This review is for their 2013 Chardonnay. I know this page is for the winery but I felt the need to share my thoughts on this. I love wine — both reds and whites. I lean towards reds and have a select few whites on my list. I personally think chardonnay’s are hit or miss with very little in between. So I tend to not like very many chardonnay’s compared to when I first started drinking wine. Most recently I was staying in Coronado and found a nearby delivery service that delivers wine at very affordable prices(I know, total heaven right? Look up High Tide Bottle Shop & Kitchen). I passed on a couple of Russian River chardonnay’s from the wine list and I am glad I did. Let me just cut to the chase. I googled this chardonnay and someone described it as crisp, light, slightly fruit(but not sweet) and they were correct. This is now one of my favorite chardonnay’s — I’m even looking at their website to possibly join their wine club and I haven’t even been to their winery. I’m not very savvy on the technical terms used to describe wine so hopefully I am doing this wine the justice it is due. It is not a heavy, vapor-like chardonnay that burns your throat or palette. This is a great wine that I can imagine drinking during a California summer day on it’s own or with food. During the summer I tend to reach for a pinot grigio and save chardonnay for a heavy fish dinner at night or lunch. I hope you enjoy this chardonnay as much as I did.

We brought a limo bus with 30 people here for a bday… the wine was okay, the server was a very sweet young man, but the tastings were $ 30 per person!!! Wtf… I’m an experienced wine taster and that is crazy talk! I’m even a member at several wineries, and was floored at the price and quality, completely not worth it.

A bit about us: We have been wine tasting in many places from northern California, Santa Barbara/San Ynez area down to Temecula. I say that just so you know we have some experience in wine tasting. Fallbrook winery is hands down our favorite. First of all, the wine quality is surprisingly delightful. For a small winery they have a wide variety of wines you can taste so it is well worth the cost for the tasting. Secondly, it isn’t crowded like most of the wineries we’ve been too — so the experience is much more enjoyable. Finally, the people are absolutely wonderful. Izaac served us and he was as pleasant and funny as he was knowledgeable. I felt as though we walked out with some great wine and some new friends! The entire experience was the best we’ve ever had at ANY winery… and they still let you keep the glass — other wineries should take a page out of Fallbrook Winery’s customer service manual — no snobs here — they make you feel comfortable and as though they really want you there. We will keep coming back for sure — we joined the club — it is a great value especially for the quality of the wine you will receive. We are fortunate enough to live in Fallbrook, but had never dropped in — we are so delighted that we did! Looking forward to our next visit!

I was in Fallbrook for the afternoon at the other winery in the area and we were seriously underwhelmed. So while at the other winery I called Fallbrook wines and spoke with Cory to make our appointment. He was professional and polite, even when I called again to change our appointment time. When we arrived Isaac who usually handles the tastings wasn’t there so Jorge the manager got us started. Jorge was friendly, and personable cracking jokes while we got started. Isaac came back to the tasting room with 2 other guests he was with and took over the tasting. He was amazing! Knowledgeable and informative without being snobby or pretentious. He shared about the wine while we tasted and made the information interesting. The tasting fee is $ 20 and we tasted 7 wines and you get a glass to take with you! Additional we bought three bottles of their wine. We had a great time at Fallbrook wines, all the staff we interacted with were wonderful, I definitely plan to come back!

Can’t get enough of the 33 degrees BDX. I have found it decently priced at North County Wine Company and Costco in San Marcos, a well as the Costco in Carlsbad. We purchased both the BDX and the Chardonnay to have at our wedding a few months back, and these wines received quite a bit of praise from our guests. I have also tried the reserve Syrah and Cab, which I found in a local Wine Bar in Oceanside, both are also very good. Only reason why I give 4 stars instead of 5 is cause my husband and I would love to go wine tasting, but unfortunately unless you have at least 15 people to go, you can’t taste on weekends. Which blows. We go to Temecula at least one Saturday a month for tasting and to pick up wines from some clubs. I would certainly add this place to our route if they would let us come by. If FW is reading this, maybe you could do a monthly event. Every second Saturday is open wine tasting from 1 – 3 or whatever… I promise to leave with a few bottles each time ;)

Perhaps the best thing I can share to articulate how much we love this winery is to tell you that we live in San Francisco, 30 minutes from Napa/Sonoma valleys, and we get SO excited each time our wine club shipment from Fallbrook Winery arrives! Honestly, if you’ve never been a member of a wine club before, this is a great one to join. Membership comes with a 20% discount on wine purchases(online, at the winery, and by phone), complementary tastings at the vineyard(if we lived in SD this is where we’d take all of our out of town guests!) and quarterly shipments of their awesome wines. We received our fall shipment last week and opened the 2008 Reserve Merlot tonight… it is PHENOMENAL! I went to their website to see how much it would be to purchase more… expecting it to be about $ 30 – 40 based on how good it was. Nope, it’s $ 16! This is SUCH a value. It’s a wine that you could give as a holiday gift to friends/family/clients and its perceived value would be twice as much. Thanks to everyone at Fallbrook Winery for being great hosts and dedicated winemakers. We love your wines and look forward to each shipment!

I am so glad I recently found this place! Fallbrook Winery is an exquisite, family-owned winery just about 30 miles away from San Diego. Before, I thought that the nearest wineries were all the way in Temecula. The tasting rooms in Temecula aren’t really my thing. At Fallbrook Winery, you’ll find beautiful grounds, knowledgeable pourers(we had Vernon!), and of course, some fantastic wines. The sauvignon blanc is a nice refreshing white. Ted, the proprietor, really worked with us and went out of his way so that we’d be able to come by for a tasting and to take some photographs late on a Friday afternoon. We got lost on our way there(note, do NOT use google maps!) but Vernon stayed late for us and was a great host. If you like great wine and are more into an intimate tasting experience where you really get to learn about the winemaking process, contact them for an appointment. You won’t regret it!

Although Fallbrook is not presently known for its plethora of wineries, a stop at the Fallbrook Winery is well-worth your time, especially if you’re in the neighborhood of Temecula. Rather than the usual crowded belly-to-the bar-tastings, this place affords you some privacy, and a chance to revel in the winemaking process. Make a reservation ahead of time, bring a picnic lunch, and also learn the nuances of pruning and planting from proprietor, Ted Gourvitz. The Fallbrook wines we sampled are also quite impressive. Several of them are award-winners, including our favored Syrah Special Selection(2004), a silver medal winner in the San Diego National Wine Competition. Bargain hunters will delight in the fact that several of their wines are also sold at Costco.
