Everything is soooo fresh and delicious. My fav is definitely the house Crab, fresh out the water today with green curry sauce. I ordered half, but wish I’d ordered a whole one :) The Beets Salad is also very tasty. And we loved the deserts! Sticky Toffee Budding and Blueberry Cheesecake are so good! The Brodette is fine, but not as good as the crab.

Great experience dining here. Staff was very attentive and professional. I started with raw oysters in shell. They were fresh tasting, great texture, and good presentation. I also had the Dungeness crab with a drawn garlic butter. I made a wonderful mess and enjoyed every minute of it. To complete the meal I had a slice of their cheesecake with strawberries. Very good. This restaurant was very clean, with a nautical theme. Conveniently located near the ferry. If I make it back to visit this area, I will make this a priority to eat here again. Thanks!

We stopped in here for a beer between bowling and dinner. We intended to have more than 1 but we’re so disappointed by the bartender. I am rarely a complainer and prefer to leave positive Unilocal reviews than negative but my bf and I were pretty unhappy about the experience. We only saw him when he dropped our beers off… we tried asking about their tequila options, he seemed annoyed and said«all our tequila is on the top shelf.» Kept walking, and never came back. Really we felt like an inconvenience. So we had our 1 beer each and left. Others working seemed nice. Could have been a fluke experience, unfortunate.

I tried the bangers & mash potatoes– it was good! My friends ordered the shepherd’s pie & meat pie– both are delicious as well. Service was slow and had to wait 25 mins to get seated. Great experience but would’ve been better if everything could be faster

On a recent weekender in Friday Harbor, my fiancé and I ended up at the bar at Cask and Schooner four times. Twice for brunch, twice for dinner. Apart from that many restaurants on the island are closed this time of the year, we actually really enjoyed it. Of the many items we tried, my favorites were the shepherd’s pie and the special omelet they had on one of the days(it had steak, feta, and veggies). The shepherd’s pie was warm, hearty, and tasted like someone’s mom made it. I thought the mashed potato layer could’ve been bigger, but all in all, it was delicious. The special omelet was thick and heavy on all the wonderful ingredients! All the flavors came together really well, and I especially liked that it was not overbearingly cheesy. It also came with a salad of greens and berries drizzled with vinaigrette. Mmmm. Delightful. I also had the cheese board twice. Both times, they had a triple-crème Brie, a goat cheese, and a bleu cheese, which I would never want to end up on my plate. I requested them to double up on the Brie instead of giving me any bleu cheese, and they accommodated my request without hesitation. The fig spread they had was divine with the cheeses. I heard a lot of buzz about the chicken sandwich, so I tried it one time, but it didn’t live up to the hype for me. I thought it was bland and unexciting. Service was friendly, and ambiance was cheery. A lot of tourists and locals alike. We made new friends, which is always a highlight for any trip. Loved the rustic marine embellishments, too!

Saw all the great reviews here thought I would give this place a try. I had my eyes on the Shepard’s pie and Curry lamb. They are on their Wednesday happy hour menu. The waitress said we are out of Shepard’s pie, not even the Entrée. Ok, I will order the Curry lamb and Brodetto. Waited 10 – 15 minutes, Brodetto came out, warm. Asked the waitress what happen to the Curry lamb? She said we are out of lamb dishes. Wow… really? We could have left if we knew that. She asked if we want anything else, so we ordered the baked oysters and she will bring us more bread for the Brodetto soup. Five minutes later, no bread. I had to ask her and she got me three slices of cold bread. I thought it took her so long because she had to wait for it to bake. By the time the bread is out, our soup was gone already. Baked oysters came out, and I didn’t see any steam. Okay, try them anyway. Warm outside and cold inside. How could one screwed up fresh oysters? The waitress didn’t charge me for the oysters, but ruined our dinner. The entire time I was there to browse for anothe place to eat a decent dinner. Wasted my last night on the island. By the way, I got to see the table next to us eating their fish and chips. It didn’t look like a $ 15 f&c to me. I had some better ones on the island. Everyone has f&c here. I give you one star for the model boat in the restaurant.

Tasty food. Good service. We each ordered meat pies– one with salad, the other with mashed potatoes. Everything was tasty. However, one of the pies was slightly cold. Overall, a good experience. We would come back here again.

Super hungry after an awesome 4 hour whale watching tours, I took out my phone, opened Unilocal to search for a restuarant. The first result that came up was this restuarant with over 300 reviews and avg 4 stars rating. I thought I found a perfect place to eat that would add up nice with the amazing time that I was having since morning at san juan islands. Later I realised, I did not make a very good decision and would never forgive myself. :p Dissapointed with the service. It was a non busy day, we ordered beer, appetizers, main course and desserts. I ordered their chicken sandwich and asked if it comes with fries. The answer I got from our waitress was: No, it comes with a side salad, but they can substitute the salad with fries. Good to hear that as I was really craving for some fries w my sandwich. The food arrived. I see my sandwich came with the salad. When asked, they said they forgot, but will send the fries asap. I started eating slow, really small bites, waiting on the fries. 15 minutes passed, finished eating my food, had the last sip of my beer, and… NEVERGOTMYFRIES. No one came back to check w us either. Food: Not sure if the dessert was really good, or was relatively better than their appetizers and main course that I ordered LOL. I liked their dessert. Appetizers were bland, and the sandwiches were not good either. Especially for the money I paid here, I expected something better or atleast decent. Giving 2 stars as I liked their desserts, and had an awesome time at san juan islands.

Very delicious and great ambiance. My friend and I sat in the bar area. They had great Thursday beer selections and prices(12 oz Milk Stout was only $ 5). I got the salmon sandwich which was extremely delicious. The sauce and avocado really highlighted the sandwich and the bread was top notch. My friend ordered the King salmon with veggies and mashed potatoes. Flavors blended perfectly. She was definitely impressed. When I visit again, this’ll be my regular spot! I’m lactose intolerant and the waitress was very patient and helpful in making sure I didn’t have any dairy in my meal. Great service!

I feel like 2 stars is generous, so go ahead and nominate me for a Selfless Act of the Year Award. Honestly not sure where all these rave reviews are coming from… either my group had dinner on an «off» night where they just couldn’t get the food right, or everyone writing the 4+ star reviews grew up eating maggot pies for dinner and just doesn’t know any better. I’d say it’s a 50⁄50 chance. — Everyone recommended the Clam Chowder. Tried it. Hated it. This chowder was slightly thicker than the consistency of water and extremely bland. 6 out of 9 people ordered this; 6 out of 6 people would not order again. — The Chicken Sandwich: Ok, I had high expectations for this sandwich. Unilocalers had me thinking this would be heaven in my mouth. Not quite. It was a decent sandwich, but nothing out of this world, and certainly nothing I’d remember after dinner. Again, these people grew up on maggot pies… Forgive them, for they know not what they do. Skip it. OH, and none of the sandwiches come with fries.(This is never a good idea.) So you basically pay $ 15+ for a sandwich and a minuscule side field green salad. Expect to pay $ 2 to get fries instead of a salad.) Overall, Cask and Schooner is extremely underwhelming for the price point.($ 28 for halibut fish and chips? Girl, bye.) Service? Average, though slow. Safe choices: Steak and Chips(FYI: The salsa verde is a pesto, basically) Fish and Chips

Came here this past weekend for dinner on Friday night. Of course I used Unilocal to make my decision on where I wanted to go, and the scallops and pasta pictures looked soooo good. We headed down, no parking so a long walk. I was told 30 – 45 minute wait. The hostess had very nice clothes, but they were horribly mismatched. Not normally a big deal but the hostess is the head of your restaurant and the first person you see, they should look nice to represent the business. We went across the street for some drinks and came back, seeing if they had called our name yet. The waiting area is extremely small and there were 4 parties waiting with an additional 4 outside. I was completely starving and irritable. Our total wait was actually an hour, and we were seated by the very front by the waiting area. Very annoying to have people touching you or watching you while they’re waiting. We ordered the poutine and broccolini for apps. The wait was a little ridiculous, and I was already upset about the initial wait and having to sit so close to the waiting area. The poutine was good, nothing out of this world. Could have had more cheese. The broccolini was tasty with almonds and peppers, but was slightly too salty. The homemade lemonade was good though! My boyfriend ordered a goat ravioli and I ordered the dungeness crab risotto. They did not have the scallops and pasta, I was so devastated! Goat ravioli tasted like pot roast, was pretty good. The pickled onions were awesome. The risotto had lots of crab and lots of corn. It was flavorful and fresh, but not worth $ 32. I know we’re by the water and you pay for that, but no bueno. Service was good, the waitress was nice and couldn’t help the ridiculous wait. But I wont be coming back here.

Right off the ferry, Cask and Schooner is a great choice for lunch or dinner. You can’t miss it on the corner. Sorry to see that my Unilocal friend Jake R. didn’t have a good experience, but I must say I think it was a fluke. We had two great meals here. We enjoyed sitting inside by the window watching the water and passersby. Oh, and the chicken sandwich? Quite possibly the best chicken sandwich in the history of chicken sandwiches. C & S has that dish DOWN and they better never ever remove it from their menu, because even if we don’t get back to Friday Harbor for 10 years I want to be able to walk in and say, «Hello good sir, give me that chicken sandwich if you please» and if they say it’s off the menu, I WILL throw a table. It’s that good. *Blackened chicken breast, complementary white cheese, hot and crunchy french bread, crispy bacon, delicately thin and sweet APPLE slices(more restaurants need to steal this idea) and some kind of sauce that’s created at the gates of Heaven.*

First and Foremost. Service was s… l…o… w My husband and I ordered a couple of items to start our meal. I ordered a cup of the Clam Chowder, $ 6 — It was okay. Seriously Meh. I am a lover of soup, and I was disappointed. Boo. Husband ordered the Cripsy Roasted Cauliflower appetizer, it has curry oil, and currants. $ 7 — I felt the same way about this appetizer as I did the soup. Meh. Blah. Hubby and I decided to order two entrees to share. We opted for the Steak Salad & the Fish & Chips. The Steak Salad is Mixed Greens, Avocado, Tomatoes, Bleu Cheese, Balsamic Reduction — $ 18. And once again. Meh. Boo. The Fish & Chips? Fries were the best part. The Alaska Cod fish itself was boring, and ditto for the tartar sauce. $ 15. What did the kids get? My oldest ordered a cheeseburger, it is a burger with cheese, on a bun… and no other toppings. No ketchup, no mustard… we had to ask for some lettuce. And our youngest child ordered the kids Fish & Chips. I think it was $ 7, and I was a little miffed because it was EXACTLY the same portion size as the $ 15 adult plate. Two stars — because this place is spendy(some plates are $ 39), and our service was lacking… we had to wait for a looooong time for drinks, and she rarely checked on us. I took photos of the aftermath. Because, AFTER doing the MATH… THIS was a waste of money.

For the amount of money that each meal costs I would expect quality food. It was not what I experienced. The wait time was 45 mins on a rainy Sunday. People were piling in and I figure the other reviews and the lunch rush meant this place has to be great. Sadly I was mistaken. The servers and host were slow. Friendly, but seemed either high or just careless to being attentive. The food was between $ 14-$ 40 per dish. I think I made a bad choice going for the shepard’s pie. It was lamb, which was why I decided to try it. The veggies were over cooked, and the meal had presentation of microwaved. It was ok, but not worth the time. I do not recommend it. The brodetto. I never had this dish, but it sounded like cioppino. So I got it, and was very disappointed. It was sour and pungent. I asked the server if it was a popular item, and she said people love it. she said I must not like the fennel. I don’t know what fennel taste like, so I can’t compare the taste to anything. But, I know that the soup tastes sour and had a strong vinegar smell. The seafood was overcooked and it looked microwaved too. I then went it back and went to wash out my mouth in the bathroom. As I walked by the kitchen I saw a swarm of fruit flies and notice a horrible smell of garbage. This place was nasty. I asked some guests if they had brodetto before, and they said it is delicious and sweet and tomatoey. So I think we had a bad chef. My bill was $ 80 but I had the brodetto removed. So it was $ 45. But nothing here tasted worth $ 5 worth. I say don’t waste your time here.

Everything we ordered was delicious! The steamed clams were like a deconstructed clam chowder soup. Light, tasty and mild flavors without any negative tastes that can come with a chowder. The chickpeas and kale sauté was so good I tried to get the recipe! The crab cakes came 3 to a plate, on the smaller size, but were fresh without a starchy filling, a side of frisée and sliced peppers came with the cakes, which were a perfect complement for the flavor. We sat at a table in the bar and Dan took amazing care of us! We will most likely come back, more than once before we leave Friday Harbor!

The food is so delicious, it doesn’t even bother me that the waitresses and bar staff weren’t overly pleasant. The gravy on their poutine is unbeatable. The stout spiked chicken sandwich was beyond amazing. Brie? Check. Apple? Check. Thick-sliced bacon? CHECK. The best lunch I’ve had in a long time. We also enjoyed some spicy blood orange margaritas; I love a margarita where you can taste the tequila in a pleasant way, not at «let’s do a shot» levels.

A good hearty meal. Tried the stout spiked chicken sandwich and I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the chicken and paired well with the apple, cheese and bacon slices. The chiabatta bread rounds out the whole meal offering a good base for this huge sandwich. The salad dressing for the mixed greens was good too! I’d pass on the cheesecake… Wasn’t my favorite.

This place is great. A small menu with good food. Try the stout spiked chicken sandwich, it’s delicious, I love the Brie cheese on it. The salad it comes with is wonderful as well. This place is across the street from the ferry but let them know if you’re in a rush, service is typically slow. Try the ginger ale as well, they’re known for it here, refills are not complementary however.
