They’re pretty good. Menu is fairly indistinguishable from other Mexican takeout places I’ve had in the greater Huntington area, but their execution is always excellent, service is usually pretty good too(you know — for takeout). While my favorite takeout place is in Huntington, I’m perfectly happy to order from here whennever I can — guess that says something as I drive all the way into Huntington or East Northport if I want Chinese. This restaurant is located in a fairly busy strip mall, with ample parking. The food is made to order, so it takes a significant amount of time from when you place your order to when you actually get it. The restaurant appears fairly clean, but not clean enough for an eating establishment. The food is fresh and tastes pretty good. Honestly, the meals are nothing special. Staff members are friendly and pleasant. Here’s the issue: why am I paying top dollar for inexpensive food items, such as beans and rice? There is absolutely no justifiable reason why the prices need to be so high. The preparation and ingredients are basic, you are not getting table service, and the interior really needs an overhaul. Way too pricey for what is being offered. Be forewarned.

Chicken quesadilla with a tiny cup of guacamole was $ 12+. Doesn’t come with chips. Not enough cheese, not enough chicken, not enough sour cream. Tasted ok. The guacamole was more yellow than green and more bland than yellow. Felt sick afterwards.

Five stars are on a balance beam. The first four stars walk confidently across and the last star is struggling to make his way down, wobbling back and forth. He gets close to the end and falls off right before finishing and we are left with only 4 stars. I was home on Long Island for Thanksgiving break and my family suggested this place which I was very skeptical about since I had never been and couldn’t understand why we weren’t going to our usual joint. I went with it though and scanned our take out menu. So many different options and my favorite part was that they had something for everybody. If you felt like pigging out, they had nachos(many different kinds; dorito nachos, fajita nachos, buffalo chicken nachos, tex mex chili nachos and so on) jalapeño poppers, coconut shrimp and wings. However, if you felt like being healthy, they had Low Carb platter options consisting of your choice of chicken, blackened chicken, steak or shrimp with grilled vegetables and melted cheese. There were so many different kinds of burritos and they encourage you to custom build your own if you don’t see an option you’re favorable of. They offer whole wheat wraps, which is a huge plus. Also, another option that goes over well in my family is to have your burrito in a bowl instead of in the wrap. Here’s my only negative comment about this place and why I was torn between the four or five star review; the place isn’t cheap, it’s just not. There are other gigs in town that advertise burritos for $ 7 and change and here they are around the $ 9 — $ 10 range. Their nachos are $ 10 and for the price I felt like the portion was puny. $ 3.50 for a 4 ounce side of guacamole is too much. You can make any of your burritos enchilada style by having them add enchilada sauce and melted cheese on top, awesome, except that costs an additional $ 2 for a little sauce and cheese, again, too much. Enchiladas are $ 13-$ 14.50. They have a large selection of salads, ranging from $ 9 to $ 12. Most of the salads do already have meat on them but to add additional meat is VERY pricy. $ 5.50 for additional steak, $ 5.25 for additional chicken, $ 6.25 for additional shrimp, you don’t see prices like that even at sit down fine dining restaurants so this really took me off guard. The only time I will pay $ 18 for a salad is at a nice sit down dinner, not at a Mexican Grill. Not a problem when you’re dining alone, but as a family, that adds up and it turns out to be very expensive. With that being said, the food was phenomenal. We had an array of Burritos, Wraps, Burrito Bowls and Low Carb Platters and everybody was happy with their meal. Still thought the Buffalo Nachos was a very small portion for the price, however. I got the Low Carb Platter with Grilled Chicken and no cheese. The amount of chicken in the dish was very plentiful and the vegetables tasted SO delicious. Hands down the best tasting grilled chicken and vegetables I have ever had at a Mexican place. When I came in to pick up the food, I was disappointed that they didn’t have a salsa bar with house made salsa, only the ones that came in the bottle you can buy at any grocery store. When I paid for my food, however, I asked about salsa and she gave me a few mild, few hot and two pico de gallo. I wish they had these salsas out, because if I hadn’t asked, I would have had no idea. I felt bad asking for two for each order, but that’s what we really wanted. The mild salsa was probably the best I’ve tasted. It was incredibly fresh, awesome flavor, cilantro so delicious. Their hot was HOT and not the kind of hot that burned your mouth so badly that you couldn’t taste your food, the kind of hot that enhanced your meal, awesome flavor. The woman working the counter was so nice and friendly, we were very happy with everything overall. I will definitely be back next time I am in town, I guess it’s worth paying an extra $ 2 to $ 3 for a meal that uses fresh quality ingredients.

Great tacos! Their soft tacos are traditionally made with 2 corn tortillas topped with your choice of meat and cilantro and onion. They are fresh and delicious. The enchilada sauce is aweful. It tastes like sweet pizza sauce and the chicken quesadilla is pretty plain but not super greasy so it’s just ok. The pick de gallo is great and made with fresh ingredients. Love the tacos!

I bought 1 steak quesadilla last week and was AWESOME. That was my first purchase at this place. Two days later i went get another one and unfortunately the steak had fat and nerves. This is something that I really hate, so i was a little disappointed :( About the service, they look nice and quickly.

The service was quick. The menu was a little overwhelming. I ordered my food at the counter & it arrived at my table within 10 minutes or less. Shrimp taco was good & tasty, but ever so slightly over-cooked. The chili taco was good & the chicken stew was moist & delicious. Overall it was an enjoyable experience & I would go back.

We eat here about once a week. Everything is consistently fresh and delicious. The blackened chicken salad with ranch lime dressing is insane! Black bean burrito-=yum. Southwest burrito, double yum. Nachos, delicious. Guacamole is the best around.

I’ve been to many Mexican restaurants within a ten mile radius of where I live and Tres Amigos is the closest. However, I find myself avoiding it because everything I seem to get there is just ok. The first time I went I was starving and I was still disappointed. I’d rather drive down Broadway for a few extra seconds to get something at Goldmine or Green Cactus

I was a little skeptical when a new tex-mex place opened up after Goldmine moved, but I like this one even better. BBQ Quesadillas are a favorite.

Moved into Greenlawn 3.5 years ago. Choices for Mexican were Goldmine and driving to Jericho Turnpike to Green Cactus. Having come from Huntington I have always been a fan of Green Cactus due to the freshness of its food and relatively quick service. When I got to Greenlawn I tried Goldmine and honestly the food and service were terrible. I wasn’t shocked to see it go out of business. So I continued going to Green Cactus on Jericho. That was until Tres Amigos opened up in the former Goldmine location. I decided to try it. The first time I had the chicken quesadillas and the blackened chicken burrito. Both were excellent. Big chunks of white meat chicken. The burrito had really fresh ingredients. You ask for salsa at the counter. Really good. The prices are comparable to Green Cactus. Since my first trip I have had the supreme nachos, jalapeño poppers, and an entrée(forgot the name) with blackened chicken, black beans and rice in addition to going back to that burrito a few times. Really really good. Plus the girl at the counter is extremely friendly. If you remember the woman at Goldmine it is night and day when it comes to service. They have updated the décor inside big time from Goldmine and many times at dinner most tables are full. The menu is more expansive than Green Cactus which recently opened a Greenlawn location.(I haven’t tried it yet.) If in Greenlawn and in the mood for Mexican, go here.

Big letdown after Goldmine, which used to be here. The woman behind the counter was curt and unfriendly. The fish taco was overpriced, mushy, and it obviously was not freshly fried fish. Frozen no doubt. The sauce had the exact same creepy smell as the sauce used at Green Cactus. Can’t anyone do fish tacos right around here? And no free chips even. Take your business elsewhere.

Came here one day after gym for a quick dinner. I never noticed this little place before even though I live right around the corner. I was very hungry and I anxiously waited for Blackened Chicken Salad and in about 15 minutes, the warm brown bag landed in my hands. It did feel like a long time but I understand, freshly made food takes time. When I went home opened, I was immediately satisfied with the scent of the delicious chicken. It was extremely flavorful and peppery, just how I liked. I didn’t even add any dressing to my salad because the chicken itself was enough. I’m glad I have this place here, convenient, close to home, price is decent and the food is definitely delicious.

AMAZING! Tonight I took out from here for the first time & everything was off the hook delicious! The guacamole was as fresh as could be & the salsa selection was great. I had the steak quesadilla, i know its hard to mess a quesadilla up but this one was perfect. Not overly seasoned, not greasy & the food wasn’t soggy by the time it got home! Their packaging is smart, the quesadilla’s came in mini pizza boxes, which helped prevent sogginess. All in all this is my families new go to Mexican grill!

Finally, some decent Tex-Mex in Greenlawn! To be fair, I’ve only been there once so my experience is limited. Fresh, well cooked ingredients at fair prices. Definitely better than the Gold Mine down the road. Everything on the menu seems to be a dollar or two more than Gold Mine, but you get what you pay for. I’ll be heading back!
