I came for a simple drug screen unfortunately it could not be completed at the facility, I wasted a complete hour waiting .When I mentioned my urgency of using the restroom, for my drug screen I was given no information on how long it would be. They would not even ask the nurses. I had zero assistance, consideration and wasted 100 percent of my time. Also I would like to say it wasn’t the entire front desk staff but mainly the younger one who act like I was bothering her with my problem hence its a clinic where problems are supposed to be solved.

It has almost been a week and I’m still a little conflicted about writing this review. They didn’t fix what was wrong with me. They did a seemingly unnecessary X-Ray. But, they did refer me to someone who did(easily) fix the problem and got me in that same day. So, what should probably be 2 stars is going to be 3 stars, just for the referral. Long story short, I swallowed either a small bone or a grill brush bristle on a Sunday night. It got stuck in my tonsil and I couldn’t get it out. Since Pelican State is close to my daughter’s school, I dropped her off and went to get some relief from the pain I had been enduring from the night before. They open at 8:00am Monday. I arrived at about 8:20am. They called me in around 9:00am. Doctor did a quick look in my mouth with a light and said she couldn’t see anything. In fact, they all kind of acted like I was probably imagining it. They did an X-Ray but again, supposedly didn’t see anything other than a little hairline that probably wasn’t related. She managed to get me in to an ENT specialist near East Jeff, though, as long as I could drive there in 40 mins. So, $ 150 poorer because of the X-Ray, I was on my way, with copies of the X-Ray in hand. Note: ENT didn’t even look at the X-Ray. All he did was use 2 tongue depressors to look a bit further into my throat, found the thing, and got it out of my tonsil. He also did a scope to make sure it was all out. So, if this ever happens to you, skip the Urgent Care center all together, and try to find an ENT to fix you up. Cheaper and easier. No unnecessary X-Ray costs.

First time I’ve used their services, although a friend uses them regularly in place of a family GP. My family doctor was on vacation and answering service said to use an urgent care facility for routine ailments. Pelican was covered by my insurance. The whole visit took about 75 minutes from sign in to release. That included signing the expected new patient forms, seeing the nurse to get vital signs, waiting on the doctor, then waiting for the nurse to give me a shot. If they had not made me wait to see if I had a reaction to the medicine, I would have been done in less than an hour. I also could have saved a little time filling out their forms which are found on their website. It’s a fair size facility, lots of staff. There is plenty of parking. You might not get the same level of care and attention as from your family doctor, but the experience was acceptable. It’s never fun having to go to a doctor in the first place.
