This place was great. We had some channa(chickpeas) and some spinach and mustard green purée with potatoes as our mains, samosas as an appetizer, and a small dessert. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. I would love to eat here again on future visits to Greenville.

It’s so good! I’m not going to lie, it’s a hole in the wall. The atmosphere is such a hoot. The food is affordable and delicious.

Great place. Great food. Great people. The duo(the couple husband and wife who owns this place) are lovely and you have to admit they know what an authentic north indian food tastes like. Coming from Illinois, I visited Swad for the first time here and it was as good as it gets. The night I went there with my friend, it was pretty quiet and cozy, I started a little chit chat with the owner and soon we became friends :) We had dosa, pau bhaji and Chole Poori and the food was really good. It’s pretty mild too in case you’re worried about those cliched of Indian food being spicy(not to miss that it still is spicy but relatively mild).)We were the last one to leave before closing. Mr. Anil Parikh came to know that I am a visitor here and guess what? He called up a toast. We cheered Sangria together(with he didn’t even charged us for)! I didn’t buy grocery so don’t know much about it, there’s just an aisle there for Indo Pak grocery stuff, looks pretty nice though. Also, they said they close sharp at 9 so be on time if your ever wanna swing by.

Excellent quick Indian meal, all vegetarian. Casual lunch atmosphere where customers talk to each other and with owner, it’s a bit like eating at someone’s home! Thali is my favorite, a little bit of everything.

Well, I’ll never be visiting Swad again. In visited at a little after 1:30 today. NOONE was in the store. Both employees that were working(the owners, I believe) looked up at us when we walked in. We chose our seat and waited. And waited. And waited. No one ever acknowledged us. No one ever took so much as a drink order from us. No one said hello. After 10 – 15 minutes of this, we left. And we won’t ever be back.

This is probably the most authentic Indian food I’ve had since moving to South Carolina(aside from what friends cook). The restaurant is quaint and includes a small grocery store. Service was fast and friendly. Food was delicious!

Love coming to this hole in the wall spot for lunch. I feel like I’m eating in an Indian friend’s grandmother’s kitchen. Everything I’ve tried has been palatable, but recommend the samosas particularly. I always order vegetarian when eating Indian so love the variety of options hete, but even husband who is usually partial to chicken tiki masala requests to dine here.

Try Dosas and Thalis. Because you will not get Dosas in any other indian restaurants. The owner(I call him Uncle) is friendly. Chat with him you will enjoy. I like Chai here.

This is where I can find Basmati rice since all the Indian grocery stores moved out to Woodruff road! They have a tiny selection of Indian grocery and products. I have yet to try the food here. I’m not sure how allergic I am to everything but maybe one day I will try when I am brave enough. The thali platter of multiple side dishes looks tempting. I hear everything here is vegetarian. Smells great. Very homey.

A local sent us this way. A hole in the wall place for sure. Very friendly and accommodating staff. But we heard microwave ovens working in the kitchen. The Rava Masala Dosa was very good and spicy. The Veg. Korma was a bit of a small portion and I have had better. With Authentic in the description was that to mean we would have some take-home Hepatitis and spicy hot-explosive diarrhea. So far 24-hr later, no issues.

Had a delicious experience! My parents and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. We had aloo gobi, kofta curry, and baingan bharta. Seriously recommend all of them. Also ask for the homemade samosa’s. Perfect sized meal that doesn’t leave you feeling too full. Vegetarian restaurants are a nice twist from the regular!

Food is ok. Their uttapam is great, the best I had there. Every thing else is average, some food was not cooked properly, some things I couldn’t eat at all. I can claim I’m pretty experienced in Indian food due to my constant visit to Indian restaurants internationally and when eating at friends’ houses. I even cook it myself! This may be good to other people but it did not meet my expectations.

Everything there is microwaved! I went because of the high reviews, thinking maybe it would be good. If you pay attention. every time an order is placed you can hear the sounds of a microwave having time pressed into a microwave, and it beeping when finished. I ordered the vegetable korma, and heard it get put into the microwave. When you look at the shelves of the grocery store you see they have a large selection of microwave dinners. My vegetable korma came out and was nothing like korma is supposed to be. Korma is traditionally creamy smooth, delicate with nuts in it. Their version which was $ 10 came out far from that. My best guess,(which comes from the fact that every time I heard an order being placed the microwave was going and the minute it beeped the store owner took someone their food) is that every meal comes from one of those microwave 2 $ packages. I understand this place isn’t very large or fancy, but a mom and pop restaurant should be preparing food from their home and hearts, not selling 1.50−2.00 food that they pushed a button on for $ 10.00, not to mention it was disgusting. The naan that came with my food had the premade, store bought, stale taste as well. A very huge waste of money, I will for sure never be returning.

My wife spotted Swad online in our prep for a weekend workshop and it was delicious. We follow a vegan diet, and try to avoid added oil and we were very happy with our dishes. We also got three items to go for us to eat later in the hotel and can’t wait to dig into those! A plus was that the super-friendly owner gave us the names of several Indian restaurants to try when we get back home to Atlanta. If we come to Greenville in the future, we will definitely come back here.

I’ve eaten here twice and loved it both times. I see a lot of reviews comparing it to the larger Indian restaurants in the Greenville area, which I’ve also been too. I don’t even see that as a relevant comparison. This place is quite figuratively, and actually literally, a mom and pop type place. The owner has been nothing but personable and actually served me himself both times. Even had a full conversation about my food when I couldn’t finish it due to the spiciness. He ended up bringing me yogurt to cool the heat so I could finish my plate. Quite the nice gesture as I loved the food and didn’t want to waste anything. If you’re all into fancy place settings and environment this isn’t a place for you. Indian groceries are for sell on the left of the store, which I find nice. If you’re not familiar with Indian food it would be a great chance to investigate while you wait on your meal. Food is made within your site since there is an open window to the kitchen. My food, even while being freshly prepared, came in a very timely manner. I can imagine there would be a slightly longer wait if there were more customers there since the restaurant is so small. Last meal I had there was the Channa Masala and garlic naan with Samosa as an appetizer. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Hit the spot for me for sure. Also ordered a Rose milkshake before I left. Such an interesting choice and pretty delicious. I advise that you don’t order it unless you’re actually aware what rose tastes like. For example from having it in a tea. I think the average person would say it tastes like potpourri.

It’s been a while since we visited SWAD… and if it’s been a while for you, too… GOBACK! At some point, they’ve expanded their menu to include a much more extensive selection. We went for lunch and sampled our way through 4 items we haven’t had before, and all were excellent. As before, the restaurant is «½ tables, ½ grocery», so don’t go expecting fine linens and china… this is just straightfoward, delicious vegetarian Indian food. I really enjoyed their expanded tea selection, too. The staff are always friendly and pleasant, too. SWAD has definitely earned it’s way back into our regular Greenville restaurant rotation.

The mango lassi was perfection, thick, creamy, not to sweet. I am a big fan of samosas and Swad’s version is one of the best i’ve had! Fried to perfection, comfort food goodness. The garlic naan/naan that came with my meal good have been better, a bit on the chewy side. The daily special was an array of potato and pea curry, lentils, and other things that I didn’t know what they were but I didn’t care because it was all so good! The palak paneer was good, seasoned well, and creamy, but I wish it came with another side. Overall: Really yummy and authentic! The staff was attentive and super nice. I felt like I was eating at an aunties house! Everything was seasoned very well you won’t even think twice about everything being vegetarian! I will definitely be dining here again soon to try more of the menu! Pros: Yummy food, friendly staff. Cons: The naan could be better. Small place, not so good for large parties. All vegetarian might be a con for some people but I say don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!
