One of my first jobs was working here. Little red hen is how thin crust slices of pizza should be. Crunchy around the edges and foldable in the middle. This local gem has an amazing menu and in all around good guy as the owner, though he’ll never let you know it.

It’s a flaw in the Unilocal review, that you cannot leave a half star or less. This restaurant does not need anyone’s business or care about you as a customer, based on how they treat you. If they needed your business they would treat you with some level of decorum or respect, but obviously they do not. I ordered two pizzas and was told to pick them up at 645. I showed up at 650pm and waited behind a 10 year old girl who was in line in front of me. The poor girl asked for a slice of pizza and I watched in horror as they belittled her about how busy they were and she needed to order what they felt she should order. My turn was next and when I said that I was there to pick up my pizza, a chorus of laughter erupted and I was shamed by the owners by my audacity of showing up when told and should have expected that they would be busy. So I left in embarrassment and went home and ordered dominos. Delivered 15 minutes later with a smile and honestly, better than what red hen would have provided.

I’ve been there twice. Slow motion. If you only have a ½ hr for lunch don’t do this place. I think the cook is unable to multitask orders 1 at a time. Foods nothing to write home about and sure isn’t worth the wait. Nice people up front, but wasting people’s time while you smile in their face is unacceptable. Sorry.

Little Red Hen’s fried chicken and fries are a must! We love dropping by here on Saturday afternoons!

This is a very nice shop in downtown Glenco, they serve all kinds of fast food stuff here but it’s all made in house. If you order fried chicken you would have to wait 15mins for your meal. Pizza by the slice smelt soooo good, I had a gyro without the pita and it was yummy.

Not really impressed at all. Maybe because I didn’t get the fried chicken which they’re known for but I expected the rest of their food to be great as well. I ordered for delivery, the teriyaki chicken sandwich, onion rings and a chocolate vanilla swirl shake. First, my total of $ 20 was ridiculous for what I received. So with tip, this meal cost me $ 24. I received 4 onion rings, yes 4 small onion rings. Secondly, my chicken sandwich was flattened at the bottom of the bag and was the tiniest piece of chicken I’ve ever seen. They also gave me a plain chicken sandwich and not the teriyaki which isn’t a huge deal, just more annoying than anything. Not sure I’ll give them another try.

Love this place! Get the french fries, the onion rings, the chicken and the pizza! They also have a good greek salad. Delish!

I have only ever had pizza delivery here. It’s always fast and fresh. I hope to try other things soon because they have a pretty good selection other than pizza. You can order on grub hub which makes it easy for me.

My husband loves the ribs. Grandma loves the fried chicken. The kids love the gyros. I love the cheese pizza that will rival some of my favorites from NJ. I only wish they didn’t cut in squares, but I think that is a midwestern thing and they will cut in pie shape if you ask!

The fried chicken was not memorable and mediocre at best. The fries are frozen from the bag. Worst of all. The staff was somewhat rude and spent the entire time complaining in an amazingly annoying voice. One of the few options in Glencoe but would not survive in the City.

When ever I visit my patents I always order Red Hen. I’m not just saying this because I grew up eating them… But Red Hen’s ribs may be the best ribs in the state! They’re a little over priced for ribs, but well worth the inflated cost if you like BBQ ribs. I could write a three page review, but let’s just summarize with what you have to order: Pizza(regular, stay away from deep dish here), Fried Chicken, Ribs, Giros… and Coleslaw(it’s also the best in the state). Most of the negative reviews I’ve read mention Jimmy. Yes, he can come off a bit rough, but that’s part of Red Hens charm. It’s a small restaurant that was started in the 80’s in a small town. The whole town is made up of obnoxious entitled chronic complainers. If I had to deal with that for 30 years I’d be a hell of a lot less friendly than Jimmy. Actually, when you think about it, the fact that Jimmy hasn’t strangled a 10 year old for using an Amex Black card to buy a small ice cream cone is amazing!

First time having the fried chicken, and it was great. All food made from scratch. The pizza was just OK, so if you come to this place, definitely get the chicken. Service was fast, and 4 stars only because it took too long for the order.

Little Red Hen is awesome. The food is fantastic and so is the staff. Whenever we have had our food delivered, it’s always been prompt. Our five-year-old son LOVES the pizza(and so do we), crinkle-cut french fries. and the soft-serve ice cream. The baked goods; especially the Blondie Bars, are truly out-of-this world!

I like little red hen for its convenience, prices, and generally friendly staff. My 5 year old daughter needed to use the bathroom and I was also with my 2 year old son. Without hesitation, the woman behind the counter said«come with me» and she guided my daughter to the bathroom. She was friendly, motherly and overly sweet to her. The food is good too. The pizza(cut in squares) is delicious and the heros are seasoned very well. This is a place you can go to for a casual dinner or lunch and leave satisfied with counter service and outside seating.

Really friendly service. We stopped by after work to try it out and man their chicken was delicious. Expect to wait a little because they cook their stuff from scratch not pre made which is a plus to me. Clean tables and perfect combo of crispiness and tenderness. Will come back

ok. back to my fried/breaded chicken sandwich list… this place has the one of the best non spicy chicken sandwiches around. In fact if it wasn’t for the price(more like a sit down pub price than a take out joint) this one would be tops on my list. who best it out? KFC’s original recipe sandwich. Second, this one excepting price. Third, Steak and Shake(really), fourth, Wendy;s spicy chicken, fifth, culvers, sixth, mcdonald’s southern fried chix. Back to red hen, why not a perfect rating since they have such a great sammy? service and price. I don’t like someone obviously overly friendly to a regular, yet not so much with a normal patron. Be over friendly to the regular, just don’t forget how it feels when the regular isn’t you.

Silly me asked the man behind the counter if they had a kids menu. He replied(somewhat rudely) «um. the entire menu is a kids menu.» Pizza, grilled cheese, hot dogs, cookies, ice cream, etc. Yep– that screams kids to me. I had no trouble ordering for my little one off the«kids menu,» but it was more difficult to find something healthyish for myself. I ended up w/a greek salad, which was fine. Meanwhile my 2 year old ate every last bite of her grilled cheese and my husband seemed to enjoy his 2 hot dogs. It’s super tiny inside, but during the summer they have a few tables outside basically doubling their occupancy. It can get a little cramped waiting for your order inside, but fortunately the place smells like cookies which makes it more bearable. We’ve only eaten here once, but have gone back a few times for their soft serve ice cream. While I appreciate that Deweys(located next door) has homer’s ice cream, I find the soft serve to be less of a mess for my little one to eat. And one of these I’m looking forward to trying their fried chicken I’ve heard/read so much about!

This place has been the same for 20 years(well minus the interior… RIP pictures of pasta noodles… I learned the difference between rigatoni and llinguine from you) Fried Chicken is great, the pizza is delicious, steak fries? yes please! The service is fine… they’re attentive and friendly… maybe a little rough around the edges but that’s Jimmy’s thing and he’s actually a sweet guy. Now they have desserts as well so when you’re standing around waiting for your food it’s hard to pass up a delish brownie, cupcake or cookie! Whenever I’m up on the North Shore, Little Red Hen is a MUST because I can’t get food and memories like those just anywhere.
