best breakfast joint in the city, hands down. huge portions, fresh food, and good service. ive been eating here for almost twenty years and they havent let me down yet. although i think breakfast is their specialty, their other menu items are just as good. the worst thing i can say about the restaurant is that they desperately need to remodel to accomodate more«common» physiques. if you have even moderately sized«love handles» you cannot dine in comfortably. the booths are TINY. they do have a counter and some free standing tables but takeout is definitely the best option. i feel comfortable recommending spring garden pizza to anyone.

The cheesesteaks are really tasty. I custom ordered mine with pizza sauce, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. The nice elderly woman behind the counter is very hospitable and everything was made just the way I like. I’ll have to come back to try the pizza and fries. It’s conveniently located right next to PhilaMOCA theater.

AVOIDTHISPLACEATALLCOSTS! The owners discriminate against black patrons. My elderly aunt wanted a plate of grits/bacon, so she sent her nephew to pick it up. The female owner stopped him at the front door, and asked what he wanted. He asked for the grits, to which she responded,“We don’t have any!” and promptly walked him to the door! Then the male owner watched him walk back to the house, making sure which direction he traveled! Now perhaps your thinking this is an isolated incident… but the same thing happened a month earlier. Went in to get a cup of coffee. Met at the door, and replied, «We don’t have any coffee!!» And he was walked to the door. From now on we will patronize Spring Garden Restaurant. They treat their customers with respect and dignity, offer cheaper prices, and better food.

Solid value for the money – we had omelets – and a friendly old school staff. Not fancy, but satisfying diner fare. Quick service and full of cops and locals when we went – clearly a fan fave.

Such a wide variety of food that you can get– ranging from pizza to breakfast options to hoagies to pasta, etc and the list goes on. I am a regular at this place– great prices, large portions, and lots of Italian goodness.

Really nice owners and good portions for cheap. The Spanish fries are really good and the pizza is average. The atmosphere is very cheap pizza place like and I mean it is cheap but again it’s pretty good. Very good service and quick.

Been buying from spring garden pizza for more then 10 years There food has always been fresh and always very large servings. Not like a lot of restaurants that get skimpy on the food Delivery can be slow sometimes but always worth the wait The owner is always there and very helpful I would highly recommend and look forward to many more years buying from them

This is the closest food joint to my apartment so i’ve ventured out a few times. The atmosphere is like an 80s family owned diner. I so wanted to love this place but it falls short. Pros: Lots of meat options, large servings, home style, cheap Cons: Inconsistency. If you’ve been to a small family restaurant, the most obvious thing that bugs me is that their food is inconsistent. Sometimes good, sometimes eh. So I dont eat meat, and I think if you do, you’ll like this place a whole lot more than me. My bf has gotten some of the chicken sandwiches, and he loves them. The large lasts 2+ meals. My last visit I got spanish fries and veggie pizza. DONOTGETTHEIRPIZZA. It’s awkward because it’s family owned and I feel bad making a fuss. My pizza fresh from the oven, had little puddles of water. I looked at the waitress, she didn’t seem to see a problem. I ate a couple slices and by that point the water seeped through making 75% of the dough wet. I was done. My bf got the lunch special, springgarden chicken salad, chicken soup, and fries. He like it very much. I was in a sour mood and taking it out on the bf. It sucks spending money when the food doesnt live up to it. ESPECIALLY, while watching him enjoy his. Overall my experience was a 2 my bf experience was a 4, so I compromised with a 3 star rating.

I’ve only gotten pizza here but it’s great thin crust pizza with fresh ingredients. Can’t beat that!

I’ve found myself here on a few afternoons when the bf and I were hungry and didn’t feel like walking too far to eat. The food is pretty good for diner food, there’s a big menu, the portions are huge, and I find the woman who usually waits on us to be quite endearing. She always recommends things on the menu without prompting, tells me I don’t actually want breakfast anymore because it’s the afternoon(she’s probably right), and tells me that I’m «gorgeous», even when I’m unshowered and sleep-deprived. Eggs with a side of flattery? Yes, please.

I live in the neighborhood, and this is one of the closest places around me. It’s a restaurant ran by a very kind Portuguese family. The atmosphere has nothing too exciting about it, and their menu has too many different things to offer. They do have pretty nice sandwiches, like the Italiano and the grilled chicken royal. And I enjoy their pizza a lot more than other regular places. But the majority of my other orders have been slightly disappointing.

First off, this review is only for their breakfast, as that is all I’ve had here. Spring Garden has the diner breakfast that much of the Spring Garden/Fairmount area is missing. They serve healthy — OK… large, portions of almost any dish. Don’t expect gourmet, but rather simple, tasty diner food. Their grits have passed the southern test by myself and another southern friend. The potatoes are excellent, eggs done correctly and served in threes. I’ve never had the pancakes or french toast, but they look delicious. All of this is accomplished without paying a premium. For the most part, we normally spend less than $ 7/person including coffee. This isn’t a hip brunch spot, and you won’t be charged like it is.
