My belly was not feeling good and I wanted some congee but did not want to go to Flushing and deal with parking. Called my Korean friend who took me here. We ordered the sea ear porridge(which is abalone). The porridge here is much denser than the chinese version. The juk was top with a little bit of crush black sesame seeds and some pine nuts. Itfor 16.00 its a big bowl and can be shared between 2 people. Comes with sides(kimchi, shredded beef, pickle ginger and pickle daicon juice) The abalone was cut up in little pieces, blends well with the juk and just big enough for you to feel them in your mouth. It was delicious and hit the spot! Will definitely come back

This place has a very soft welcome, the porridge here is unbelievable good. Service here is so so, the waiters doing taking outs and serving at the same time. The food took 25min to be prepare which was worth the wait.

Ridiculously delicious! This is by far the best congee I’ve had, even in Hong Kong. I mean, it was really, really good. We had a party of 8, so we got to try each other’s order, and all were great. My favorite was the oyster! Mmm, mmm, mmmm!

Some fancy porridge can be found here! While you can probably get simpler, Chinese versions at a quarter of the price over in Flushing(also mostly for breakfast), this is a place dedicated to all different kinds of juk, sweet and savory. They do not come cheap(for porridge anyway), but the ingredients include selections from seafood to ginseng. The portions are also huge, probably more than one would usually want for breakfast. Good for brunch or maybe lunch though. The color of my porridge hinted at how much seasoning and flavor it had – definitely didn’t taste anything like plain rice water. Instead, it had lots of chicken strips along with scallion and ginseng pieces. The few banchan on the side were a great complement as well. The wait for your order is a bit long, though they explain on their menu that everything is made fresh, so keep that in mind.

Congee! I think. Juk? Rice porridge. Either way, this is what this place has… and only has. There are a lot of different flavors and options for the soup dish and we decided to get the ginseng chicken and spicy kimchee octopus. They were both pretty good. I liked the ginseng chicken a little more than the spicy kimchee but no complaints. Each dish comes with a little assortment of korean appetizer dishes. I don’t see myself coming here during the summer, but it’s a good place to go when it’s a chilly out. The hostess was very friendly and we were seated right away(it was kind of empty).

Ordered the chicken and ginseng juk without scallions; however, still got scallions as part of my order. Regardless, I ordered the juk for my friend who had food poisoning and it was very good. The consistency of it was a bit too thick, but the flavors are there and the addition of the soy sauce beef, kimchi, and paste on the side works really well in the bowl.

It seems that many cultures have their version of porridge. Filipinos have lugao or arroz caldo, the Chinese have congee, and I just realized Koreans have their version of rice porridge as well. The restaurant is clean and has a contemporary décor. Classical music was playing soothingly in the background. It was not very busy on the Wednesday night when we dined there. We were quickly seated and cups of hot barley tea were served. We decided to order the bulgogi and octopus porridge, as well as the mixed seafood porridge. These came with small side dishes of kimchi, flavouring paste, shredded beef, and a garlic onion radish cold soup. The bulgogi octopus porridge was delicious and was more flavourful than the mixed seafood porridge. Apparently they have dessert porridge too but we didn’t order this. Portion sizes are generous so keep that in mind when ordering. If you don’t have a big appetite, one porridge could easily suffice for 2 people.

If you like juk(congee, or porridge), you will love this place. Great price for a large serving, and certainly hearty and flavorful. Very comforting. Tried the seafood combo, and it was excellent. The space, while small, is very comfortable and clean.

Boyfriend ordered a chicken congee for me and brought it over since I’m rotting away in bed because of this stupid cold. But the congee has uplifted me and gave me this warm feeling inside. It was creamy and savory and I even tasted it through my bland taste palette due to my cold.

These Korean congees are delicious! Congees(or rice porridges) are known to be bland food for the sick. The Korean version of congee is really flavorful but not overwhelming. I’ve never heard of Bonjuk until I heard a few people talking about it on Unilocal. They’ve been open for more than 10 years apparently. I ordered 3 bowls to go: chicken with oriential ingredients(doesn’t come with ginseng anymore), abalone with mushroom, and bulgogi with octopus. By the time I washed my hands and went to the kitchen to grab a bowl, 2 of the 3 congees were gone and my family really enjoyed it. I was left to only try the bulgogi with octopus and it was fantastic! I love the little sides that comes with the dish. The containers are microwavable, but they look super flimsy. All I need are those Chinese sweet fried dough and Chinese dried up pork flakes and I am a happy camper. Though I think prices are super inflated, I will definitely come back when I’m feeling under the weather. Also, grab a business card, they have the entire menu on the back of it. P. S. Lady in the front is super duper nice, but her English is very limited. It took a couple of tries to ask her if she can write the name of the congees on the containers. Should have google translated. haha.

Craving for their congee upon seeing in Unilocal.I love rice porridge. I grew up in the country that it is considered a meal, with all the garnishes we placed on top of it or with it… It just delish. The place is empty when we walked in, it is a late Saturday dinner for us and they’ll be closing in an hour. We were hungry after watching a movie, temperature outside is at low 50’s …this is the perfect spot. The food did not disappoint us. It comes in big serving. If they offer food aside than porridge, e. g roll, chicken that could match with it, one bowl can be shared by two. It comes with standard Korean side dishes, kimchi, hunger, daikon and the shredded beef. We learned that the watery radish(daikon) is to cleanse the palette, pretty interesting. The shredded beef has soy sauce flavor for added taste in the porridge. Enjoyed my beef and mushroom porridge. It is so tasteful. Heavenly! My husband enjoyed his shrimp porridge too. Even without side dishes, it is good enough. My one star was taken out for their pricing. It is expensive comparing to a traditional Chinese congee. I am thinking if the price difference was for the natural and healthy ingredients they advertising they’re using(which makes the difference in taste!). I’ll come back and will try their other variety. This is now my favorite congee spot.

Yes it’s more expensive than Chinese Jook, but each portion is more than enough for two. Service in ok, the lady handles the phones, the takeout and has to serve. So when it’s busy expect to wait.

Once you’ve had Bonjuk in one location, you’ve had them everywhere. This Korean porridge chain is 100% consistent on taste and presentation in all their locations wether its in Korea or US. Whenever I want to be nice to my body, I come here to have a healthy meal. I have the non spicy choices when I want to be completely healthy and the spicy ones when I don’t. Service here is hit or miss. They’re nice but not very attentive. My favorite thing about Bonjuk is the glass of pumpkin juice at the end of the meal.

Love the kimchi squid jook. I get it for any of my family members when they’re sick. I get two, one for them and one for me. One portion is huge so it can be another snack/meal. They take cash only. They have a small parking lot to the left of their left adjoining store. I usually park on the side streets where it’s residential so I can avoid the street parking on Northern. I usually call before I leave to place the order and it’s ready by the time I arrive. But sitting in is a treat too, clean and they play classical music. This time around I asked if I could get more of the side dishes and she looked at me like of course and packed me some more. I took someone’s advice once and started mixing in all the side dishes into the jook. I guess it’d work really well with non-spicy dishes but with already spicy dish it’s saltier. I should stop but now I’m hooked. I keep meaning to try other ones but when I’m there, I crave the kimchi squid. And by the time you’re done, you’re just way too full. One star off cuz I feel like as health conscious Koreans you could try to make it less salty. Also, a brown rice option would be delightful.

The only place i would go to in LOSANGELES for JUK(rice porridge) I have tried a few but i always come back to BON Juk. They have free parking in the rear. The staff is very friendly. I have tried almost all the variations of JUK. All pretty good. Keep in mind it takes them a little bit of time to get your order together as they make it in the back. take out is at least 10 – 15 minutes from the time you call your order. The radish squid paste is to die for! Thank You!

You get a lot of juk(porridge) but the side dishes… meh. I’ve eaten in and have done take out but this take out session was … pretty bad. #1. RUDE on the phone #2. RUDE in person #3. Jangjorim(small little meat dish) had a weird smell/taste to it. I’m Korean and I know what jangjorim is supposed to taste like, and that wasn’t it. Eaten there before and it never tasted like that. #4. One spoon though I ordered 2 dishes. Not sure what the little ol’ lady’s problem was but it left a sour taste in my mouth. Outside of that the place is a solid 4. Good for when you’re sick or have digestive problems, but for the amount of money I’d eat somewhere else.

It’s a warm day, which may not be ideal for a hot bowl of porridge, but I didn’t feel like going there on a cold day because it’s a walk from the train station and the stores on the boulevard aren’t interesting for window shopping. So I waited to go on a warm and beautiful day. I ordered the Vegetable porridge. It’s a big bowl which can be shared. The porridge is served with a side of kimchi, pickled ginger, strings of beef and daikon broth. I was sweating while eating the porridge. I also had a delicious cup of pumpkin juice, naturally sweetened. I like porridge because it’s easy to eat, just like baby food that taste good. I had a flu and with all the coughing, my throat hurts, then porridge makes the perfect meal. I ordered the black sesame porridge and the sweet pumpkin porridge to go, since this place is far away. I didn’t expected the black sesame porridge to be savory. It’s not salty but it has a savory taste instead of being sweet. The pumpkin porridge has black beans and glutinous balls in it. Both black sesame and sweet pumpkin porridge are thick and creamy.

My friend wasn’t feeling good and she was craving congee. So Bonjuk it was… haha I like porridge, but I’ve never been to Bonjuk, so I was definitely interested in eating there. When we got here, I thought the interior looked like one of those porridge house I see sometimes in Korean dramas. lol One look at the menu, and I was surprised to see they only served porridge! Nothing else! loll No big deal, but it was just surprising. I’ve never seen so many different combinations of porridge. EVER. And me, having such a sweet tooth, I decided to get the Sweet Pumpkin Porridge, while my friend had the Oyster and Mushroom. Food came fairly quickly. 2HUGE bowls of juk, with 3 small banchan. and a bowl of what looked like clear water and pieces of daikon. which I assumed was to cleanse your palette. I tried a small bowl of my friend’s Oyster and Mushroom juk, and I thought it was very tasty! Lots of flavor, even without mixing the spices. My Sweet Pumpkin was also very flavorful, and had the perfect level of sweetness. Wasn’t overpowering. Unfortunately, I was too full from breakfast earlier(Half a quart of ice cream), so I took half my bowl to go. lol I will definitely be back to try their other juk on the menu. The octopus juk looks really yummy! :D

The juk was hugeeee and piping hot. It’s the perfect food for someone who is feeling under the weather. I ordered the beef and seaweed after. I personally looooove soup and I feel like juk and soup go hand in hand. At other places, I always get the clay pot porridge. This place serves Korean juk. The juk was filled with ground beef & lots of seaweed. I felt it was under seasoned and okay. However, the porridge comes with a variety of side dishes to keep you interested. My friend ordered the veggie and I thought hers was better. Overall, I would only come here if I am really craving this specific type of juk. It’s very pricey for something so simple.
