My favorite place to buy vinyls, although I did like the old location a bit better. They did a good job keeping the same selection as their last place that was much larger

Unilocal should just change the name to Earshot. Avoid confusion. When I first moved in from Los Angeles, I was worried about having to go to Best Buy for my auditory needs, but Earshot came through(Tigers Jaw! I was ASTOUNDED they had it in stock). It’s bigger and has a wider selection than Horizon on Stone and Main, and I’ve never found the staff tone condescending. Sure, it’s no Amoeba in West Hollywood or Berkeley, but it’s still an awesome local record store. Movies, shirts, posters, incense, music mags, candy!, kitschy toys, even clever indie jewelry are all over the place. Support your local music store and come check them out!

Dismissing the critical issue of Skeeviness from shared headphones, especially considering the clientele, this store was before the new management and continues to be after the changeover, an exercise in self-congratulatory coolness for the sake of itself. Translation? The staff firmly believes they are superior to you in every way despite what their paychecks may say. Back in the day — and I’m talking 1986 here, when Manifest first came to Greenville — it was a relatively counter-culture business. It was the only music store at the time, besides the small non-jazz offerings from Horizon Records, that provided that sorely needed shot in the Punk Rock arm. They worked hard to get items in the store so you’d keep coming back. The staff knew you by name. Manifest became a chain as time went on and the service and surliness of the $ 5/an hour staff certainly came to reflect that. For anyone thinking that this is not a corporation, I invite you to check out their website. Still in all, I suppose Greenville has done and could do worse. I still maintain, however, that to be impressed with this place is to admit you haven’t traveled.

use to be called Manifest but has been bought out about a year ago — now it’s called EARSHOT. Honestly, being a music whore and traveled the country quite extensively, this is one of the best CD shops you’ll find, especially for independent music. Not as good as ZIA’s in Arizona but it has that same feel — large space with workers who love music. Great used CDs as well. If you love music — you can spend hours here. Hightly recommended.
