Food is generic at best. Who knows what’s fresh and what’s frozen. The tiki bar is just ok. It’s amazing if you smoke and enjoy smoke in your face while trying to eat. I for one think that’s disgusting. I understand it’s outdoors but it’s still a restaurant. There needs to be some boundaries. Food is really hit or miss outside. Again, who knows what’s fresh and what’s not. It’s more of w bar. Bar food and such. Don’t have any high expectations. Especially if inhaling second hand smoke while trying to choke down an over cooked burger isn’t your idea of a good time. Oh and if you have to use the restroom while at the tiki bar don’t. You’re better off holding it or just going in a garbage can because it’s filthy, smells, and has zero privacy.

This restaurant is never a disappointment! During my last visit over the summer, I had the MARINER’S PLATTER. It was so delicious! The ambience was filled with energy, the service was excellent and the portion of food was beyond expectation. I decided to share the pleasant experience, so, I purchased a gift certificate for my family members.

Our family loves Captain’s Inn. The service is good and the seafood is really fresh and delicious. We have had many parties there and have never been disappointed. The servers are friendly and they know the menu. We always really enjoy the freshly baked rolls before dinner and cheese and crackers is a trademark of the restaurant. I don’t know how they started putting cheese and crackers on each table but it’s something we have come to enjoy. If you’re in the area, Captain’s Inn is a great place for lunch or dinner. If you’re not in the area, Captain’s Inn is worth the trip. Only reason I left off one star is that the service is slow when they are very busy. But they do say that because each entrée is made fresh it takes a little extra time to prepare. They have delicious deserts and really excellent birthday cake. Let them know when you make your reservation if you’re having a bday party and they will tell you about the cake options. Always a pleasure to go to the Captain’s Inn, a tradition in our family for many years.

From seafood to lamb chops this is definitely the spot that never lets you down. Summer outside Tiki Bar is fantastic too.

I love this local restaurant. They are on the river so you can have dinner or drinks with a view. Came here for dinner last night… Wow. Ordered the she-crab soup which had huge chunks of crab and was extremely flavorful. I had the seafood fra Diablo for dinner which was amazing. The plate was huge and the amount of seafood was unreal. They asked if I wanted it spicy which I did because I love spicy food and my mouth was burning a little bit(which I was happy about)! The portion size was so large I had half to take home for a second meal. The drinks are delicious and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The back room here is often used for parties or weddings. My sister and I both had our sweet sixteens here and had nothing but a positive experience. The owner Debbie is so sweet and really made the day everything we wanted. On the weekends in the summer they do an outdoor brunch at the tiki bar. There are a lot of food options and they have a fresh omelet station. We really enjoy going and highly recommend the Captains Inn! They have dinner specials throughout the week(including prime rib night) and often have live music on the weekends. Be sure to look at the website if you’re looking for something special.

Great place with good food! However, it is slightly overpriced. But it has a tiki bar. You can also get here by boat. From my experience though, only the bigger boats pull up to the restaurant. This place tends to get packed so come early!

The most fun and food is always good. Dock master Don really does a great job managing the docks. Keeps the people coming in. Not the smartest move to close off half the tiki bar for events on the busiest days in the Summer July and August. Duh. We watched people sit in the area long after event has ended and many empty tables in the event area. Why not calculate how much a table generates and fill the tables with paying customers. We have passed by. Seen a event taking place and just left. We usually have a table of 4 Spending at least $ 100. 90 minutes tops. We love the place, but are disappointed when we can’t get a table.

Love this place, have been here many times, and always great food & service … From a small table of 4 to a large table of 12. Food is always yummy. Can’t say the same for the outside bar food … Live in Bayville, so it’s not a far drive

One of the best places to go and have dinner or lunch on the water. Been going my whole life and it get better every year. If going by boat make sure to call ahead especially on bigger boats during busy summer months!

We were visiting in the area and wanted to have a special dinner with our hosts and they suggested this option since I had asked for a local seafood and also, perhaps an Italian spot. This was just right. Perfectly family friendly, good for large groups though noisy because of it. The servings were huge and if we had realized how huge we might have shared some plates. But the leftovers went home for our hosts to use later and that was fine since we got to try so many things. This is traditional enough that many items are fried, but there were also plenty of seafood pastas. The calamari was fresh and light and lightly seasoned so you could really taste the fish. There were choices of dipping sauces, including traditional marinara, but it was nice to have more than one. Everyone who had one of the various scallop preparations loved them. I loved my linguini with clams. I loved the calamari and the crab au gratin. There were so many clams on all the various plates, that we could not finish, but we tried mightily. Apparently their version of surf and turf was terrific too, filet mignon and scallops. I can’t remember what else, some veggies, some fries, some drinks. No room to delve into the dessert menu. We were properly attended to by staff as we needed it. But it is a big bustling place just across the street from the harbor, so always quite busy. Parking can be tight on a busy night, but there is room to park down the street.

I had my wedding reception here and it was amazing, I can’t say enough nice things about Debbie and her staff! They were so pleasant and helpful through the entire planning profess. The room is beautiful and perfect for the nautical theme we were going for. The food is fabulous every time we eat here and all of our guests raved about how awesome the food was. We got so many compliments about how our wedding was one of the best they had ever attended. I can’t thank Debbie and her staff enough for making our night so special and so much fun. Highly recommend!!!

The service was unreal slow when it came to getting our food. No joke, 45 minutes for 5 people’s food. The fish and chips I got were quite good though. Smaller serving compared to any other fish and chips I have had. I would give the coffee a 5 out of 10. Seems to be the place to be for lunch if you are 70 or older. The mints at the hostess station when you leave are chocolate ones.

My girlfriend and I were totally excited to end the summer with seafood by the shore. Our first stop was the restaurant but it looks like it should have been the tiki bar… French Onion soup was OK. As for entrees… I got the Captain’s Combo, all of which was thoroughly overcooked and a side of(probably) instant mashed potatoes. My girlfriend got scallops which were, in this case, more like chewy tiny white tires. Needless to say, we didn’t stay for dessert. The table next to us also complained that their fish had been overcooked so maybe they were having a bad day. We headed off to the tiki bar to meet some family and friends though we didn’t have much time to mingle. What ensued was severe intestinal distress and multiple embarrassing and painful trips to the bathroom. The tiki bar was alright(hence TWO stars instead of ONE), but I would not recommend the restaurant.

Here last night for the second time in as many years. Sat outside on the second floor deck. Had the artichoke milanese(excellent) and eggplant tower(also excellent) to start. Then hamburgers with blue cheese. Very lean beef, well-cooked, good fries to accompany. Our waiter, Eddie S., greeted us with«Hi, folks!» to my surprise as my wife and I have been addressed as «guys» by every waiter under the sun for the last 10 years. I asked him to train his co-workers on this.(Yeah, I’m annoyed by this«guys» thing.) All in all, a very good dining experience, an expert, upbeat, attentive waiter. We definitely will return.

On our return visit tonight, we found our meals to be outstanding and the service superb. Our party of eight had nothing but compliments to the management and staff of this scenic restaurant. We are definitely going to return there again soon. Rose H

Took my mom there tonight for her 70th birthday and was so disappointed. We’ve had the she crab soup before and thought it was delicious thick and full of crab. Tonight it was watery and very little crab. While most people in our party enjoyed their meals. My husband and I ordered crab stuffed lobster tail, it came out completely over cooked. They redid it and it looked perfectly cooked and delicious. We couldn’t wait to dig in… well the second one had absolutely NO flavor! So incredibly disappointed in a restaurant we normally enjoy. I can’t say that I will be willing to try it again though. We aren’t local(from Virginia), so we may have to find another seafood restaurant when we come to visit my mom.

I enjoyed a great meal on Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy — far more than I expected for a cold night in early spring. The lump crab cocktail was delicious, huge lumps of crab meat served in a martini glass. I could have eaten just this and been very satisfied. For my entrée, I had the lobster stuffed with crabmeat and. enjoyed it very much. I finished with key lime pie– this one had a nice tartness to it and it was a great finish to an enjoyable meal. Our waitress was personable, service was on point and the price was quite reasonable considering all we had. I look forward to a return visit

Spent a sunny Saturday driving to here. We met with two members of our family and were seated at a nice sunny table. The room was bright, friendly and clean, But the fried flounder wasn’t very good and after picking two human hairs out of it, my wife stopped eating. My brother’s scallops were not very good either. My sister and I had sandwiches which were okay. We did complain about the flounder and it was taken off the bill. My rice pudding was served in a sundae glass and if I had turned it upside down the rice pudding would have come out and stayed in the shape of the glass… the top and sides were dried out. So, although we have eaten here quite a few times since 1969, this time may be the last!
