It was my first time visiting the shop and I was lucky enough to have the owner serve me. Tonio Justiniano gave the best customer service, talked to me about the pastries of Bolivia and even heated up a Yucatan cheese pastry for me. It was so tasty! It reminded me of my childhood in San Diego and I instantly had to buy 4 more! Haha. I am new to Falls Church and Milan Latino Bakery is an absolute gem! I will be returning as often as I can!

I echo the comments of Keith, Ross, and Lynette. I love the idea of supporting mom and pop stores over national chains(especially minority-owned businesses), and really wanted to support this place, so I gave them three chances to win that support. Each of my visits proved to be identical — a mediocre product served in unclean surroundings by staff members that are particularly unfriendly. What a shame.

New ownership and now it’s a Bolivian bakery called Milan Latino Bakery. We went this morning and the owner was very friendly and we had a delicious warm empanadas. Worth giving a second chance if you didn’t like the bakery before or thought the person at the front was rude(which made me not go very much before).

Wow! What great empanadas and saltenas! I can’t wait to go back and try more. This is really good homemade food.

I was smiling and excited as i pulled up in front of the rundown, hole in the wall looking donut and bakery! I was high fiving myself… thinking i found another falls church gem! Empty donut trays, empty baskets of pastries… and the guy at the counter didn’t speak english. I tried to ask questions about the empanadas and donuts… he had to call someone from the back to explain to me that the empanadas are filled with chicken. I asked how much — she didn’t know :( I at least wanted to try the donuts and an empanada. I ordered the strawberry donut and grabbed a chicken empanada. Paid, and left. The place looked too depressing to dine in. The donut was very stale as i was dreading, one bite and in the trash it went… it wasn’t strawberry at all. It was just pink frosting. The empanada was not chicken… it was beef. Le Sigh… Need i say more?! :(

I was headed to Penzey’s, in Falls Church, and decided I’d like to hit up a bakery for a weekend treat. I did a google maps search and Milan Bakery was the nearest one. I was feeling adventurous, and I am so glad that I checked it out! I had a Boston Cream Donut, and it was stellar. It was not heavy and greasy, like so many chain donuts. It was very fresh and the pastry cream was just right. I had a new batch of homemade jam at home, so, of course, I got a croissant to go. It may have been the best croissant I’ve had in the states. It doesn’t look fancy on the outside… or the inside, but the food is awesome. It’s the best $ 2.46 I spent this weekend!

The donuts are good and don’t taste fake or processed like the big chains(ie Dunkin Donuts). I particularly like the honey dipped and Bavarian cream. If you’re in the area give them a try. I agree with a previous reviewer that sometimes its hit or miss with freshness.

I was sent here by my boss to buy a cake. A Tres Leches cake. The woman who works here really speaks hardly any English. Luckily one of her friends was in and she translated for me =) I had one taste of the cake. Otherwise my trainer would have killed me. It was good! =)

I admire entrepreneurs and always support the locals before any chain, but this place sucked. Poor service and poor doughnuts. Owner definitely needed some cheering up. Hey, thanks for coming in! Hey, see you next time! Hey, come in the morning when they are fresh, they taste amazing! Hey, have a free sample! Nothing like that. Basic business practice if you ask me…

The boy and I woke last Saturday morning with a donut craving. To quote my favorite movie, «It’s like we have ESPN or something!» Since we were going to be in the Falls Church area, I suggested Milan Bakery & Miss Donut, a place that I have passed by many times before due to my frequent trips to Meat in a Box across the street. The outside of the store is very run down and the interior does not have much going on for it either — — dusty cases and fingerprinted cases everywhere. The counter was unmanned because the shopkeep was hand mixing some dough in the back(a plus in my book!). After that, our experience only went downhill from there. First of all there were hardly any donuts left(perhaps people had ransacked up the place in preparation for Hurricane Sandy!?). That is fine and good news for them but they left empty pans sitting out there which made the place look haphazard and dirty. The service wasn’t much to write about, I and several other customers tried to make friendly conversation with the lady up front about her homemade donuts and all we got was a hostile grunt. Lady, you are selling donuts one of the most happiest pastries in the world! You may hate your life but don’t bring down your patrons as well. The donuts were okay. The flavor was good but they didn’t have that warm-you-up and put-a-smile-on-your-face feeling that a homemade donut should bring. These are one of the rare times I should have listened to my boyfriend and gone to Dunkin’ Donuts instead. However, if anybody has any local donut suggestions let me know! This experience has only intensified my craving for holey pastries!

As I am always on the look out for the non existent shops of Arlington(doughnuts, delis, pizza by the slice), I am willing to travel a bit outside the area for research purposes. Driving to Falls Church on a Saturday morning along with finding the doughnut shop was easy enough. It is somewhat small but they have tables and chairs allowing the customers to enjoy their treat onsite. There was probably 15 different types of doughnuts along with maybe another 8 or so types of pastry/treat. Additionally they were offering a bacon egg and cheese croissant for about $ 5 which I did not order but another fellow behind me decided on — it was actually pretty big and made me second guess my own selection. Note this may be a cash only establishment. Now if I could remember the 15 types of doughnuts there I would list them all here however my brain is a sieve. I ended up getting 1 cinnamon roll and 1 pastry which was fried dough stuffed with cheese and topped with powdered sugar. The cinnamon roll was fantastic — not overly sweet, no nuts, doughy, and a healthy amount of cinnamon. The pastry was decadent however it was a step below the cinnamon roll. There was a lack of contrast meaning that it had sweet and neutral notes even with the cheese. While I enjoyed this immensely, and would recommend trying at least once, next time I will opt for a doughnut. The girl was with me on this adventure and also purchased two donuts — a honey glazed and a apple fritter. I am assuming the glaze was great as it was gone before I could even try it. The apple fritter lasted a few seconds longer allowing me to taste what was a very good fritter. It was heavier and sweet, breaking apart in to chunks. The apple and cinnamon flavors were prevalent. Very enjoyable. To sum it up. 4 delicious treats and a medium coffee = $ 5.99. I will be back.

I really want to love this bakery. Mom and and pop donut shops are rare these days and we need to support them whenever we can. Unfortunately, these donuts are not terribly good. Not horrible mind you, but nothing to go out of your way for. Now the ham and cheese croissant was very good and I would stop again for this if I am in the area.

I went Saturday 4÷2÷2011, mid-morning. I got 6 donuts for around $ 4.50. Coconut, toasted coconut, Bavarian, vanilla with sprinkles, chocolate chocolate, and sugar. They were my first donuts made by a human being and not a machine(Entenmann’s). They were pretty good! The only disappointing one was the sugar twist. I had one bite and threw it away. My favorite was the toasted coconut. I’ll be back for more donuts. Since it’s a bakery, they had other items on the menu – croissants and assortments of breads. I also saw them icing a cake in the back. They sell coffee, too. They have tables for people to sit. If you’re in Falls Church I definitely recommend supporting the local bakery.

Totally depends on the day. There are some mornings when the donuts that come off the shelf are some of the best things in the world. Other mornings their donuts are stale and taste like they have been sitting on the bench for a day/night doubleheader. Breakfast sandwiches are decent, the ham and cheese croissant is outstanding. Best available donut is the toasted coconut. Everything else is inconsistent. If you carry around good karma, or stand up with cash when you sit at the roulette table, then head on by Milan. It might just be a good day for a donut.

Milan Bakery totally rocks. For awhile I was going every weekend. Then I kept inviting my friends to meet me there for weekend breakfast. These people make kick-ass sticky buns and killer egg/chorizo/cheese breakfast sandwiches! It was getting so packed in there that they had to remove some furniture and add some tables(it’s teeny!). You have to get there early for the sticky buns. The owners are awesome. It’s a family business. They make hand-dipped donuts as well. Go ahead and impress your office with the non Dunkin donut alternative. Sweet! This place turns out to be a meet-you-half-way place for me and my arlington peeps. Home fries kick-ass here. It’s priced really well. These people need to get more help in the kitchen since there within walking distance of all those new residential condos going in on S. Maple! Delicious!!!
