Don’t worry, they got the kids covered. The kids Mac & cheese is home made & comes in the look/consistency of a piece of pie. Amazing… Wish I would have ordered it for myself. Love in a pie.

Such great food. Honestly, you can’t find tastier food in Eureka. It’s not cheap or quick, so go prepared to spend money and an evening or lunch time. But, if you’re ready to go big or go home, you won’t be disappointed. Fish specials are always great. The Thai Chicken is sour and spicy and delicious on a moderately warm day. If you’re in for lunch, I always recommend the veggie nut burger. It’s the most incredible vegetarian burger out there. I prefer it to any other hamburger in Eureka and I’m decidedly not vegetarian. The dessert is super good, with a new flavors of cobbler and crème brûlée all the time. If you don’t want to spend big, then just show up for coffee and dessert some evening. Well worth it.

A lot of people recommended Kates so a group of us in town on biz gave it a try. It was a Friday, moderately busy, no waiting for a party of 6. Waitress took our order, delivered us our drinks, and was not seen for approx 45 mins. We waived down bussers, the hostess, other waiters just to refill our water. When the food got to our table it was cold. I had ordered the salmon which had been under the warmer so long it had dried and crusted over. We had been there so long at this point I didn’t bother sending back. It was not good. Now the worst part. Since we had a party of 6 an auto 18% tip was added to the bill! Even though the service was terrible! Sorry Kate. bad service, bad kitchen timing, bad management. I really wanted to like it. Hope you can do better.

A fun and lovely place! Definitely«dining with a twist». I had the French dip sandwich with house French fries and red wine. I decided to try the sweet potato fritters which are to die for! So delicious and unique! I also got a Kate’s Hurricane which tasted like I was drinking straight tequila. It defintely wasn’t the quickest service but I never really mind that. So if you’re looking for a quick bite this isn’t really the place. But it is an amazing place with elegant presentations and a lovely artistic atmosphere. I will definitely be going back!

I remember when Hurricane Kate’s first opened… I think I was in 8th grade… and for awhile it was THE place to go. I’ve been 3 times since February and each time had TERRIBLE service. The last time I went was on a Saturday, but the restaurant was fairly empty. We waited an hour for our food. The waitress never came by to refill our water, let us know that it was going to be a long wait or even bring us extra bread. The owner finally came by and refilled our water and apologized for the wait. I had to ask for more bread though, which I think she should’ve done without my asking. Our food was okay. I got the Hurricane Pizza and it was pretty greasy. One of my friends got the steak medium-rare and it was definitely way too rare– they probably shouldn’t be serving things that rare. Doubt I’ll be back again before the year is up. The plus is that their drink menu is incredibly extensive and fun. Their drinks are also strong, so I feel I get what I pay for in that regard.

Three stars for unique and flavorful food. The service was new and appeared scared everytime she came to the table but she got everything to us on time. We sat by a window which was lacking in cleanliness due to dust and dead flies on windowsill. Details are important when charging $ 18 dollars a meal in such a depressed area of town. The design is cool and they appear to be trying hard. but things like getting to the restroom is like walking through their storage area and then back through it. All of that type of stuff should be hidden from the view of customers. Again the food was excellent but the restaurant as a whole needs some TLC.

Came here on a Saturday night and ordered a variety of dishes — mango salad, bacon wrapped scallops and chicken liver, goat cheese pizza, pork cutlet and chocolate dessert. Food was good, but nothing especially delicious. Service was average. I think our waitress was a little young and she was unintentionally rude.

We rolled into Eureka tonight with out a recommendation from anyone on dinner and scouted this place out from Unilocal reviews. When we drove up, I was in love! Great logo, great curb appeal, great menu posted on the outside windown and it only gets better once you get inside. We were greeted and seated instantly. Had wonderful service and a veritable party in my mouth from beginning to end. The Lumpia which is a spring roll is great, and the sauce made me want to marry the chef. The Georgia Peanut Soup creamy with a lot of texture and the macadamia Spearfish was so flavorful with the roasted asperagas with relish and sauces that I wanted everyone in the room to have a bite! I will come to this place anytime I“m in this neck of the woods again.

Our party had mixed green salads with house balsamic viniagrette, Hurricane pizza and a fried oyster po-boy with french fries and pickled cucumbers. The balsamic dressing was fresh and delicious and the salad was generously portioned and very fresh. The cucumber salad was crisp and sweet; my Dad wanted more! The po-boy had three large, sweet oysters and was delicious, and the fries were nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Hurricane pizza was a good concept but just missed the mark in it’s execution. Flavor was outstanding, but the crust was slightly under-done, making the middle part of the pie almost mushy; the edges lacked crispness. I suspect their pizza oven isn’t hot enough. The hostess seated us immediately and our waitress was courteous and mostly attentive, although my small water glass went empty for some time. Our order arrived quickly and was complete and correct. A deeply vaulted ceiling and hard floors make for punishing acoustics in Kate’s, so don’t expect a romantic setting. Though the dining room was less than half full, the combination of chefs shouting to waitresses when orders were up and a customer with a fog-horn laugh made for a noisy lunch. A full dining room would be worse. Thankfully they don’t try to drown it out with bad music. On the whole, Hurricane Kate’s is worth a try. One note: apart from the oyster po-boy and a fish plate, this is not a seafood restaurant.

OK, seriously, WHOAREYOUPEOPLE that are giving HK’s 4&5 stars? Are you heavy smokers who have no taste buds left??? Or people who can’t even boil water and think this is a gourmet eatery? Either way, YOUAREWRONG! WRONG! WRONG! I haven’t been to HK’s for over 2 years… And you know what… I didn’t miss a thing AND the crappy menu selection is still CRAPPY! And expensive to boot! Due to the lack of imagination when creating the menu, I was unable to order an entrée… So I decided that I should just order a salad and a small appetizer. I ordered the Duck, Pear & Chevre Salad. It was very bland… I make better salads at home for 4 people AND ½ the price! For $ 12 you’d think you’d get more then 4(tiny) slices of duck!!! The dressing was nothing to write home about either. For my appetizer selection, I ordered the Baja Tacos… I don’t know what I was thinking… They should have called these the BlahBlah tacos… And I thought the salad was small… HA! I got 3 tacos with this order and they all fit on a saucer sized plate(seriously!)…The shrimp should have been called SCRIMPS as they were so small, you could barely see them!!! It came with a small dish of tasteless pico de gallo and 3 sprigs of cilantro… that’s it! All for $ 11…I get better tacos at the mall!!! My husband ordered a pizza… It came out and looked pretty tasty… He liked it. However, it was on an 8 inch plate and it was $ 15. I wouldn’t have considered anything gourmet about it(other then the price). We ordered dessert(mixed berry cobbler) and it wasn’t tasty at all. The berries weren’t even sweet. It tasted like they got frozen berry bags from Costco and just threw them under a pre-made crust… AND…All for $ 7. Between 2 people, who basically had appetizer and drinks, it came to $ 66. I could have gotten 2 filet mignon special cuts from Ferndale Meat Market, made a gourmet salad and gourmet sides, bought a nice bottle of wine, stayed at home and could have eaten in my PJ’s for less then $ 66. The service was slow… We went on a Thursday night. Although it was busy, the wait staff took FOREVER to even get us the bread samples and water!!! We arrived at 6:45PM and left at 9:30PM!!! Even though there was visiting going on, we spent most of the time waiting on our server to take the order(s) and for the food to actually be served! The best part of my meal was the company of good friends and my hubby! I would not recommend this place to anyone — not even for lunch. The menu is so screwy and miss matched that you can’t even enjoy the selection process… It’s like«OK, I’m here… I guess I have to order something»…Save your money and go to the Brick & Fire Bistro!!! It’s cheaper, has a more exciting menu and the service is great!

Eek! Methinks not. The interior is spacious and feels like home. I like the long tables. But on busy nights, the service seems to be provided by only two waiters for the entire restaurant. The waiters are and want to be helpful, but there are not enough of them. Sometimes the wait staff seem to talk to each other near the bar area, while many tables need to be waited. We actually wanted to leave since it took so long to order food. So we only ordered a squash & tomato soup — two soups split in a bowl. The tomato portion was very, very tart, and the squash very, very sweet. One might say that the two would balance each other in flavor, but this was not the case. The two flavors clashed. I suspect that the tomato soup was made from actual(un-canned) but un-ripe tomatoes. The breads and three complimentary spreads were interesting-looking and interesting-sounding(garlic cloves, salmon cream cheese, plain butter), but bland. A few friends have complained about the food, which means the bad impressions of Hurricane Kate’s will stay strong.

I’ve been here twice in the last 4 years and I keep getting fooled that it is a good place to eat. The food is over priced for the taste, quantity, and selection. There are not many options to choose from and while the food is fresh and healthy — it’s not tasty. It’s always crowded and service is a little slow. Drinks are good, but not strong and overpriced.

So yesterday was a 500 mile day. Up to Eureka and back in one day is better than being beaten by a sack filled with oranges, but not by much. To have the chance to consider life, solve the world’s problems and invent hella useful stuff during the hour where there’s no reception and the CDs are done — I’ve got to say that this is always a sweet treat. Bruises from oranges notwithstanding. I used to have an office in the square, half a block from Hurricane Kate’s. But I left just before Kate’s came on the scene and happened upon them on a visit later. Yesterday for a belated birthday with the best company ever I visited. As with my prior three or four times HK didn’t disappoint. Twas lunch, so I went cocktail free(one day I’ll say«was breakfast …» but not just yet), had the soup of the«moment» which was a combination of many things and meat(pardon? I wasn’t listening when she described it) and criminey I almost wished it was raining for the warming — it was that good. And a phat Cuban sammy. My mouth waters as I type and I just ate lunch, that should tell you something. The calzone is fab as well, only this time I only had bites. And, and — they brought me a scrumptious fudge cake with ice cream drizzled with angels and a candle to celebrate my trip around the sun. Kate’s would be five stars anywhere, as far as I’m concerned. And don’t let the others fool ya, Eureka isn’t that far off the beaten track. It’s worth a trip as part of your North Coast explore, or as a destination in its own right. So there.

One of the best pizzas I’ve every eaten.(Note: I am not a New Yorker and I do not(heresy!) like Ray’s pizza — too greasy.) The ropa vieja was also delicious, although a tad salty. Plus they have Frick carignane wine on their wine list, one of my personal favorites.(If you every get to Geyserville, go visit Frick Winery.) Huge portions — you can easily split a dish. The live jazz band in the early evening was nice as a background. The restaurant is very large and has a diverse clientele, ranging from couples to families, to groups on a night out. Interesting décor.

Submitting this review comparing to food in general, not just Eureka restaurants. Accepting supbar dining because it’s ‘better than other stuff in the area’ only keeps it subpar, and doesn’t help them improve. This ‘local favorite’ has creative offerings from as much local produce and goods as they can. It’s clear that they really attempt to pull off a classy but comfortable diner that represents the area. Unfortuantely, they succeed. The atmosphere is horrible. The pretention lays very heavy in the air as both staff and patrons try to live a lifestyle instead of just relaxing and letting it be natural. The food I was servered showed it as well. Being undercooked I asked for it to be cooked again and the server(and chef visible from the dining room) gave me the typical tortured artist look and acted as if I ‘just didn’t understand’. Sorry Hurricane Kate’s…we’ve got enough of that in Eureka as it is.

Fun fresh menu selection, specially delicious salads to choose from. I have only diner here twice but my impression of the service was good. I felt like it was slightly over priced. My main complaint with Hurricane Kate’s is the horrible acoustics. It’s very loud here at diner hour and hard to carry on a conversation with the people sitting at your own table. It might be better for lunch perhaps.

Hurricane Kate’s is our go-to restaurant in Old Town Eureka. We like the slightly arty atmosphere, the excellent service(pleasant waiters who check on you without hovering or chatting, bus staff who are on the job), and tasty, creative dishes. We always order the«Holy War» as an appetizer — Archangels(bacon-wrapped scallops with a ginger-scallion dipping sauce and Devils on Horseback(bacon-wrapped chicken liver and fig with jalapeño marmalade). Delicious, plus I just like saying«We’d like a Holy War, please»! Their pizzas are very good also — good crust and creative toppings. Favorites are the Hurricane Pizza — pesto, chevre, sun-dried tomato, parmesan, romano and mozzarella cheeses, pine nuts, and caramelized leeks; and the Purple Haze Duck Pizza — applewood-smoked duck breast, peach & chili marmalade, Cypress Grove Purple Haze chevre, mozzarella, onion and chives. There’s a good selection of wine and beer, including Eel River organic ales, and a decent full bar(including Knob Creek bourbon). The dining area is spacious without seeming cold, with good lighting and painted in warm colors, with pleasant, colorful works by local artists adorning the walls. There are also several seats at the bar, ideal for solo diners. Not quite the best restaurant in Eureka, though definitely top 3 in my book(the others being Brick and Fire Bistro and Restaurant 301 at the Carter House). And although it’s not the most expensive it’s not the cheapest, either: a recent meal — 4 small plates, two entrée-size pizzas, a glass of wine, a couple of beers, one dessert and one after-dinner drink — set us back about a hundred and twenty bucks before tip, including tax. But we’ve found Hurricane Kate’s to provide consistently good experiences and value for money. Highly recommended.

Want to go back. Very curious to try this place again. However, I must preface this review with the fact that I ate here almost a year ago… but the fact that I still remembered it fondly tonight after only having eaten there once says something, yes? I went here on a double mother-daughter date, a respite from the rainy weather outside. Drinks were also quite good. Had one of the house specialty cocktails and it was really well done. While sipping drinks, we doodled with crayons on the table. I like when you’re allowed to do this as an adult. :D We all got different things– I got the mushroom pasta. Holy bajeeze I hope they still have this, for your sake. It was so amazing. Creamy, garlicy sauce but not so much that it overpowered the wild mushrooms in the sauce over perfectly al dente pasta. I think it might’ve had winter squash in it as well? Salad was also good. My mom got«The Holy War» — what an excellent name for a dish. How can you go wrong with bacon wrapped goodness(except maybe if you’re Jewish?). My friend’s mom swears by the pizza here. She’s a die hard vegetarian. You know, for a town up in the boonies, this place and a few others in Eureka really make me have faith that it can be a haven for great, moderately priced food with good ambiance. There’s plenty of fusion cuisine down here in the Bay Area, but somehow this is a bit different twist on that(almost now cliché in some places) theme. Perhaps it’s that they use lots of local ingredients that are pretty unique. Recommended.

Excellent, well prepared food, very good service. We were quite surprised to find such a good restaurant in Eureka. I’m surprised that I don’ t feel the need to qualify with«good, for Eureka.» We were there on a week night, it was quiet, more staff than customers. We had a pizza and salad, both were very good. Prices were good for the quality.

IF… and I stress the word«IF», I return to Eureka, I will definitely come back here. The drive was long and beautiful, but it was long… hehe, however, I didn’t drive, so I am not sure why I am complaining. Back to Hurricane Kate’s! The interior was nice, but not out of this world unique. The service was good, but not stand out. My bf, his mother, and I decided to come here for a nice lunch to help us kick off our day of sightseeing, and it was great! I tried the special fish of the day, Pecan crusted Mahi Mahi on top of mushroom risotto and a granny smith salad. This was incredibly tasty and the fish was cooked perfectly, tender and lightly flaky. My bf ordered the tri tip beef dip, which he said was excellent, and his mother, the margarita chicken sandwich with the sweet potato fritters. The fritters were not my cup of tea, but they were fluffy and had a pumpkin pie or ginger snap type flavor, maybe also a tinge of curry powder. I could see how others may really like them though. They also had some great salad dressings. We all really enjoyed the jalapeño ranch to dip our fries in.
