not your average sub shop.

Been eating here almost since day 1. My whole family LOVES Monte’s. The staff are always great and the food is creative and tasty. My favorite is the Italian! Either as a wrap or a sub. SO GOOD!

We were driving through the area looking for a place to grab lunch and happened to spot this local gem. Delicious subs and very friendly service! We had the ham, turkey, and provolone sandwich and the tuna melt – both were top quality. I found the small with a side salad or bag of chips to be a good portion size.
Take-​aways: great subs, friendly service – a local business I am happy to support. I’ll be back!

One of the best sub shops around. Great bread which is a must on any sub. Friendly staff. The meat is fresh and tasty. A must try for anyone looking for a good sandwich.

This is the best sub shop in town. I used to work very close to Monte’s and there was never an argument in the office as to where we were going to eat. We would each drive to Monte’s as if on autopilot. Just take the drive about 2 miles north of town to find this small, unassuming sub shop.
The people who run this place are extremely friendly too! Enjoy.

The egg salad on wheat hoagie roll, nothing else, is a complete perfection platter. Get it!

In a word, outstanding. We shot a profile of the business. This shooter and my soundman both agree the subs here are outstanding. Many sub shops place bits of meat on the sandwich in carefully measured micrograms, Monte’s just loads on the goodies. These are true, two handed, subs. And, they have picnic tables in a nice setting in the building’s back yard. Monte’s is a keeper.
