Still always delighted with my meals, service and impeccably fresh ingredients — never oily, portions great, vegetable always crisp. Stopped in for a quick and healthy sit-down lunch between clients and within 20 min I was on my way or the door satisfied.

This was my first visit. We had summer rolls, tom yum goong, and drunken noodles with chicken. Everything was delicious, but the tom yum in particular was unforgettably flavorful. We will be back for sure. As has been mentioned, there is no parking directly next to the building, except for one or two spots out front for a quick pickup of take-out orders. But there is a side street behind the restaurant that has on-street parking, and at night there are a couple of nearby businesses that aren’t open where I assume it’s okay to park. Just don’t park in the KFC parking lot next door!

Always great with fresh, delicious Thai food. This is a small, quaint restaurant with a very nice vibe. Never a rush. Everything I have tried has been terrific but I am a big fan of pad woonsen, glass noodles. Also, their Tom Yum Goong, and especially the Tom Yum Noodle, are amazing. All the curry dishes rock, too. You just can’t go wrong here!

Since I started coming here in my college days I haven’t stopped. This spot is always quality and friendly service. A hole in the wall that does it right on many levels. Never had a bad experience.

I went here with my family recently, and while it was decent Thai food, I don’t think I’d call it awesome. First, the parking: be warned, there isn’t much. There’s 60 minute street parking(and if you have a large party, this probably won’t be long enough for you), a side street without much room between driveways, and tiny areas in front and back that will fit two, maybe 3, cars. The restaurant itself is small but was able to fit our party of 8, another party of 6 adults, and one of 4 adults and 2 kids all at the same time, plus it still had more room on the opposite side for several small or a couple of larger parties. The food was decent. Our table ordered the dumplings and Siam rolls for appetizers and they tasted like regular shumai and vegetarian egg rolls. Our table had a few different entrees: pad Thai with beef, chicken Rama, drunken noodles with chicken, green curry, dancing squid and the fisherman’s somethingorother platter. The noodle serving sizes were rather small for the $ 10 they charged for dinner, and the drunken noodles were rather dry and the noodles very broken up. We asked for the peanut sauce on the side of the chicken Rama and while that was confirmed while ordering, it came on top. Otherwise, we were happy with the entrees. I had the black rice pudding for dessert which was very good. It was black sticky rice with coconut milk, basically, but it was satisfying. The service was pretty attentive, but we had to ask for water refills several times. We got our food in a timely manner considering how many people were in the restaurant, and the place was clean and pleasant to eat in. They did give us another table’s check but were quick to fix it. And as a warning, they seem to charge automatic 18% gratuity on parties of 6 or more. This is no problem as our family routinely gives around 20%. A few of us had, ahem, minor gastric issues the next morning, but we’re not sure if this restaurant was necessarily the culprit. Overall pleasant, but nothing special. We’ll try somewhere different next time.

Maybe I got the wrong dish… but I really didn’t enjoy the food. I got drunken noodle with tofu and they forgot the tofu. Which is fine, no big deal. But the food was swimming in oil. I couldn’t even finish my whole meal even though I was hungry enough to do so. I would give it another shot but I would maybe get a rice dish, curry or a bunch of appetizers instead.

I’ve been to Thai Awesome three times. I won’t be back. Recommended by a friend who is a vegetarian but I think this may explain many of the great reviews. The vegetables are always fresh and well prepared but the proteins are just awful. I’ve had the toughest pork I’ve ever experienced in my life there and the worse scallops I’ve ever had The yellow curry was uninspired and really had just one note. The sweet and sour was simply sugar. The staff are extremely friendly and despite very limited parking at the restaurant itself — parking on the street is easy. This restaurant displays none of the complex flavors of Thai food.

Bad service. Messed up my order twice. Never going there again. First, someone else picked up my order. Then, as they were remaking it… they messed it up again. and had the audacity to give me an attitude for their mistake.

This place hands down has some of the best thai food ever! It’s such a little gem. It may not look like much from the outside but they say don’t judge a book by its cover! My friend and I split the Pad Thai and Cashew Chicken. Everything, including the service, was incred.

Simply the BEST Thai food around, if you’re looking for fast, tasty, and wallet-friendly. We’ve dined in but mostly do take-out and we’re never disappointed. The staff is wonderful and friendly no matter which option you choose. Seriously. We cheated once with a delivery Thai place and decided to never sacrifice Awesome for Meh again for the sake of convenience(and, if we’re being honest, laziness.) My favorite dishes are the Nam Sod with a side of rice(more than a full meal) and their Massaman Curry is also very well done. Small tip: be prepared to park on the street if its a busy night for them — space is extremely limited and you will be towed if you try to park in KFC’s lot next door.

We’ve been several times and just haven’t enjoyed it– the pad thai has consistently been way too sweet(had been hoping that we first just caught an off night…). The staff have consistently been friendly, though.

Overly sweet. Everything was pretty sugary, as Thai places often are when dealing with people unfamiliar with Thai food. Service was nice, but I would order fresh stuff without much sauce to avoid the candylike taste,

The food is too too too sweet, at least for me. The staff explained that they recently got a new chef and that is why. I had eaten a lot of Thai food before, but none of them is as sweet as they are. I went there because of the lots of positive reviews on Unilocal, but I am a little disappointed. The Thai sampler is ok. And chili chili fish tastes good

My wife and I love the food here, but on two separate occasions I found a long strand of black hair in my pad Thai. That certainly shouldn’t happen at all, let alone twice.

W used to live down the street from Thai Awesome so it was the usual go to for take away. We now live 20+ minutes away, but still call in our order for yellow curry and som tum or tom kah gai and drive here to pick out up. It’s worth the inconvenience. The staff have always been pleasant, the food always flavorful, as desired and never any complaints. Parking is not ideal as they don’t have a lot and street parking is challenging, but it didn’t deter us!

Food is too pricey. You can get so much better and cheaper food at other Thai restaurants. I love Thai food, and I tried so many Thai restaurants in town. This one is my least favorite. Had this for New Year’s Eve, I feel kind of disappointed. Don’t know how does the 4 star overall statues come. But I definitely won’t recommend it.(ps. Some nice Thai food restaurants like’bangkok garden’,‘siam Thai’ ‚‘Thai noodle house’…you can do much better!

Okay, I’ll agree with the name; pretty awesome. Came here with my boyfriend and two friends on Saturday. Small place, weird to park(we parked in front because we could), but friendly staff and very good food! The menu was thorough but not completely overwhelming — they knew what dishes they were good at. All of us ordered some form of curry — I had the yellow curry with squid, pineapple, baby corn, etc. Terrific! It was pretty hot so I took half of it home and had a tasty lunch yesterday. Prices were fair. Place was a bit quiet(I think at one point the music turned off and it was one of those weird quiet scenarios where you felt the other tables looking at each other like oh no, they can hear us now!) but otherwise the ambiance was fine.

Yum! We moved from San Diego, where they have pretty good thai food, so I was worried about my options in Hamden. Luckily, I work @ yale and tried Thai Awesome for lunch at their cart and loved it. Went back here with the hubby, and it was even better when made fresh. I got the massaman curry, which is excellent. It’s like a peanut sauce/curry hybrid. The curry itself isn’t too thick, but has great depth of flavor. I also got a side of sticky rice that was tasty, and their thai iced tea is yummy. Great place, and reasonably priced too!

Sixty-four Unilocal reviewers rated Thai Awesome four stars. Reviewer # 65 certainly agrees. First of all, you really have to love a place with the epic name of «Thai Awesome»! That sets the bar pretty high don’t you think? We stopped in for an early Saturday dinner before catching a Quinnipiac hockey game. Thai Awesome is a little larger inside than you would expect, it must have had a dozen or so tables and booths. Service was prompt and friendly. We tried three dishes– the old standard Pad Thai($ 9.99), a Green Curry with Chicken(also $ 9.99), and a Chef Special called Dancing Squid($ 12.99) for me. The Squid was advertised as spicy and it was –but to me it was perfectly spicy. It had a definite burn to it, but in a nice way. Delicious squid, carrots, onions, green beans in a spicy garlic sauce with rice. A Terrific dish. I sampled the other two. The Pad Thai was very flavorful and had a nice sauce to it –sometimes Pad Thai is served a little dry, The Green Curry was wonderful — a velvety curry with sweet/tart pineapple. A real nice dish. Bottom line? Three very good meals for $ 35.06. Nice service, nice comfortable dining room. The only odd thing I noticed was the men’s room was as small as the one on Southwest Airlines !!
