A decent sandwich shop walkable from the CSU campus. They offer cold and hot sandwiches. My sandwich was decent and they accidentally left off the meat which they were quick to fix. The sandwiches are ok but I’m told I should try a hot sandwich on the next visit. Just an A OK experience… But willing to try it again for a better one.

Ordered a Philly Cheese steak, pretty good, not amazing. Staff was average, not rude, not super friendly. Food came out fast. This place is overall decent option for a quick sandwich.

No doubt about it, the best sandwiches in the state. The Funky Punky and the Reuben are killer. I live in Denver now and can’t find anything even remotely close. They should expand down here — there would be a huge market.

Decent sandwich. Nothing special. Good Pickles, good chip selection. I wasn’t impressed but it wasn’t bad either. Just your basic sandwich with good pickles.

Love this little find! Must try either Philly Cheese Steak or Reuben. Been there several times and satisfied every time — great service too!

This local place really really rocks! Absolutely the best sandwich joint in town! Order the Funky Punky sandwich and you will be in hog heaven — this sandwich is truly an orgasmic gastronomic delight! Only bad thing is it is sooper dooper busy when the CSU college kids are in town so expect a long azz wait but well worth it. Booya!

Great service at the bar, amazing Colorado brew selection and just overall friendly atmosphere. True«east coast» deli menu.

Skip the sandwiches && head straight for the bar to order a spicy pickletini with a side car of bloody mix. It’s the perfect amount of spicy, vodka, and pickle. An absolute must! Okay, grab a sandwich too. I recommend anything grilled with cheese. Yum!

I love the Pickle Barrel. It’s delicious, cheap, and offers many food and drink options. I went here last Saturday with my boyfriend and we ordered our usual pick– something off the special homefries list– topped with eggs. I got the zesty ranchero and added two eggs over easy. For about $ 10, you can’t go wrong! It was tasty and very filling. He ordered the ham it up with two eggs and was happy as well. When you walk into the Pickle Barrel, you have to wait in line to order your food. This is nice because the food is up quickly after you place your order. At PB, you can do the whole«brunch» thing without having to do the full-service restaurant deal where you have a waiter or waitress. They have many non-alcoholic drinks you can get with your food. PB also has a bar. They have cheap and good cocktails, along with TVS. My boyfriend and I got Bloody Marys. You can read the full review of Pickle Barrel’s $ 4 Bloodys here: PB has seats inside, at the bar, and outside. It was still pretty nice last weekend so we sat outside at a picnic table covered in our favorite cartoons from childhood and now :) Also, PB has delicious pickles(regular and spicy) that they serve with their sandwiches and Bloodys. I still have yet to have a sandwich here(I may have had one like 6 years ago.), but want to go back and try one.

A sandwich shop in a college town… I have to say I was a little weary of the choice a coworker has made. My ill thoughts were quickly quelled once I stepped inside. First there is a bar, no I did not drink… too much! JK, since I had to go back to work after lunch but it would have been a great spot to have a local pint. The menu was expansive with tons of sandwich choices. I landed on one of them and it was quite good. Ask for pickles as you pick up your food from the counter. Soon I will be in town for a few days straight and I will be for sure revisiting this eatery.

Legit sandwich shops are few and far between. This is a legit one. With a hole in the wall feel, a hardworking and nice group of workers, and root beer on tap! AND the sandwiches are great too! They don’t cheap out on the meat, and they deliver it HOT. Not spicy, but HOT. You’ll need to let it cool a moment. You can do that by drinking that amazing root beer or enjoying a spicy pickle. I’ll have to try other menu items and see which one’s the best. On future endeavors to Fort Collins, I won’t complain about that quest.

Used to go here a lot as a student, kind of a Fort Collins landmark and it’s convenient to CSU. But I have to say it’s overrated. Sandwiches just alright, menu overwhelming, line long.

I’ve been coming here since 1995, and although the Backcountry Deli makes a great sandwich, the crowds here speak for themselves… Tip…if you eat lunch here, plan on a super light dinner! …Big chewy bread, tasty meats and fixings. …coupled with a cup of French Onion… One can’t go wrong!

The sandwiches are pretty good, and the staff is friendly. It’s super overpriced though. Given the quality of the food and the location, as well as slow service time, they should really cut it down by 40% or so.

I’m very, very satisfied with the sandwiches at this location. As you take a bite, the sandwich melts in your mouth as the flavor explodes like the children flying off a wolf-spider’s back(if you don’t get the reference, look up «Wolf Spider With Babies» on YouTube and it’s the first video. WARNING: Not for the faint of heart or arachnophobes). My personal favorite has been the Kiely’s. The one sandwich I don’t recommend is the Balboa(dry, can’t really taste the garlic). The pickles they serve with the sandwich are on-point. Do the spicy pickle. So good. General Pros: –Sandwiches are delicious, as mentioned above. –Service is great and the sandwiches are delivered quickly(within 5 – 10 minutes. Could be just a bit longer if busy). –There’s always a nice atmosphere inside with good ambient noise. People are talking, you can hear the food cooking since the kitchen is in plain view, etc. Not recommended for people trying to get work done. –Nice selection of sandwiches, drinks(non-alcoholic and alcoholic). Their root beer on tap is delicious. Can’t remember the brand though. General Cons: –Only complaint I have is the layout of the restaurant/location of the doorway. Of course, they have no control over this, but since they’re cramped inside a small place, the layout of the restaurant is a bit bizarre and the front door opens up directly to several of the tables. During the winter, this sucks because it’s FREEZING outside. Overall, would really recommend this place for lunch. It’s a good stop-in to eat, and you can expect a delicious, filling meal to warm you up for the afternoon. However, if you plan to order a full meal(a.k.a., sandwich + chips + drink), then expect to pay just a little over $ 10. Not Taco Bell cheap.

I graduated from CSU many years ago but still think back to the pickle barrel and my stomach growls. Evertime I am in town I stop in for a Toonces on wheat add lettuce and a cup of French onion soup. I highly recommend you do the same.

The pickles are delicious and I have liked all the subs I got here. Pastrami, Italian, roast beef. All have been good. They don’t skimp on the meat or toppings and the price is right. Being so close to a college campus I could see them putting out a shitty product at a low price, but they avoided that trap. Food is great and price is decent. You can probably get a cheaper sub elsewhere but for the food quality it’s well worth it to go here!

This is a great college town sandwich shop with lots of options, a great bar and a little bit of patio seating. If your looking for a New York style deli this is not your place. The creativity put into the sandwiches is impressive and the busy lunch time counter says enough about what you are getting at the pickle barrel. I wish they were open Sundays.
