It’s been two weeks, and if you knew me, you’d know that my memory fades from time to time, and that’s true of this place and this occasion, nonetheless I’d encourage you to stop by next time you’re headed to the Genoa Bar. Head there first, as your mind might be elsewhere after a visit to the bar, which I also highly recommend. Why stop in the outpost? The main reason has to be the fact that it’s a locally owned business and they’re raising and selling their own beef. The beef is being raised within a few miles of the establishment and supplies are very limited. Also, it’s fairly priced and there are a variety of cuts available, but this is not a butcher shop, it’s a retail outlet that has the frozen beef, but it also focuses on a number of different items. Are you interested in some Nevada souvenirs? They’ve got them. Do you want to pick up a Northern Nevada magazine geared towards the healthy organic crowd? They’ve got that as well. Genoa Nevada is a very interesting town. They’ve got at least one good restaurant, the oldest bar in the state of Nevada, and a family owned outpost for your organic, range free, locally grown beef. That’s a good town.

Trimmer Outpost is located in a on the southern edge of downtown Genoa in a handsome building that features a low double-pitched roof, wide front porch, and red brick chimney. The building is nicely set off Main Street, with easy handicapped access and parking. Inside the building, you will find artwork, gifts and sundries made by Nevada artisans. In the large kitchen, you’ll find canned jams and jellies made from Nevada fruit. And in the freezer, you’ll find 40-pound boxes of beef from grass-fed cows raised on Genoa’s historic Ranch No. 1. In fact, this Outpost is a natural extension of this ranch its greater community. Canning and cooking classes and pony rides are periodically offered. Indoor and outdoor event space is also available. Trimmer Outpost is definitely worth a stop and a look when you’re in Genoa.
