We purchased a groupon and decided to try and give rock climbing a shot. I have not been since I was very little and my fiancé was a rookie. We were lined up with an instructor who clearly was bored and tired of teaching noobies how to rock climb. However, he still showed us what to do and made sure we safely did it. We came on a Saturday afternoon and had an all day pass. Keep in mind they open for non-members at 2pm. They only have 2 beginner walls which was kind of a let down, as we had to wait and take turns with other people to climb them. We were forced to learn on a harder wall to start with. All in all a great workout as my arms were gassed at the end. And it was fun to get to the top of some of those walls and look down feeling accomplished! I hope they add another beginner/intermediate wall but otherwise a great place to try rock climbing for your first time or if you are a seasoned veteran.

This gym is super tiny. What really pissed me off is how they charge you five dollars for belay training when you already know how to do it and have been doing it outside. No matter your skill level, if it is your first time they will charge you five dollars for one of the staff members to come and watch you, literally watch! The routes are pretty close to what I would expect when lead climbing outside, however there are not many routes. Also, this place actually charges a little higher for people who bring their own gear and just want to climb. I would not recommend climbing at this gym for all skill level because first, they don’t have an auto delay system for beginners and for people who want to climb on their own, second, there are not many routes available for you to climb. Lastly, not the typical staff friendly people I am used to seeing at a climbing gym.

I have been to other rock gym in Atlanta and a few in Athens while I was at UGA, but was overall not impressed with the customer service and attention to other climbers. Tumblebees was awesome. All of the staff was friendly especially Cory who gave my friend and I a tutorial on climbing safety. After the class she even stuck around to just climb and give us tips on paths to take up the walls. The music playing was also a great addition to the climbing experience. I was overall VERY please and will be coming back every friday.

This is the best indoor wall climbing experience I’ve ever had. Complete with both a bouldering room and a larger climbing room, this place is amazing. It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned pro or a rookie, you can walk right in and have a great time. The staff is wonderful at showing you how to tie your ropes so you don’t drop your wife off the wall(unless you want to I guess but I wouldn’t recommend this :)). And if you have any questions, they’re available. They even helped us navigate the more difficult walls. The only negatives are your hands will turn into claws by the end of the night. And if you fall, your crotch will hurt if you’re a dude. Both of those carry over for any climbing wall though. :) We can’t wait to go back!

I’ve never been in the gymnasium of Tumblebees but I am huge fan of the rock climbing walls. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and will show you different climbing techniques. I recommend going with at least one friend, as they don’t always have people there to belay you.
