A great stop near half moon bay for authentic, friendly comfort food. Everything was delicious including the chili, Mac and cheese and pulled pork sandwich.

The hosts are very nice and courteous. The food is very mediocre and expensive for what you get.

Really was excited for the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw but just one bite and I was mad about wasting my cheat meal on it Mac and cheese was decent while the potato fritters were on point. Out of all 4 of us, the regular grilled cheese on white bread that our 11 year old had was by far the best. Will go back, but only for that and potatoes.

Solid BBQ spot! We had the pulled pork«hog’s breath» sandwich and one of the hot dogs — both were really good and tasted better than they looked in these pictures. The mac and cheese is made with smoked Gouda and topped with panko, which I loved. It’s the perfect texture, not too mushy or too heavy/cheesy. I’m not usually a fan of cole slaw, but I liked theirs because they don’t drown the cabbage in dressing. It was more like a cabbage cole slaw«salad» to me than the cole slaw I typically think of. Great no-frills place to grab a quick bite to go, or sit there for a few minutes if there’s an open table!

Awesome! Hogs breath, gold miner, chug’n slaw were fantastic! I’m from the south so my BBQ standards are higher than average. Solid spot. Will definitely be coming here whenever I come to half moon bay.

Check it out if u are in the Half Moon Bay. Area or just passing thru. Located right off the freeway in the corner of a small shop/business center, you cannot miss seeing them in their railroad caboose. Good BBQ food, creative and lots of flavor. I was impress!

Located off the highway, you won’t miss the yellow train. Definitely a perfect place to grub after or before heading to the beach in half moon bay! The Hogs Breath. The most popular and recommended order! The bun was so soft, and I definitely wasn’t expecting it but it paired perfectly with the pulled pork. Everytime i would take a bite, the coleslaw would add some crunch along with some crunchy bits from the pork. AMAZING. Not too much sauce, just the perfect amount. By the way, the hogs breath is pretty big and filling so you’ll be good if you have a big appetite.

It’s just a big yellow box car with a patio in a parking lot but the food and service was gourmet and amazing. The little fell’er burger was actually huge and incredible — great meat with toppings and a sauce with a little kick to it. My family also had the pulled pork sandwich and the chili dog and loved the portion size and awesome taste. We had the sides of Mac and cheese and the potatoes and loved them — wished we had got a bigger size! Mary was super nice and personable and will deliver your order to your car if you are on the go. We will stop by again!

I’ll keep this brief: loads of flavour, charming service, very reasonable prices, pleasant outdoor environment. They even let you bring your own beer. Hard to fault really, so an unreserved 5 stars.

Deeeelicious!!! Got the hogs breath and fire in the hole with a small side of coleslaw. It was about $ 25 for it all. They really put some love in their food because it was finger lickin good! So glad we got to stop by on our way to half moon bay. Definitely a must!

Off of hwy 1, right before turning onto 92 and the nurseries, is a bright yellow food… train serving quick eats such as hot dogs and grilled cheese. I got the railway grilled cheese with mushroom and wine jam, so deliciously crispy and oily that you question if it was deep fried. The unhealthy take on wine/cheese/crackers. Also ordered the 49 sausage, homemade bratwurst for the day. Good meat but drowned in mustard. It was a piece of work to sort through that mess and get to the good stuff. Stop light chili was rated just OK by my friend who has been spoiled from texas expectations. More filling than it looks. Bit overpriced.

Half Moon Bay, CA Southbound away from Main St. on Highway 1. Popped in later in the day on a Sunday and picked up a cup of chowder to go. Everything about it tasted well but it was SUPER Salty(couldn’t finish it). Perhaps cause it was end of the day… If this is the case it shouldn’t be served. Can’t knock it to a Two Banger, so A-Ok until next time.

I love this place! I normally hit hmb when I have a rough day in the office. My first stop is aways Daddy-Os! I usually grab the food to go so I can chill at one of the many beaches in the area. The food here is amazing the have a new sausage flavor everyday. The steak sandwich is the f-ing bomb! Warning they do tend to sell out so get here early! Seating is small but spread out enough for everyone to enjoy. So if you’re ever in the area jump on and let them take you for a food adventure.

Absolutely delicious place and employees(must be the owners) are so kind! I came right when they were closing up for thanksgiving break, and they were so gracious to stay open a little longer for us to grab some grub. I got the railroad x-ing and my brother got a simple plain dog with three toppings. The railroad x-Ing had a hefty amount of chili, which makes it worth the price, and the soft bread with it tasted so good! Also got a side of their gold miner(basically hashbrowns) since they recommended it, and it’s another great addition to add to your meal. Not essential if you’re not a heavy eater(I got full pretty fast), but I’m glad I tried it. Overall a great place! Well obviously more than great, I’m writing my first review on them.

Comida boa, mas o local não é indicado para dias de chuva! Mesas e cadeiras ao ar livre. Fui em um dia chuvoso e frio. O que salvou foi a pimenta do prato. Consegui me aquecer!

The clam chowder is sooo goood! Small for $ 5. Pretty pricey yes but wait until you try other things in their menu, they were all pricey imo. The old 49ers, a hot dog with some fried bell peppers and onions, still I dont think it’s worth $ 10 for it.

When this place opened up in 2012, I thought it was just a gimmicky road side stop catering to day tripping visitors on weekends so never bothered to try it. Fast forward to August 2015, while looking for new restaurants to try in HMB, I see the 4.5 star ratings and decided to finally give this a go. Tried the Little Feller(basically a long burger in a hot dog bun) and the Realway Railway, the grilled cheese sandwich with mushrooms and a tangy sweet sauce. It was a nice lunch — both items were really yummy! Especially enjoyed the grownup version of the grilled cheese sandwich. The balance of sweet and savory was on point and bread was perfectly crisp but not too oily. Small seating area for around 5 tables in the enclosure. Other seating available in the plaza so you can enjoy it to go if no more tables. Recommend calling and placing order ahead since there seems to be a line on weekends.

This little hot dog stand is kind of hard to miss. It’s built out of the back of an old train car, that is bright yellow and easily seen from any which way you come. The dining area is very small, and because the place is so popular you can either wait around for someone to get up, or you can take it to go. The cool part is they also have a drive up service where you can order and they bring the food out to your car. The menu is at eye level and the waitress took our order up on the balcony of the train car. I ordered the Dog-Gone Wrong; a ¼ pound, 8-inch hot dog with your choice of three condiments. I chose pickle relish, diced onions, and tomato slices. The dog came out lightly charred, juicy, and with skin that snaps as you bite into it. We also ordered their macaroni and cheese; Mac the Knife. A small container of creamy mac and cheese made with my favorite cheese ever, Gouda. The mac is smoked, and believe me you can really taste it. The combination of good cheese, spices, and the smoke, this mac is one for the ages. The servers working here are very nice and friendly, plus extremely fast. They don’t have bathrooms on sight, but they have a key for the public restroom that’s located inside the building that’s directly next to Daddy o’s.

We drive down from San Francisco just for this little piece of heaven in a train car. Our second time here and it was SOGOOD. Ordered a small Mac the Knife, Hogs Breath(pulled pork sandwich like you’ve never had before) and a Railroader(chili dog the size of three fists!). Followed it up with a smores cookie that Mrs. Fields could try for YEARS and still never make something half as good. This is our FAVORITE lunch spot in 50 square miles and we will be back over and over and over!

It’s been more than a year since trying this place. We were driving home from our Big Sur trip and decided to grab lunch here. Lady who served us was nice and helpful. I don’t fully remember everything we got. Clam chowder was really tasty! Mac and cheese was flavorful and creamy. Hog’s breath was delicious too. I love the whole idea of this place. I’ve been thinking about this place, time to drag the husband to this place again.

Thanks to Unilocal and a couple of my local Unilocal friends, I found this place on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Yes this is bit awkward ordering when looking up to a platform that appears 10 feet high, and they were already out of the Old 49er when we got there but the food is freshly prepared and brought to your table. We had their following(take directly from their menu): Hog’s Breath $ 9.75 «Pork shoulder, rubbed with our house blend of 11 spices and slowly cooked. The pulled meat is lightly grilled in pork au jus, served on a steamed Hoagie roll with a drizzle of sweet & spicy BBQ sauce and topped off with our extraordinary coleslaw.» Railroad X-ing $ 8.25 «Diced chicken with six spices, grilled with red onions and sweet peppers, placed over organic long grain and black rice, topped with our spicy-chipotle-yogurt-cayenne sauce and fresh diced tomatoes.» So this is not a place you want to take someone for a fine dining experience – the outdoor seating area is not really protected from the elements and you are sitting on blacktop on small chairs eating on take-out containers with cheap plastic forks. This a relaxed, casual, nice-day kind of place to enjoy. That said, the food is what shined, albeit at a premium for the Hog’s Breath. The Hog’s Breath is very very good. What disappointed was only that it felt small for the price(but I know how long it takes to do a great BBQ pork) and the bun was not anything but a hoagie-wannabe. If the bun had been upgraded to a real Italian hoagie(or even French baguette) or something that would have provided a bit of chew and crust/crunch, the sandwich would have been a solid five stars for me. Pork flavors and sauce was excellent and the coleslaw was great. My wife had the Railroad X-ing and said that when she first got it, she thought that she got the ‘lesser’ of our two orders. We could not have been more wrong. This is an excellent dish that was 5 stars for us. Loved the flavors, fresh grilled peppers and that sauce was just perfect for the juicy chunks of chicken. Definitely a great dish – far from what I would have expected from Daddy-O’s, which I would have initially pegged as a BBQ-only place. We spoke to a patron that came all the way from Burlingame to enjoy the weather and the food there and she highly recommended the clam chowder and we are going back.
