If I’ve only been here once or twice, and ordered two or three dishes total, I would definitely give them a five star. However, as a student who had nothing to do and lived really close by, I’ve been here at least 10 times, and tried hard to not order the same food every time. I found most of their dishes taste the same and full of MSG. Don’t get me wrong. I love MSGLOL, just not really enjoy the similar flavor for most dishes.

Absolutely superb, authentic Chinese food. As I looked around the room, I didn’t see anything that didn’t look absolutely fantastic. Our party of six tried a variety of items and none of them disappointed. The hot and sour soup is so rich in flavor– it was unlike any I have ever had. The seaweed salad was the perfect level of flavor and mild spiciness. Everyone loved the Kung pao chicken and my stir fried pork with bamboo shoots was a delightful non-spicy entrée. Everything came with huge servings and I felt like the prices were very reasonable. Note: NOSPLITCHECK — only one credit card allowed per table. Also note: most entrees do not come with rice but you can buy a big cup of it for $ 0.88.

I rarely give negative reviews. but these folks just got it wrong. We had a beef and peanut dry pot… when asked by 2 different wait staff how it was after my date and I hardly made a dent in it, I told them both that it was incredibly over salted and unenjoyable… the right thing to do would have been to have a manager come over or offer to make something else for us… no such offer was made. They were a bit terse with me upon check-in. The icing on the cake was when they wouldn’t split the bill for a party of 2 down the middle on 2 credit cards. This may pass for excellent in Eugene but definitely not anywhere else with a good food scene.

The stars here are for the food. I had the Kung Pao Chicken, which was fantastic, but their are other factors that prospective diners should take into account. The good: as I said, the Kung Pao Chicken was excellent, ingredients high quality, and well, but not overly, spiced. The portion was old-school-large in size. The service was good. The bad: one menu for lunch and dinner with dinner prices. Entrees do not come with either soup or rice, which are extra. I know that the fortune cookie is a western contrivance, but still was a bit disappointed. Not solo diner friendly. This is mainly due to the traditional style where portions are larger for sharing and meat is meat and veggie is veggie and that is it. so, no combination items. Also, you have to spend at least $ 18 to use your credit card(bonus for teh waiter mentioning this up front). Takeaway: This is a great place for two or more people to share plates of good food in a casual atmosphere as long as you realize you will spend some money on the experience. The food quality is worth the price, but be clear about exactly what you will be getting for it.

I wouldn’t expect to see a really good Schezwan in Eugene. I was driving up from the Oregon Caves towards Portland. I wanted to grab some Asian food and found this place. The pictures on Unilocal looked great. It’s located on a strip mall with some other restaurants. I ordered the sour and salty potato, mapo tofu, chicken with chili, and the pickled wood ears. The food was exactly what I’ve had in the SGV(San Gabriel Valley) area in LA. It tasted exactly the same except for the potato. It was actually better than what I could find in LA. It was oily but it was also a little sour from the vinegar, which made it taste more delicious and have you craving more. The other dishes were good in flavor and had some spicy to it. If you are coming here, expect to get some spicy food and not your typical chinese fast food. They are Schezwan! I even saw locals here(Chinese) eating here, which made it more legit. I saw a few tables order the spicy hotpot mix.

The best Chinese food I’ve found in Eugene. I’m a San Francisco native and this is one area of the local cuisine I’ve been avoiding as it has always been such a let a down. A few trusted recommendations lead me to try this place. Amazing. Everything was so good. We had the king pao chicken, twice cook pork, pot stickers, and hot and sour soup. I recommend all those things.

You owe this to yourself if you appreciate authentic Chinese cuisine. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is casual, the food is wonderful. Do not come here expecting to order chicken named after a deceased military officer. Come here looking to learn and explore the menu, come here to find new favorites, and revisit them when you come back. Run, don’t walk. GETDOWNHERE!

Finally! Good, authentic Chinese food in Eugene! The only down side is that it’s often hard to be seated within a reasonable time, it’s totally worth the wait. Huge menu with lots of variety and exotic dishes. The servers are always super friendly. They use a lot of red chilies and chili powder, so if you’re sensitive to spice beware, but otherwise be prepared to enjoy some delicious Chinese food!

We were searching for a good Chinese restaurant and ended up at Kung Fu Bistro and so happy that we did. We ordered the seaweed salad, beef with green onion, and noodles. Everything here had a really authentic flavor and was so delicious. My favorite dish was the Beef with onion. The beef was tender and there were so many grilled onions it was excellent! The portions, prices, and service are on point and I can’t wait to go back to try more.

Best Szechuan food! I’ve had lots of good Szechuan in NYC… Such as Mission Chinese, or Xi’an Famous Food. I think Kung Fu is just as great, or better. Keep up the delicious and authentic dishes!

This is some of the best Chinese food I have had anywhere in the world, including China. It delights me to read the negative reviews posted by some of our fellow townspeople. Ignorance. I guess that’s the flaw in Unilocal, sometimes you have to sort through the reviews made by people who don’t get it. Like the tourist who arrives in a new place demanding that everything be the same as back home. Anyway, this really is a jewel in Eugene’s restaurant crown and you should go and enjoy it and come to the table expecting to try something that might be new to your palate!

Kung fu Bistro is probably my favorite Chinese place of all time and I’ve lived in San Francisco with all the fancy Chinese restaurants but this place is beyond perfection! Love all the noodle dishes; hot and sour soup is just wow and my favorite main course is deep fried fish with cumin. The staff are super nice and friendly! Very polite and fast. If I can have dinner here every night, I would.

Last visit was my last. Unfortunately, I had an awful experience as visiting the place. When 1st time visiting the spot during lunchtime, we ordered 5 dishes in total; they all were tasty but extremely greasy. MSG stuff involved. What shocked me most was right at the moment when we were gonna check out. A waitress came over and asked if we four could pay the bill by one card. We preferred splitting the bill, and therefore, rejected. She then asked tips in a strange way, saying” do you wanna leave some tips? they may add to ur bills and u don’t need to do so later”. We said ok since we for sure would tip, just based on the satisfaction we received. Honestly, the service there was good, and deserved being tipped. When she came back with 4 pieces of receipts, each receipt was showing 18% had been manually added to the original bill! I just wanted to ask the waitress who empowered you to decide how much customers would tip you! Also, no one told us if a party of 4 would charge a mandatory service fee. The 18% tip was definitely not mandatory. We did have our standard tip amount in mind, but felt totally deceived when the waitress handed us a checkbook with the credit card receipt and waited us to sign. The second time was even more disgusting. Something interesting happened on our bill, again. A dry pot priced $ 20 or so on the menu was almost 50 bucks on our bill. Every side available to add in the pot was ordered but counted TWICE and summed up to our bill. However, the menu or the waiter did not mention what price each side would be at all. When we questioned the bill, they apologized and attempted to explain for their fault… Remember to precise any unclear stuff on the menu and read through receipts carefully if you still want to go there.

Kung Fu Bistro was practically the only restaurant in Eugene open on Thanksgiving, and boy am I glad! They were hustling to accommodate a steady stream of customers and managing extremely well. The food was amazing, the staff were very nice and service was quick. We’re from San Francisco and have sampled a lot of Chinese food there, so KFB was a pleasant surprise. We look forward to another fabulous meal here next time we’re in town.

I love this place. A very welcome addition to the Eugene dining scene. Set up: the place is pretty small, don’t be surprised to have to wait outside for a table to open up. They have seats outside and a heat lamp so it’s pretty comfortable(in the summer at least). You will also be seated close to your neighbor which I consider to be a bonus because you can check out the food they are ordering. Food: the menu is large. This is the type of place I’m tempted to try everything on the menu because it is all so different to what I usually eat. I’ve tried: Deep fried chicken cube with chili pepper– comes with small pieces of breaded and deep fried chicken filled with chili peppers. I enjoyed the heat with this but felt like there was too much breading. Would not order again. Kung Pao Shrimp: kind of a sweeter sauce, again breaded and deep fried shrimp. Lots of vegetables, I enjoyed the onions and peppers. The peanuts were plentiful and extra delicious. Hot and Sour Vermicelli with pork added– I loved this. So many flavors. Very oily so have to take the noodles out of the oil. Deep fried fish with cumin– nice and spicy. Again has too much breading similar to the chicken cube above. I loved the flavors and the greens it came on top of. Huge portion, plenty of fish for 3 people. Fish flavored eggplant: so much depth of flavor. «fish flavored» doesn’t actually mean it has any fish in it. Is is just the sauce that is commonly used for fish. I tasted garlic, ginger, vinegar and it was overall sweet(maybe too sweet?). I would definitely get this again. Boiled beef– the one dish I actively disliked. The beef texture was slimy, kind of slurped down my throat. I’m happy I tried this(picked it because multiple other tables were eating it) but would not get again. This comes in a big pot of oil/water that you leave behind, also with cabbage. Hot spicy food like this demands some cold beer to go with it. They also serve hot tea that disappointingly comes in tea bags instead of a pot but they are excellent at refilling the hot water frequently. Service is fantastic. go for a different experience! be bold and try something new. I love this place for the adventure alone.

I am from the San Francisco Bay Area, and I’ve had my fair share of really, really good Chinese food. So far, Fung Fu Bistro is the only Chinese food place I’ve found worth going back to in Eugene. It’s Sichuan style Chinese food, characterized by liberal use of chili peppers, chili oil, and garlic. And Kung Fu Bistro does not let down in the spicy department. Their food is full of flavor, spicy, salty — a combination of complex flavors all blended together. I really liked their stir fried noodles(much like chow mein) and potstickers. Now, I’ve been here serveral times, and each time I learn a little something for the next visit(and I always do want to come back for more!): TIP #1: Ask for your dishes to be medium spicy or just a little spicy, because the wait staff may not ask you how you spicy you like your food. TIP #2: Don’t order scallops or shrimp here — they were bland and didn’t taste like much of anything, much less seafood. TIP #3: Go with friends, to try a bunch of their dishes — family style. TIP #4: Be aware of their $ 18 minumum on cards, and they don’t split checks. Happy Lunar New Year! Celebrate at Kung Fu Bistro. It’s the place to get some good Sichuan Chinese food in Eugene.

Four Stars for lunch and 5 Stars for service! It was fabulous and we will be back, even if I have to make a trip just for the Hot and Sour Soup! Had to go 250 miles for it but FINALLY found good Hot and Sour Soup. And our waiter, Ivan, was so helpful in suggesting different ingredients from different menu items in order to put them together to create the dish I wanted. Yummy

Seems ok enough… nothing knock your socks off about it. I’ve been twice and ordered about 8 dishes served family style. Only two were worth ordering again: The green beans and the garlic bok choy. The crispy fried rice was too sweet(what should I expect when it looks like rice krispy treats?) and the other dishes were mainly filler of peppers. The dumplings come store bought and frozen. They were spotted removing them from the bag. Caught ya! Just nothing special here, folks. Fancy silverware with the curly black handle(world market if you like it!).

How have I not written a review on Unilocal about Kung Fu Bistro? WTH? Let me start with the evolution of Chinese food here in Eugene… first, we’ve all had that cardboard sweet and sour chicken slathered with a congealed like substance and overly salted and msg’d fried rice… not to say that every Chinese place in Eugene is like that, but the opportunity to have authentic Chinese cuisine was pretty limited. Chinese restaurants in general try to cater to the general public and the general public like general tso chicken with fried rice and a fortune cookie. With the emergence of KFB, 221BCE, and Tasty Chongqing, Eugene has finally gotten the opportunity to try real Chinese food. Okay so now the food, it’s all about the cumin fried fish. Omg, this lightly cornmeal fried white fish is deliciously fried with cumin, spices and served with chili peppers and slightly singed green onions. SO good. The stone pot eggplant, full of that umami flavor(even though there’s no protein) perfectly balanced and not overly soy saucy with garlic and perfectly paired with a bowl of white rice. The pork and pickled veggies may sound simple and rustic, but it’s anything but that. This dish abounds with flavor, and spice. It is NOT spicy at all, you get the flavor of salty pork, and the slight crunch of pickled veggies, and then that one flavor that throws you off… chinese style pickled cucumber. Oh it is heavenly. The first time I had it, I almost ignored everything else we ordered and shoveled that in spoonful after spoonful. Good food is always a journey, and sometimes you have to adjust your needs just for the experience. And if they are closed at weird hours, so be it. If they have an minimum $ 18 dollar charge for carry out, then I think I can easily find $ 18 dollars worth of food to order… because in the end, it’s worth it. Expensive is all relative here in the good ‘ol Eug, but hey at least there’s KFB.
