Generous portion. I ordered Korean BBQ com tam. Everything on it was fine, however the BBQ slice was very, very thin.

Excellent broken rice plates. Best baked or steamed egg I have ever had. The meat dishes are marinated and grilled to perfection. Keep up the Killer Grinds Dolan Brothers. ~Richy Rich AMERICA

Great Place for Vietnamese pork Chop that specialize in rice plates. Went to lunch with a friend, and it was our first time trying their food. They have plenty of parking. The venue is a bit out dated, however our main focus was the food. The price is affordable, $ 7.99 for the following: Rice, Egg cake, Dried Pork, Charbroiled Pork, sausage and broken rice. Oh, pork soup was great. It wasn’t over powered with MSG. They had other combos selections. Two pages long. My friend ordered the same combo, however had Korean bbq ribs instead of the Chinese sausage. Other combos had shrimp and other selections. Crispy Egg roll is good. Came with plenty of lettuce and mint leaves. Thats a plus! They don’t have spring rolls here, and it’s not a big deal. This place is definitely worth a try. Huge portions and great food. I have left overs for dinner or lunch. SERVICE** SO, I really want to acknowledge them for their friendly service. They actually smile at people. Whatever we needed they were able to provide. I had food left over and without asking, gave me extra sauce for my togo box. I like the proactive service here. Glad we had a great experience. Just smile at them and they will take care of you. Thats what happened to us! Enjoy! =)

Oh man! I was craving Vietnamese broken rice and stumble upon this. Definitely walked out too full. I got #7 and it didn’t disappoint. Egg cake was my favorite. Portions are huge.

After reading good reviews on Unilocal I had really high expectations before coming. Maybe that why it was a little disappointing. I would give a 3.5 for the place. The meat quality was good, but just something is off. Maybe it’s too authentic? Broken rice is good but almost all Vietnamese restaurants have that?

Just when you thought it was over. The good people of Thuan Kieu keep finding ways to grace our palates with their brilliant assortment of Vietnamese dishes. I have always been a slave to their broken rice, but now I have a new go to dish. Their pork grilled meatballs and eggroll on a bed of veggies and vermicelli is absolutely perfect! One would think this would be a no brainer for them because they do have the best fish sauce in town. The portions are more than generous and a ice coffee is an absolute must! Just like the Beatles, Thuan kieu continues to roll out hits after hits.

Best com tam restaurant, you can tell by their name right away. I go to all their com tam around the areas as well. This place I haven’t tried til today. I stop by my friend’s, she lives right nearby so I gave it a try. I was happy to see familiar faces from their other Com Tam Thuan Kieu locations. Funny thing about the comment below saying new owner? I’m pretty sure the people here before were workers not owner. I recognize the original owners face anywhere. I got the 5 course meal and shared it with my friend since their portions are always big. Whenever i crave Asian food, I always go to this restaurant. Always leave me happy every time. :)

Whenever I go down to SoCal, I have to have Thuan Kieu Com Tam! It’s the best place for broken rice place and it’s pretty darn cheap compared to NorCal restaurants. MAKESURETOGOTOTHISLOCATIONONLY. there are other locations with the same name, probs same owner but this location, the food has never disappointed me. The parking lot is small and kind of sketch. The restaurant itself is pretty small too, probs hold 30 people max. The service is just as best as Vietnamese service goes. I usually order that one large combo B I believe and share it with my sister and my mom. It’s jam packed with so much variety of meat! If you order it to go, I think the portions are even bigger for less than $ 15 too! The rice plate comes out in a super huge plate and it comes with a bowl of broth. The fish sauce is next to you and mix in that chilli garlic sauce and the pickled mini leeks. You won’t regret it.

Portions are HUGE! No one in my family could finish our com tam. Definitely a bang for your buck considering the inexpensive prices. I enjoyed the chao tom and also the version wrapped in tofu. I also liked the soup that come with the com tam since the overwhelming amount of rice can make your mouth feel dry.

My go to place for com tam! Service is so-so, because there’s a cultural barrier. There also may be a slight language barrier if you aren’t Vietnamese, but that’s fine; just order by the number. There’s usually a wait when I come for lunch, but food comes out quickly. They took our order outside and by the time they had seated us, we had only sat there for a couple minutes before they brought out our food. I got the #7, which comes with a little bit of everything: pork chop, Chinese sausage, shrimp, shredded pork and all that other good stuff. The best part is that the portions are gigantic here! $ 11 for the plate and it was more than enough food for two. It also comes with a bowl of soup! I like that they gave us two soups even though we were splitting one dish. If I was eating it by myself, it’d probably last me 2.5 meals! This place is awesome if you want some Vietnamese comfort food and want to get your money’s worth!

If i could rate this place a million stars i would… okay not really but this place is a great place for com(rice platters). The portions here are super huge and dirt cheap! Great food and cheap eats are the way to go in Cali! My family wanted to get rice platters for lunch so I turned to Unilocal!Thank you Unilocalers for not letting me down! I had tried a couple different rice platters and they were just phenomenal! Probably the best I’ve ever had since I visited vancouver! When i come back to cali, this will be my to go to spot! Only downfall is that the hallway to go to the restroom is very congested with storage things. it can be harder to get to the restroom if you had a stroller, wheelchair, etc… not easy to get to.

The restaurant is located in a run-down plaza on Brookhurst. My coworker and I came in here for lunch and asked if they take credit card– they said no, but asked how many orders. I said we were both going to order one plate each and they said they’ll accept one credit card transaction for the meal. I guess they do have a credit card machine, but they just don’t want to use it… I just felt really rushed once seated and given the menu. The guy stood next to us waiting for us to order but I told him I needed a couple minutes. The meals were good. I got #22 and it came with a soup as well! The meals are pretty big and I was really full off of one. I probably could have shared it. Overall, the food is excellent, but I would probably never go to this location again. The location on the corner of Brookhurst and Westminster in the Target plaza is better.

I came here with a friend because we were craving some com tam for breakfast. Good thing we had cash on hand because that is all they take. I can’t say how the environment is at night, but in the morning it was nice and quaint. Service was quick and the food came out faster than we thought. We did not have to wait long at all and were in and out in under half an hour. I ordered the broken rice with charbroiled pork and bean curd skin with shrimp and it came with a side of soup. Overall, the food was decent and they give you a good amount. The marinated pork had a nice charbroiled crisp to it. The shrimp was covered in a crispy fried tofu skin. The soup balanced the meal out nicely and helps cleanse your palate while you’re eating. However, I wasn’t particularly wowed by the food and there is another joint that I still think best this place. Wouldn’t go again but definitely a place you should try at least once.

Probably the best com tam I’ve had so far in the OC. The pork-chop was very well seasoned and ample portion. The picked veggies where also some of the best. What blew me away was their complementary soup. Most restaurants offer a dull broth with little resemblance to the soup my mom makes at home. But here it’s full of flavor and also consist of strewed meat! The location is in a beaten down gritty strip mall that does remind me of the nostalgia of being in Vietnam. And my entire meal was only $ 7.00!!! Check it out!

FASTESTTAKEOUTEVER! This is like a mom & pop shop status restaraunt… tables set close to each other in a small place. I have dined in here before w/a friend but by his time the hubby & I just wanted to grab a quick thing Togo & we walks in to grab a #7 combo w/chicken. LITERALLY we ordered… we paid… we were about to walk outside to just wait for our food to be prepped… & the worker said our food was ready before we could even take a step passed the door ahahahaa Just AWESOME… probably faster than a fast food drive through!

Com tam, or broken rice, is a popular Vietnamese dish made with minced rice grains. There are a number of good spots for com tam in Garden Grove and Westminster. One of the very first com tam restaurants in Orange County, this one still remains the consensus favorite judging by the largely positive reviews and longer waits to be seated. For those unfamiliar with com tam, it is a delicious combination rice plate which originated in southern Vietnam. The dish is served with grilled meat(usually either pork ribs or shredded pork), pickled carrots, sliced cucumbers, along with a prawn paste cake or pork meatloaf and either steamed or fried egg. Most restaurants like this one will serve com tam with a small bowl of soup broth(canh) with garlic chives. I am also particularly fond of this restaurant because of the food quality, variety of choices, very reasonable prices and good service. All dishes are made to order. The grilled meats are flavorful and seasoned just right: not too salty, sweetened or oily. The vegetables are fresh and crisp. The broken rice and noodles, along with the vegetables, are plated immediately after the meats are grilled or charbroiled so they never sit around to get cold. There are a myriad of choices at this restaurant, including an incredible 70 variations of com tam, served with either grilled pork, grilled shrimp, charbroiled chicken, Korean bbq beef, pork chop or a combination of them. There are even grilled tofu options for vegetarians. In addition to com tam, there are 30 bun kho(vermicelli served with grilled meat and vegetables) and 30 banh hoi tiny rice stick(rice vermicelli woven into intricate bundles, also served with grilled meat and vegetables). My personal favorite is probably the Com Tam Ga Nuong Suon Bo Dai Han(Broken Rice Charbroiled Chicken & Korean Pork Chop). The thinly sliced Korean pork chop is well marinated and delicious. The charbroiled chicken is juicy and perfectly cooked. A tasty, hearty combination rice plate for only $ 7.99. All rice and noodle dishes range between $ 6.50 — $ 11.99. Most are priced at $ 7.99. All dishes are hearty, served with generous portions of meat, and prepared with quality ingredients. While this restaurant is CASHONLY, dishes are priced very reasonably. Patrons could expect to pay as much as $ 2 more for comparable dishes at competing restaurants that accept credit cards. Service is quick and attentive. Com Tam Thuan Kieu should belong on everyone’s short list of essential Vietnamese restaurants in Orange County and certainly my recommended spot for the broken rice dish.

There’s another Com Tam Thuan Kieu place thats near the more Asian area which has me super frighten so I come here more often. I think its ok. I like the food but its quite oily and greasy. Everytime I finish eating com tam here I’m all tired and my heart starts aching but its pretty good though. I get it to-go more often but on certain occassions I’ll dine in here. The service is really friendly and they are super quick to my surprise. The portions are very huge. Usually if I dine in I have left overs for days. If I buy it to-go already I’ll have leftovers for weeks. The portions are ridiculously plentiful. They give you such variety of meat if you get that 7 combo piece. I love every one of the items but again they are very greasy which is a bummer. Usually when I go to com tam places I’m very picky about the rice. Its either too hard or too dry but the rice here is pretty well balanced. They also give you a ton of rice to go along with your meal. Overall the place is really generous when it comes to the portions they give. They really give you your bang for buck here. The prices are beyond reasonable and the quality is really good minus the extra oily items but usually Vietnamese food is all about the grease and oil lol. Its not my favorite com tam places but its definitely not the worst. To be honest I come here more often than my favorite place but thats just a convenience factor.

I like this location way better than the one on Bolsa. I think they have different owners because the menu and the way you order are quite different. If you’re coming here with another person, I say get the 7 item combo. I prefer the combo B over A because I don’t like the hard sausage that comes with it. It’s super affordable at just $ 10 and you get so much that you’ll have a hard time finishing it even with another person!
