The owner was super helpful when deciding what to try– as it was our first time visiting Hughie’s! She had great recommendations for flavor combinations and was very nice all around. Unfortunately, if you aren’t use to eating such heavy food (fry bread), it may be a bit much for your stomach to handle– but if you’re adventurous, come with a big appetite and knock yourself out! Great grub, small town (just not for the light eaters!)

Really good. We found this spot via a Unilocal search. It was a perfect midday fuel up during hiking. Kids liked the kids meal taco with a cinnamon sugar treat included
Husband and I loved the taco shells, pork taco and special sauce. Pork was so flavorful.
Restaurant is s counter service, casual place. I thought staff was very friendly and service fast.
Only downside is they serve Pepsi, not coke.

Wow these are huge and delicious! Order 1 taco and then order another if your still hungry.
The tacos are made fresh when you order, and come out crisp, yet hold together very well for eating. Unlike a traditional hard shelled taco that break and make a mess on the first bite, these stated together until the end.
Like others recommended, the chipotle sour cream is a must. The nacho cheese can be skipped.
Great service! All staff is super friendly and attentive. A huge win for us, we’ll be back for sure:-)

Unilocalers got this right! I can’t think of anything bad to say about this amazing place except I wish I had it in my hometown! Staff was unbelievably amazing! Good local beer, thank you for having the bent paddle canoe ipa! Communal tables — kick @/” décor. We made a point to linger around town to get another dose of these tacos before coming home to IL. YUM

Love this place! We’ve been here many times on our many trips to Grand Marais and Hughie’s never disappoints. The tacos are made with frybread instead of typical shells and that makes them special and unique. The staff /​owner are super friendly. You can get sauerkraut on your taco which is surprisingly delicious. I recommend the beef /​kraut taco with chipotle sour cream and sweet corn.

Honestly, Hughies has possibly one of the best tacos I have ever had in the U.S. From the homemade shell to the perfectly spiced pulled pork, these tacos rock. If you’re visiting Grand Marais, this is a necessary stop and a true hidden gem of the north country.

Friendly family run place. Unpretentious. The place is spotlessly clean. I wanted a quick snack and a beer as I waited for my nephew to show up in town. The lad behind the counter talked me into trying their fish taco. Yum. Tacos are served in fry bread and you get a lot for your money.

All of the good things people are saying are true! We thoroughly enjoyed the tacos with the puffy shells — big and mouthwateringly delicious. We had pork… and because people rave about it, we had to try the chipotle sour cream which is worthy of the raves. We ordered combos so had side orders of fairly standard refried beans and rice, but sizeable portions. Taco chips, salsa, and guacamole was also pretty typical too but THOSE TACOS! We each added a bottle of Pacifico with a lime and our tab was $ 30 for two of us. Extremely friendly people. Definitely going back!

Not bad, but as someone else pointed out, not. Mexican. I don’t love super spicy food, but this was pretty bland. The «queso» was more like «Velveto». The locals like it… a lot, so I guess they know their target audience. But not my favorite GM meal.

My hubby and I LOVE this place!!! If you’re looking for authentic tacos, you are definitely not going to find it here. That being said, these tacos are so amazingly good that we remembered these tacos from the first time we went to Grand Marais 2 years ago. We finally had a chance to head back up to Grand Marais this summer and of course stopped by Hughie’s Taco’s twice over our stay! The shells are homemade tortillas (I think it’s tortillas) that are deep fried. Yum! Super high in calories but so worth it! Definitely get the tacos with the chipotle sour cream, sweet corn, and onions. my favorite taco is their fish taco with everything in it! The tacos are huge so usually 1 taco will fill you right up.

Hughie’s Taco touts their puffy taco shells. We order a range of tacos and while I personally liked the puffy tacos, the kids were unsure about them. I wold say one of the more memorable experiences from the place is ordering the mexican fanta in a glass bottle. They had a wide range of bottled drinks. I was quite impressed.

Stopped here after being directed by a local. I had the beef and sour kraut taco… yes, I said sour kraut. Unbelievably tasty. While the rest of my family wasn’t as adventurous as me we unanimously agreed this is our new go to spot in G.Marais.
