In the year since my initial review of Gamer’s HQ, the store has settled into their space and improved their selection. They have begun to sell a few more popular board games as well(Munchkin, etc). They also have also begun selling Warhammer and MTG. If you’re into MTG, they do host Friday Night Magic events. They also recently set up a table for Warhammer players. I’d still like to see them sell designer board games, and more specifically deal with used board games. Out of all the video game shops in town, the folks that work here are the most pleasant to deal with. Like my initial review stated, they aren’t pushy, and will go out of their way to help you out if you ask for help. They’ll often pull up YouTube videos of NES games for me, so I can see what the game looks like before I make a purchase. On top of being helpful, they’re just plain friendly, and not the kind of friendly where they’re just being nice to try and make a sell. I’ve done more trading with Gamer’s HQ over the past year, and continue to feel like the trade value they provide is the best in town. They’ve always been upfront with how much they’ll mark up your trades for. I believe they give you 50% of what they’ll sell your stuff for. While their game selection has improved, I do feel like they could improve it a little more. The prices for their games are fair, but probably need to be updated more frequently to reflect the current market value. Their strength is still in selling product for older systems. They’ve also begun to do system repairs and battery replacements on older games. I appreciate that they’ll be upfront with you if the repair cost would be close to what it would cost you to buy a new system. In short, you’ll be treated fair here(which is rare in this industry), and while you might not find what your’e looking for every time, you’ll know you weren’t screwed when you do find something you were hunting for.

As an initial disclaimer, I have to admit that I don’t buy a lot of video games. I have a partner who does, though, and I end up going to a lot of video game stores with him. Most of the time I kind of dread going to video game stores because I get the«*hyuk* it’s a girl» reaction a lot of the time from staff, but at Gamers HQ, I’ve never gotten treated a bit differently from anyone else that walks through the door. Because of this, I actually have made a few purchases there and sold some DVDs to them. If you’re lucky, Dave or Buddy(or better yet, Dave and Buddy) will be there. They’re really nice and generally are up to some rascally pursuit. For example, I once walked in while Buddy was wrapping Dave in a roll of brown paper. Dave was also wearing a giant cardboard box on his head. After about ten minutes of incoherent laughter, I gathered that they were making Dave into a robot. Then Buddy and Dave chased each other around while fake sword fighting with mailing tubes. Like I said, they’re funny. Getting a dose of the Buddy & Dave Show is a big part of the reason my partner and I go there. So in terms of merchandise, they’ve got new and used games, and their prices seem about as fair as you can get in Gainesville. Their trade-in policy seems pretty good, too. When I traded in my DVDs, I got a decent amount of store credit. As I write this, I realize that I mostly enjoy the experience of Gamers HQ, not what it actually sells(which is no fault of theirs). If you’re a girl/woman/female/whatev that likes games or has a partner that likes games, I recommend going here. You won’t get ignored, ogled, or laughed at(all of which have happened to me at other video game stores). More likely, you’ll be entertained and charmed by the staff. If you take the time to get to know the people who work there, you’ll find them to be genuinely nice people who are interested in helping you get some entertainment media.
