The initial shopping experience was great, but what followed after we paid for the chair was enough to deter us from ever spending money with La-Z-Boy again. Wrote a check for $ 1850 for the chair, from an account that had plenty of funds. Provided Drivers License as well. This was the SECOND La-Z-Boy chair we’ve bought. Later that day, we received several calls from the store claiming the check was denied. They gave me an 800-number to call and a denial number. Called that 800-number who identified themselves as «United Tranzactions Association»(UTA), a check guaranteeing service that La-Z-Boy uses to gurantee checks. I had no idea what this meant and I was leery. Meanwhile, I checked our bank account balance and there were plenty of funds available, so I could not understand what all the fuss was about. The UTA company asked for personal info including name, address, phone number, check number, amount, and refused to «verify» the check until also provided a family member’s address & phone number as well! Um What? Was told if we didn’t provide all this info, we could not buy the chair. This was very frustrating as we had ample funds! Reluctantly gave the additional personal info as well, and then was put on hold while they«verified» the purchase. «Verifying» meant they ran a credit check without telling us that in advance!!! FAIRCREDITACTVIOLATION. I have sterling credit and have never bounced a single check. I have enough cash in the bank to buy 30 La-Z-Boy chairs if I wanted to! When I called the store manager to complain about the experience, he didn’t seem concerned or apologetic and told me there was no Regional Manager to escalate this to and no corporate office to escalate to. I argued with him and then he told me to look up the corporate address on the internet. This is not what I expect after spending almost $ 2 grand on a chair. I hope that others learn from this experience and just go to Sam’s Club to buy a chair at half the cost and better service.

My mother purchased a chair and three months later the wing was coming off. I was told I needed to pay $ 80 for them to pick it up to bring to Dallas for repair work. They couldn’t tell me how long it would take for repairs. My mother is 82 and she bought that chair because it was easy enough for her to get up and down from, therefor she couldn’t be without it for more than a day or two. I left messages for the DFW repair company to call me and still haven’t heard from them. I called the store and no one answered the store phone until the third try. The manager said he was going to email repair center to call me, still no contact from Lazy Boy. I first reached out to them 11⁄5.

We were not happy when we learned the people who deliver the furniture to your home are not employees of Lazy Boy. They are contract. When we got the delivery call it was barely audible from the caller we tried to call back and make since of it and it went south from there. If you cannot leave a clear message with a return number that works you are NOT coming into our home. The next morning I called but management wasn’t in. Spoke to an office associate who was very helpful. Had the sales rep call me and I cancelled the order. We were refunded our money. I found out calling around that all the stores have the same set up. We didnt want to chance having a complete stranger into our home to deliver furniture that they dont know and we certainly didnt know and were not OK with that policy. They should have told us that this was contracted delivery. Not a good business practice to do that and not tell customers. If they come into your house damage something or your furniture too bad so sad. You have no one to go to for where the buck stops on their delivery department. Their saving grace was the credited our card immediatly.
