Bought a $ 30 cake yesterday and upon returning home found there is mold on the cake top fruits. Very disappointed. The chef probably knew it and purposefully put the mold contaminated fruits face down so you don’t see it when you buy the cake. You need to check the fruits immediately once you get the cake. Overpriced too.

Oh this joint closes at 10pm? I was here one day at 6:30pm thinking, «oh they must be closing soon» because only half the store was stocked. I read somewhere that the pineapple cakes here are comparable to that of SunnyHills(which is what brought me here in the first place). In case you were sent to this store for the same reason, ABORT! The pineapple cakes are nowhere near as good as SunnyHills. Even the price isn’t comparable. $ 3.25EACH(SunnyHills is $ 1.50). There were two people behind the counter ringing people up but only one was working. The person in front of me in line wanted special orders and to ask a bunch of questions. The workers didn’t have the sense to think, «hey the three people behind only has one item each, let me ring them up so they can get on with their day». Don’t bother asking the servers any questions either because they don’t know anything.

I can’t describe this place in just one word. AMAZING! DELICIOUS! FANTASTIC! The trunk bread is amazingly soft! The feeling when you take the first bite is like stepping in a cloud. Delicious! I don’t know why this has 3.5 stars. This should at least be a 5! Best bakery in Flushing. Much better than Paris Baguette and it has a very large variety! They have amazing cakes too!

I am so freaking glad we didn’t just walk pass this bakery! I loved every single bao & dessert I bought from this place. Everything was so delicious that I finished $ 27 worth of baos in a day. Very clean and chic bakery.

Iris could make someone think of Isis which is unfortunate for this bakery’s names. It’s OK, though! This place isn’t a terrorist hideout. I checked. Terrorists couldn’t possibly make Japanese Cream Puff’s this good.

Pros: 1) This is the only spot I’ve found in NY that serves Hokkaido Milk Tea. Yes, it’s from powder, but what do you expect for not being in Japan? It’s still delicious as all heck. 2) The Taiwanese pineapple cakes – the litmus test of Taiwanese pastries – are big, soft and perfect. Stock up on these cubed bad boys and munch them on the go, wherever you are. Cons: 1) They no longer make charcoal pastries. Last year, my Taiwanese family and I were floored by a series of dark, almost black pastries Iris was selling, including black pineapple cakes. We talked to the manager, who explained that this was a new invention, in which they mixed certain secret ingredients to make the black dough. Those charcoal pastries were some of the most incredible things I’ve ever eaten, and I’ve come back repeatedly hoping they will be back, but each time, the staff just shake their head and say no. 2) Seating isn’t abundant, so be prepared to wait, though turnover is generally pretty fast. 3) They’re not good at re-stocking, so the later in the day you come, the more likely you will find empty display cases.

Ordered a Hello Kitty birthday cake for my daughter’s first birthday. Steven was so patient in designing the cake for me. He made a lovely cake that everyone was so impressed with at a reasonable price. The service exceeded my expedition. I highly recommend this bakery.

Service here was good– I asked one of the servers for advice between two taro pastries and she was very descriptive and gave good advice. I highly recommend the taro cube– it’s a cube of bread with subtly sweet taro filling. It’s not heavy at all and not at all too sweet. I’ve never seen any other pastry like it, even at similar places. It was the summer so there were quite a few flies in the cases.

I was expecting something better. I saw few flies in some of their pastry cases. Pastries I got was ok. I don’t know their name but the one I got was green tea pastry with red bean inside. That one wasn’t so good. I got tricked by their Japanese letters outside its building. But this place isn’t a Japanese pastry:(

Beware of going to them for a wedding cake consult! They will give you ridiculous pricing and try to make you pay way more than you should. The only reason we went to them is because they have a relationship with the hotel next door where we are holding our reception. We were entitled to a complimentary basic 3-tier cake if we have a certain number of guests — however we can upgrade the cake if we pay for the difference. We wanted to know the cost of an upgrade and also the cost of a cake if we were to purchase it independently since we’re not sure how many guests we were going to have. At this point, we had obtained quotes from a few bakeries(like Silk Cake, City Bakery, Betty Bakery — all very reputable bakeries specializing in wedding cakes) so we know the ballpark of how much a cake cost for the design we want. We wanted a white fondant cake with 4 tiers with some flowers — simple right? Anyway, they were quoting us extraordinary prices to upgrade the cake. Adding an extra tier(4 tiers total), 1 sugar flower(only one!!) and lace design on simple white fondant was going to cost $ 800 to ugrade?!? Purchasing it independently would cost over $ 1,500! There is no way that such a simple cake would cost that much. They were obviously taking us for a ride. I could get a really 4-tier wedding cake with MANY sugar flowers from an actual wedding cake bakery for way less. In term of the taste, it’s sponge cake with various asian flowers — definitely nothing special. If you want Asian flavors, I would check out Silk Cake. Otherwise, check out City Bakery, Betty Bakery, etc — just avoid this place to get your wedding cake unless you want to be taken for a ride.

There are so many bakeries in Flushing. It’s nice to find one that is so creative with their selection. When you walk in, your nose is hit with the smell of freshly baked bread. There are probably dozens of varieties of Asian cakes, pastries, and breads. What I got: Ham and Cream Cheese Bread — soft and fluffy Asian bread stuffed with ham and cream cheese. Custard Cream Bread — I was in the mood for sketching sweet but not too sweet and this one fit the bill. The bread is super light and airy with a light custard filling. Bacon & Cheese Stick — nice balance between the sweet bread and the salt bacon. The prices are a little higher than most asian bakeries but the interior is nice and inviting. Will be back again to try more!

After recently been closed for maintenance. Iris is back open for business. There’s a fairly large selection of pastries, buns, breads and cakes to choose from. and most are priced fairly. Slightly more expensive than other bakeries like Taipan or Fay Da, but definitely cheaper than Paris Baguette or Tour Les Jours. They also have a variety of drinks available, as well as, bubble tea w/choices of tapioca, coffee jelly, and coconut jelly available. I like the interior, it’s simple, with floor to ceiling windows and high ceilings. They have seating near the entrance but the seats aren’t comfortable. Once you enter, the aroma of fresh baked bread is delightful! Just warms you and attracts you to buy something! So far, I’ve tried about 10 of their pastries and buns, my favorite, being this red circular shaped bun that has a small center filled with raspberry jelly. Its really soft and only slightly sweet. I bought a taro cake as well, which was just okay. I would prefer Paris Baguette chiffon cakes any day! Their bubble tea is good. However, I would not buy their macarons. I made the mistake of buying them, and I did not enjoy the taste at all. And $ 12 for 5? Me thinks not. –_– Overall, pretty solid bakery. Easily accessible on the corner of Prince & Roosevelt.

One of my favorite bakeries in Flushing; Fresh selection of bread and pastries and a decent variety of drinks to choose from as well. I also that it has quite an spacious interior and is conveniently located on a corner in Flushing. Not many seatings, but it seems like a good place to have a coffee with a friend. Place is also very clean. which is always as a plus!

I visit Iris Tea & Bakery from time to time. They definitely don’t have the best bread or pastries that I’ve ever tried, but it’s one of my to-go-bakeries in the Flushing area. It’s really a Taiwanese/Chinese bakery with some Japanese influence. Food: I usually go for the matcha red bean roll, which is my favorite. Nothing can ever go wrong with a matcha and red bean combination. The roll has layers and layers of texture. The bread is chewy and soft and it’s accompanied with red bean paste and also pastry cream. It’s adequately but not overly sweet. Every bite is deliciousness. I’ve tried some of their other breads before and desserts too. The Hokkaido pineapple bun is very soft and light. The Soufflé bread has a crunchy top, with a soft interior and a coconut filling that’s a little sweet. The mini hot dog bun is a good alternative for a savory bun – it certainly doesn’t feel heavy or have that super oily feeling that you get from most Chinese bakeries that serve it. The brown rice matcha pudding is great too! I find the items at Iris hybrid-like. It’s soft, without being oily or overly sweet like most Chinese or Korean bakeries. Service: It’s Chinese service – so don’t expect too much, but you really only interact with them at the cashier. Ambiance: Casual, trendy – there are couple tables and seats at the bar for you to eat at.

Iris Tea and Bakery is different from most Chinese bakeries. I think it definitely caters to a younger crowd since they offer a variety of coffees that would compete with a Starbucks and their store is modern in design, clean, and welcoming enough to be a coffee shop environment. They had a lot of pastries that I had never seen before which was a nice surprise, we had the mexican chocolate and cheese bun, a raspberry type of donut and then another stuffed bun made with matcha. Although their prices were a bit higher than their more standard counterparts, they offer some truly tasty pastries based on the items I tried. I particularly like the matcha bun and mexican chocolate cheese bun since the fillings were incredibly good without being overbearingly sweet. The raspberry donut was rather uneventful and flavorless minus the filling in the center. Overall, the food is very good and totally worth the small premium. In addition to pastries, they also do wedding cakes and I was pretty impressed by the fondant work they did on a cake made to resemble a wedding dress, $ 3000 for that bad boy but very well done.

Another cute bakery in Flushing more similar to Paris and Tous Les Jours. Their pastries and breads are pretty unique. My favorite item in the store is their jello puddings! I’ve tried most of the flavors and my favorite is the grapefruit with lychee jelly inside. They also make a green tea and mango crêpe cake that I thought was alright because it had way too much cream in it and not enough crepes. It’s nothing at all like the Lady M cake, which was what I was thinking of. I do like how they give you thick candles for the cake! And they even give you candle holders.

Really like this bakery with its more upscale vibe and high quality breads. There is a decent amount of space inside for seating and place was very clean. It’s a self serve bakery, so you grab what you want. There were so many unique flavors of bakery to choose here! Got a Japanese raspberry bread, taro square, Taiwanese style Pineapple bun, and I forgot the last the one I bought. But, I really recommend the raspberry bread! It was soft and fluffy and just had that hint of raspberry taste in the dough topped with some raspberry jam. The pineapple bun turned out a little dry for me, but I liked how it was hollow with some sweet mixture inside. A little pricey. but worth it!
